The problem with the OP image of course is that likely no one person would say both of those things.

It shouldn't be an absolute last resort (it should obviously be higher priority than a lifetime of repression) but it can be good to try other ways of dealing with the problem first. Figuring out how severe it is, whether you even need to transition, eliminating other possible causes like mental illness and trauma, having therapy, gender role adjustments, part time crossdressing, or partial transition, for instance. These could all be potential things to try. Ultimately it should come down to what is the best for the person and will improve their life the most long term.
