>That feel when you're Catholic and homosexual, and actually believe in the religion and other paranormal phenomena, but still get hurt that people only see you as a piece of filth
>That feel when they just see the (great) love you had for your ex-partner as simply "lust", but you know it was much more than that, but no matter how you explain it to them, they will always say it was nothing but "lust"

It actually hurts a lot.

Nobody can take your love away, pal.
Do you think going Lutheran might help?

I don't think so. See, I actually believe in the faith (probably the result of always having believed - to this day - in the supernatural/paranormal). I know it sounds silly, but it's the way it is.

I just wish that little line from Corinthians didn't exist. It's just a tiny little line, just one out of an entire compilation that took thousands of years to put together - but the impact it has.

that's your problem with the bible? just that one line? and not the fuckton of other horrible shit that's written in it? or the fact that it's obviously bullshit? believing in the supernatural doesn't mean you shouldn't use your brain at all...

Raised in a Catholic family in a Catholic private school system in a very dominantly Catholic region of the country.
The school quietly fired a middle-school choir teacher for being a closet homosexual. Wasn't even aware until coming across his blog a few years after I was out of high school.
None of the students were open or even suspected, but there was still a whole lot of antigay bullying, no one even really thought twice about it.
Took a long, long time to come to terms. Became really bitter toward the church in the meantime over a lot of things. Stopped going altogether for about six years. Went to confession and was referred to a website which advocated conversion therapy.

I'm now in an Episcopal church but I'd like to stop being so bitter.toward the Catholic church as my family's still very heavily Catholic. I try as much as I can, and pray for it too, but still harbor some resentment. It's such a minor issue in the grand scheme, we're all brothers and sisters in Christ after all.
>>
>>5368474
Don't be bitter, just be apathetic. It's the most blissful existence you can achieve.

OP if you can't quit your Catholicism habit, then just do what my lesbro catholic (I wish she was my actual) aunty does with her Catholicism.
For the first feel find better people to be around at your parish, at a different parish, apostates, or outside the faith, that don't think you're filth.

Here's some mental gymnastics for the second feel about corinthians
-read the bible using the higher criticism method, and determine for yourself that the Pauline epistles were forged.
-Remind yourself you're a Christian not a Paulian.
-Then take solace in the latest pew studies on church attendance/acceptance of LGBT folks, and realize that the biggest church on the planet is going to accept you if they want to survive in any meaningful form. It doesn't matter what lay catholics think now, because sooner or later they're going to told to think something else more positive about you.
-do what a protestant friend of mine did and convince yourself that Paul was a raging closet case.

>>5368565
Probably because anonymity lets people say the things they'd never say publicly. That, and nobody has to see my ugly face on 4chan.
>>
>>5370066
>some that have occurred into modern times and cannot be explained
So an argument from ignorance?
>>
>>5370075
Jesus never actually said anything against homosexuality though
>>
>>5370254
In Mark 7:21, Jesus says, “For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,” etc. The word translated “sexual immorality” (porneiai) here is in the plural in Greek, illustrating what the lexicons tell us, that it porneia is a generic word for sex outside the bounds of natural marriage, whatever form it may take. Paul, for instance, uses porneia to condemn an incestuous relationship in 1 Corinthians 5:1.
So when Jesus condemned “sexual immorality,” and “porneia” is the word used in the biblical text, he was condemning every form of sex outside marriage, including that of the homosexual variety.
Further, and just as importantly, Jesus himself also spoke directly against homosexuality through his apostles.

Paul was the most direct, unambiguous and explicit in condemning homosexual behavior, in places such as Romans 1:26-27 (“dishonorable, contrary to nature, shameless”), 1 Corinthians 6:9 (a sin that will keep one out of the kingdom of God, just like cheating in business), and 1 Timothy 1:10 (behavior that is the proper subject of the law, just like murder and the slave trade).

But, you will argue, these are the words of Paul, not Christ. This, however, begs the question. Where did Paul get this teaching? Where did he get his message? Who taught him the things he preserved in writing in his epistles?

He tells us quite directly in Galatians 1:11-12. “For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Jesus rejected homosexuality in words that came from his own lips and with words he spoke through Paul, his chosen ambassador.

