>U.S. Army recruiters have abruptly canceled enlistment contracts for hundreds of foreign-born military recruits since last week, upending their lives and potentially exposing many to deportation, according to several affected recruits and a retired Army officer and former Pentagon official familiar with their situation.

>Many of these enlistees have waited years to join a troubled immigration recruitment program designed to attract highly skilled immigrants into the service in exchange for fast-track citizenship.

>Now recruits and experts say that recruiters are shedding their contracts to free themselves from an onerous enlistment process, which includes extensive background investigations, to focus on individuals who can more quickly enlist and thus satisfy strict recruitment targets.

What the hell is going on?

So where's the story? The military doesn't let in criminals, and illegal immigration is a criminal offense. Did you want a special exemption for one certain type of crime because muh feels? Too fucking bad.

It's not like we don't have the occasional American foreign legion thread here anyway.
>>
>>35179233
> people willing to die for me
I'm pretty sure that's a figure of speech and not why they enlist though. If you want a Foreign Legion, set one up instead of letting anyone join regardless of their immigration status, that's just decadent af imo.
>>
>>35179233
You do and this is why the whole 'some immigrants face deportation" story makes no sense.

>What the fuck do I care about people willing to die for me's status?
To die for me? I'm not in Afghanistan, nor are any of my interests. I'm also not in Syria, Korea, Japan, Germany, or any of the other places where the government keeps its soldiers. It's none of my business who runs Helmand Province, and I don't think it's a particularly good use of my tax dollars to make the world safe for Hyundai, Samsung, and POSCO to drive General Motors, RCA, and National Steel into bankruptcy. In short, I'm not the government, and I don't see where the government's hired guns amount to "people willing to die for me".

So... no.
>>
>>35179454
Not all illegal immigrants entered the country illegally. In fact most don't IIRC.

Noninterventionism != isolationism. Someone once said about Ron Paul that calling him an isolationist is like calling your neighbor a hermit because he doesn't come on your property and break your windows. Pretty much. I'm perfectly willing to pay fair market prices for the things I want from people in other countries - I don't need to put my boot on their neck in some damn fool crusade to make Afghanistan run like Connecticut with sand. Even Bin Laden said that precisely nobody over in that part of the world is going to *not* sell America oil - the 1973 embargo was a massive fail and, as he put it, "it's not like we're going to drink it".

So please GTFO with the "muh troops" bullshit.

Far too often those that joined the Army to become naturalized citizens bring in their birth country's leftist communist ideologies and openly speak poorly of our President Donald J. Trump. They didn't join with a sense of duty or anything higher than a paycheck and often show little regard to our nation's history. They should get their citizenship first. I personally think that every US citizen between 18-30 should serve at least 3 years of active military service. The volunteer service is no longer adequate and to be honest we should not be having people from other countries that are not US citizens serving in our military. There are a lot of benefits to mandatory service if a person just thinks with an open mind.

look up US immigration laws.

they were originally designed to keep the scandinavians, the germans, the irish, the italians, and the chinese out (in roughly that historical order).
>>
>>35184749
But they overstayed their visa, hence breaking the fucking law. Immigration visas are there to limit immigration for the sole reason of keeping the lower classes relatively free of competition so they actually have an opportunity of moving up on the social ladder instead of competing with a foreign workforce, which usually are payed less and generally are more attractive to most business owners for that sole reason, and to get some of the brightest individuals of a country yet not taking so many that brain drain sets in. It's literally a net benefit to both sides of the equation since these countries get to keep the people that can become their entrepreneur class and their low wage work. Racist as they may be, they prevented creating a dramatic shift in the amount of individuals that are entering the workforce and the demand for jobs on both sides and are an unironic net benefit for both countries in question.

if you couldn't exploit illegal immigration status as a lever for underpaying workers, you wouldn't have to worry about unfairly competing. and if your country has a better infrastructure that encourages entrepreneurship over another country's, you'll have a net gain as job creators self-import themselves.

tl;dr immigration makes America greater.

>tl;dr immigration makes America greater.

Of course, you do realize that the working class is adversely affected by the influx of low-wage labor that comes into the country and taking in large sums of highly-skilled labor from one country causes brain-drain in a country, making it less economically viable, right? There's a responsible way to accept immigrants into this country is sparingly, so we don't fuck ourselves over and other countries over.
>>
>>35184906
*There's a responsible way to accept immigrants into this country and that is sparingly
>>
>>35184906
If the working class doesn't want to compete with low-wage immigrants, try reading books and getting an actual skill to make yourself more valuable than slave labor? You either want free market capitalism or you want Uncle Sam to restrict the markets so you get your GIBS (in the form of a job you wouldn't have in a freer market).
>>
>>35184921
>If the working class doesn't want to compete with low-wage immigrants, try reading books and getting an actual skill to make yourself more valuable than slave labor?
Or we could just not bring in hordes of low-skilled immigrant labor here. Not everyone has to go to college to get $10,000-$50,000 in debt in order to specialize in something, in most cases something probably useless. If that were the case, then who the fuck would be farming for us, not to mention the a fact that the Rustbelt's manufacturing is probably the biggest factor in America becoming a superpower in the first place. Low wage labor has always been a thing in the US since it's inception. Just because it involves very little skill doesn't mean it's useless. You sound like a typical upper-middle class liberal cunt saying shit like that. And have you considered that there's a possibility that if we restricted the gov't weren't influenced by large corporations and the like (who are largely the ones pushing for shit like this) and have them actually do what it's meant to do like protect worker's and consumer's alike and maybe put tarriffs on the odd state here and there , then maybe we might not exactly have a free market but what we'll have is pretty damn close.

