Why is everything in the gay community a stereotype of some sort? I feel like if you're not a fat bear, a skinny twink, or a muscle jock people act like you don't exist.

People are always complaining about either gay men becoming "too feminine" or that they're becoming caricatures with a facade of masculinity without the "real" manliness to back it up. Whatever the fuck that means.

I'm not really feminine but I'm not overtly masculine either. I'm not too muscular but not skinny either. Is there room for average joes in the gay community or do I need to pick a fetishized extreme in order for someone to notice me?
