I myself went by Audrey for a while, but decided that seemed too stereotypical trans-ish. Not sure if I was correct or not, bu tit isn't a particularly common name so it still stood out enough to move me to another name.

I ended up feminizing my own birth name to Jessica, which is one of my generation's (b. 1992) most common female name for a few years running. So it fits. Nobody turns their head. I'm not Lilian St. James, transvestite queen of the west side, I'm Jessica, the modest and demure transperson.

Your name can make a big difference on first impressions.

If there's a femenine version of your birth name, I'd advise just using that. The whole "let's make an ENTIRELY new name and end up sounding like a goddamn hon" thing is often used in an effort to create an entirely new persona/being through your transition, whereas retaining at least part of your name indicates a healthier "hey, I'm just gonna be what I always was" kind of transition.
