I don't think anyone should come down on her, but last year when the author of Hot Blood and their friend put up the first ten pages of their comic about voice actors in Japan, it was completely ripped to shreds by SJW types and cancelled. It wasn't even bad, just some non Japanese people making a comic set in Japan. I was just thinking its funny/lucky that Mad's gotten away with being a white person working on a Japanese set comic for as long as she has.

I wish I remembered what it was called so I could dig it up, there were some articles about it.

Honestly what Mads does right that the other comic didn't is avoid anime influence in her drawing style. The other comic would use anime visual tropes while writing a story set in japan about the anime industry. That starts to give the impression that the authors thought japan = anime. Mads gives her characters relatively believable professions, so even if the setting isn't very good, they feel relatively realistic in comparison to animeland nippon.

Why is TOY regarded so harshly as 'baseless cuddle porn'?
Throughout the whole thing, developments have been regular, without ever stopping too long on any source of drama.
And even when there was one (Herbert, Alfonse hijinks, telling Dad the truth), it was actually treated as a proper arc that caused development for the characters.

A constant complaint towards romance comics is that they inevitably degenerate into forced drama because otherwise they'd just be fluff, yet when TOY does it right it's treated like shit

Maybe it's a result of reading it in periodic updates, but TOYs drama feels really forced to me. Drama is never built up in a way that gets the audience invested in the characters, and storylines are constantly left unresolved. What happened to Hebert? What was the real story behind all the Alfonse stuff? And yet we're in the middle of a cutesy scene without any resolution? Its basically a handbook on how NOT to do slow burn drama.

Are we reading the same comic? Every time drama has come up, it either fizzles out to nothing or is completely dropped. The only character that seems to have grown at all is the old dad, just because he's more willing to let Liam have his space now. Liam has always been a spoiled brat, and Milo is always the smiling nice guy.

It's not a terrible comic, but its not a very good one, either. Things happen, but very little results from it. It's just bland cuddle porn. Even the actual porn for TOY is dull. It's not really that cute, its not sexy, its not funny and its really not dramatic. The art isn't even dynamic of fun to look at. Characters make the exact same expression as each other all the time.

Again, not terrible, not great. Its just a boring romance going through the motions because it's the creator's jobs.

Lovelyss and Lovesyck are two seperate sci fi comics in the same universe but are very different stories. I forget which title is which, but the one with the club was about a intersex guy (looks female, has male pecs, has a vagina) who only likes men, and a female space soldier who herself is straight (although they have a threesome with a male dinosaur in the end).

The other one is a sort of weird space opera but majority of those characters suck cock. And the blue chick making out with the pink chick aren't lesbians. Blue chick is a sex robot who will fuck anyone and anything (preferably with dick) and the pink chick is probably either straight or bi.

Would not recommend for gays or lesbians looking for something specific to their orientation, but Rupert Murdoch is very good at writing fun NSFW stories so I do recommend his work for everyone.
