Being shy is one of those things that gets better with time and if you have a social circle it gets easier to start looking for relationships and stuff. You don't need a bunch of friends in your life to have all that, a handful of close friends is honestly ideal.

A year of fulltime really isn't that long, especially when there's a lot of shyness and introversion to break through. During my first year I apparently had pretty severe difficulties socialising.
