Couldn't reply to the brazilfag that wanted to contact me before the thread died, if you're still here, sorry!
I should update soon.
Thanks for remaking the thread.
I added a few things, and changed the shoes to better reflect the ones I actually wear. They're still kind of "bleh", so feel free to make fun of me again.

You don't want to be an idiot, mate. If you wanted to be an idiot, you wouldn't have studied literature or philosophy. Don't mistake what I'm saying for flattery because it isn't.
Look around at this thread. Look at the mundanity and banality of the lives of these posters. They want to be happy, and they want to be numb. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that - every society needs its foundation of people who seek happiness and security. They are political animals, like ants and bees.
However, a man needs to have chaos in him to birth a dancing star. You have chaos in you. Will you sieze it and gain a full understanding of your context, so that you might mould it into something better? Will you strive to educate others and further the evolution of man?
Or, will you perish like a dog?
The study of philosophy and your own betterment won't make you happy. It isn't supposed to. Happiness is for the same people who turn to faith and God so that they don't have regrets on their deathbeds. The same people who can't bear to have someone challenge their beliefs.
I expect that everyone ITT who reads this will be upset because they'll think I've insulted their intelligence. However, I know that you'll understand what I'm saying here. Happiness is for the marble. YOU are a sculptor.

"women are shallow"?
this grand admiration for a now-obscure depression-flick in 2008?
his entry-level romantic classical taste? i do have to admit i appreciate the addition of liszt this iteration.
i see nothing more than an 18 year old introvert, deprived of peers, clinging to intellectualism. it's not "they don't understand me"-core, it's just the result of a fundamental lack of socialization which has spawned this thought-fueled deprecative disposition, as he socializes with intellectualists instead, further estranging himself.
i know it because it reminds me too much of myself a year ago. no, he is not a sculptor. as time progresses he will assault his depression, and the depressive art from which it derives will wane in turn.

I can play 60% of the Chopin - V. Ashkenazy discography very well (the rest varies from good to so-so to kicks my ass, mostly polonaises and mazurkas desu)
I could list off 50 obscure composers to show off or whatever but I find in art music that popular composers are usually the best.
Also I have a personal connection to Kondrashin's Shost 5 recording
>assumes Liszt means more than Chopin in music taste maturity
wew lad
I wouldn't call SNY an obscure 2008 depression flick, it's a serious piece of art. Full with dense symbolism and complex themes.
It's one of the few films that's managed to be so.
>>5800157
I can appreciate that.
Perhaps it was a bit quick-written but it is true that stupid people can be genuinely and deeply satisfied by things like a cute girl coupled with a job and so on.
What I'm trying to say is that years and years of dedicated philosophical text absorption hasn't given me some sort of enlightened clarity. I have a clearer way of thinking and various webs of understanding I can refer to now but ultimately, I feel it would've been just as satisfying a life to be blissfully unaware of my own stupidity.
>>5802483
>What I'm trying to say is that years and years of dedicated philosophical text absorption hasn't given me some sort of enlightened clarity.
You're 18, mate. This is a path that takes a lifetime of study, and it doesn't get easier.
I'll give you the advice that helped me the most when I was 18. Reconsider your approach to philosophy. What you're trying to do is find "absolute truth" and enlighten yourself as a consequence.
You'll never find it. Stop looking for it.
Philosophy is all about context and reaction. In this sense, philosophy is not about the system, but rather about the philosopher. What's important about these philosophers is NOT their systems. These systems were only "true" to them, a "series of mistakes" to lesser minds (like scholars), and "one big mistake" to other philosophers.
What IS important about these philosophers is that they truly lived; how they attuned to their context. The same note has a different timbre across different instruments because of the medium. In the same sense, Aristotle and Hobbes attuned themselves to react to the context wherein they lived, yet came to different conclusions.
Ideally, when you've reached this level, reading a philosophical text is like having a dialogue with the philosopher himself. It's exhilarating. (Yet, the only philosopher with whom I can really claim to do this is Hobbes, and only after 1 and a half years of dedicated study of only Hobbes.)
Your approach to philosophy needs to answer the question of how YOU might attune yourself to react THEIR context. How could you attune yourself to see the world in the same way Heraclitus did?
What is the purpose of this? It gives you many different goggles with which you can look at the world - like a radio that can pick up many different channels - and the capacity to react to your own context. It really is a lifelong project. It won't make you happy, and it won't enlighten you, but it's a hell of a lot of fun.
>>5803582

Stop worshiping yourself and disabuse yourself of notions of your own intelligence.

Protip: I'm telling you this because once you concede and step off your self-glorifying platform, you'll in turn open yourself up to much more intelligence.

I just don't have any down time for obscure things. My taste in music is entirely things I grew up listening to. The only movies I watch are big blockbusters that everyone sees. Like I said before, I don't watch much TV, so I don't know what's good. I only read for school assignments. And I also don't have the time to be a hipster about the video games I play. I like open-worlds and RPG's, and I see no correlation between people's preference in movies, games, or music and their level of intelligence.

yeah no it's okay, I don't really understand either, hence the not being able to work it out
I thought I was male for three years (but didn't take anything, just dressed/pronouns) then decided that it was having a negative impact on my life and i didn't really care anymore (i was super depressed) so i went back to "being" a girl. But now I feel kinda gross for having my parts and don't want him to actually see them/touch them. Then I also feel kinda...gay when I'm with guys... because i still kind of feel like a guy but that's something else completely lol. I just want to be dominant but he doesn't want to be submissive (as in, he doesn't like dildos etc.), which I understand completely. I just need to get over my issues i think.