QED
>>
>>5370287
Or, Paul was just a popular cult leader that claimed Christ was speaking through him. He wouldn't have been the last one either.
>>
>>5370457
>Or, Paul was just a popular cult leader that claimed Christ was speaking through him.
Maybe. But that would imply almost half of the christian faith is built on a lie.
That ain't gonna happen.
And even if it was it doesn't refute that jesus did in fact speak about homosexual behavior.
>>
>>5370066
>some that have occurred into modern times and cannot be explained
Yet.
>>
>>5368565
What makes you think you aren't one of the ugly faggots here? xDDD
>>
>>5370475
>Maybe. But that would imply almost half of the christian faith is built on a lie.
>That ain't gonna happen.

Sorry for pic related anon, I couldn't help it.

For what it's worth though I think you're correct, especially if people believe that Christ spoke through apostles. But if someone were to take the "Jesus never spoke specifically on homosexuality himself" position they can still do so by leaning on pedantry around the word sexual immorality, then dismissing and discrediting Paul.

Anywho good posts. They gave me some new ideas to think about on the topic.

"Religious" doesn't always mean God fearing, judgmental bigot(that is what Pharisees do). Christianity at its best is following the positive messages of Christ and doing your best to create a better world for yourself and others. Not being perfect is also part of Christianity.

OR - Maybe Jesus Christ was an educated, Zealot Jew who more or less took on the role of the Messiah in a time and place rife with religious and political tension and turmoil, and developed a following who, years after his death, turned him into the son of god as we know him today - despite him being just an outspoken man in the right time at the right place for a "messiah" to be born.

Call me fucking crazy, but this seems like the most likely scenario.

You're ignoring the fact that there's been multiple miraculous and supernatural occurrences after Christ, in both the Catholic and Orthodox churches (I can't really speak for Protestants, since I'm not acquainted with them). Apparitions, stigmata, control over nature, levitation, bi-location, incorruptibility, healings... There's been many miracles that were witnessed by masses of people. For example, the Fatima sun miracle, or the apparitions in Zeitun, Cairo; prophecies that became true, as in Fatima, again, and Kibeho; or literal transubstantiation, as in the miracle of Lanciano (which was studied by biologists and concluded that it was human flesh). etc/
>>
>>5372830
/shrug/ I'm not Christian anon. I just like talking with Christians, and other theists, about their beliefs.
Anywho you might as well go full mythicist if you're into challenging Christ claims. Read some Richard Carrier.

>>5372878
>the Fatima sun miracle
Can be explained with group think. Someone sees the son shift a little as they blink back the sun blinding from their eyes and they see a little wobble of movement, they shout out oh the sun moved a little, somebody else in the crows sees the same sun blindness effect
Plus if the sun really did "dance" around the Portugal sky it would have been visible all across that hemisphere while causing catastrophic consequences.

Haven't heard of the other miracles you mentioned though. I'll give them a gander some other time.

I don't know how much proof you want, though I know nothing could ever convince you due to your own bias, considering hundreds of thousand of people - including anti-clericals - all witnessed the sun move erratically and change shapes and colors.
>>
>>5373016
Well a couple things would get me to reconsider my position/satisfy my skepticism
-if the miraculous effects weren't all explainable by eyestrain caused from staring at a bright light source like the sun for too long.
-if there were people unaware of the scheduled miracle that saw the same thing. A sort of double blind study.
>>
>>5373031
>if there were people unaware of the scheduled miracle that saw the same thing. A sort of double blind study.

That did happen. People in villages as far away as 18km from Fatima reported seeing the sun "dance" and change colors, along with the materialization of rose petals from out of nowhere.

Read wikipedia, then go on to read some of the reports made at the time.
>>
>>5373043
Interesting, for how long was the miracle publicized before hand?
I ask because if it was public knowledge long enough for people to travel to other villages around Fatima they wouldn't necessarily be unaware of the scheduled miracle, and would have their own biased pattern seeking eyes trained upon the sun.

I guess all of my questions about what people saw are moot too, since I'm ignoring the unreliable nature of witness testimony for the sake of discussion

Repeating someone else's lies, and that's it, that's all you've done, is about as useful as shitting your pants.

I wanna see someone ask what can be done to stop it. I wanna see someone ask for advice. I wanna see someone bat around ideas about how to stop it. I don't want to see some bitch, bitch, and then stop talking. There's nothing worse then someone who's calling card is crying.
