The point was that after being told that you're a boy your entire life, you develop an irrational attachment to it because you've been told you were a boy and that people won't accept you if you try to be anything else.
While there's this big "no labels" movement going on, your actions, mannerisms and appearance fit quite neatly under one very distinct term: girl. -That- is where it shouldn't matter.
