Mech is an immediate choice, but I feel like I would get to use it once and then it would get stolen by government, and I would end up with a big, mech shaped whole in my heart

Body is a better choice. My body is all scratched up and worn out which makes the choice obvious not considering anything else. The mech is cool but I wouldn't have maintenance for it, probably break it, run out of power, get it confiscated by DARPA.
