I like in Austin, TX. I specify the city because it's pretty weird compared to other metros in this half of the country. The dyke scene is more like a few scattered scenes that are afraid to touch each other, it's a little bit sad. It makes the dating pool even smaller than it normally is. Homophobia is better than the rest of the South, but there's also some folks that backlash against that super hard and are violently hateful. The best thing about where I live is the nightlife. Musicians and artists are so beloved, that there's always a good show somewhere and more people coming in all the time. There's even social programs in place just for the musicians. It's pretty great. The worst thing about where I live is that everything is so fucking far apart, you're lucky if it only takes half an hour between stops. Transportation is crippled.

In Merika you can select any language other than English for your high school credits. I studied French, German, Spanish, and ASL all unsuccessfully from elementary school through my college years (although I got the farthest with ASL because I'm pretty good with my hands and have done a lot of acting, so the grammar made sense to me.) My recommendation is to go to some of the more open congregations like the Unitarian Universalists and similar.

One of the alternative churches in the close by city has separate non religious support groups for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and poly persons. They also bring in people from the local and state LGBT centers to talk to their youth groups a few times a year. The church also hosts a bunch of other support groups.