You're going to great lengths to defend what are, essentially, government handouts. In this case, it's not a direct transfer payment, but rather supporting wage standards that wouldn't exist in a free market where labor and capital could flow over boarders as necessary to meet the demands of any specific industry.

Look, you're right you don't have to go to college and invest in yourself. But if you choose not to don't be a little baby and beg for handouts like Tyrone because ''MUH MEXICANS!'' You're no different than the bum who sips his SSID check away on some street corner. Who would farm for us? I just told you. Cheap, available, immigrant labor. Why? They would do it for less then I wouldn't have to spend as much as I do on groceries.

No, fuck you and your socialists bullshit. The U.S. doesn't need any more industry regulations. First you want GIBS now you want restrict growth via legislation? Get out, commie. Get the fuck out.

I want you to point out where I said anything remotely socialist in a clear and coherent way. Also, wages go down for the most part when large sums of immigrant labor is put into the market. So yeah, your groceries would be cheaper, but market pressures would force you to earn less on average, and you'd be spending a higher ratio of your money on the groceries than if American labor had been used to make those groceries. You just don't fucking understand economics, from looking at your posts.

But it's understood from US immigration laws, that an individual that has immigrated from another country without any sort of documentation or invalid documentation is breaking the law. It's not a matter using a mean label so much as it's literally calling them what they are: their legal status is that they're breaking US immigration laws and hence are here illegally and they're immigrants from another counrty. >>
>>35185578
>Given that calling them illegal immigrants makes them sound like they came here illegally when quite a few came here legally and therefore aren't illegally immigrating
It's not how it sounds to people. It's what is the fucking case in reality. They broke US immigration laws by not reporting in and renewing their visas, which is required by US immigration law and they're immigrants. Thus, as per US immigration laws, they've had they're legal status revoked (maybe post facto, but it's still revoked), so they're illegal immigrants. I don't fucking know how hard it is to follow a simple syllogism. It's not even Godel's Incompleteness Proof, it's a simple syllogism.
>>
>>35185571
Saying that "illegal immigrant" can only mean "an immigrant who has generally in some sense broken US immigration law" is a worthless statement. It can pretty clearly be reasonably interpreted to mean "immigrant who came here illegally", and frequently is. That interpretation is false. A term which has such a massive ambiguity in it is unfit for purpose. Calling them undocumented immigrants or undocumented aliens is more accurate and more specific.
If they never immigrated illegally, then definitionally they can't be illegal immigrants.
Saying that you can put "illegal" and "immigrant" together like >>35185571

No they are. You just want to argue semantics and about how people might perceive things. A visa is basically a legal waiver that signals that the person carrying it is a non-citizen that has is recognized as a legal resident by any other party within the country. They can't work most blue collar jobs, and wages are depressed because both unemployment was high and people are averse to negotiating better conditions for their employment.

If we don't know who and where they are, how can you say that with any certainty?

Yeah, but you won't get sent to court for the actual act of littering itself, just refusing to pay the fine they give you. Also that same logic applies to a speed ticket. Just because there's a civil case rather than a criminal case doesn't mean it's not illegal.

There are plenty of jobs that they can work. Landscaping is a prime example. There are thousands of illegal landiapers in this country because it pays relatively well and under the table. People choose illegal landscapers to save on cost. This hurts American businesses and workers.

And Americans are not "averse" to negotiating for higher wages. They simply have no leverage anymore because they can quickly and easily be replaced with wet back scabs if they even think of collectivizing.

>Durr how can we know if they're illegal if they're undocumented, checkmate

The data is misleading; they charge $7.8b to illegal immigrants as if the people inherently require that much money. Things like ICE and detention centers are caused by the reaction to immigrants, not immigrants proper, and can be scaled independently.

If anything the study says the status quo costs the public money, but it conveniently leaves out the various remedies and their benefits/drawbacks. It also doesn't acknowledge the economic benefit these people bring, which is several billion dollars at least if memory serves.

Second. You mean the ones cashing out on ITIN tax systems, like the one they pay jack shit to so they can circumvent the system and receive some benefits , then use our tax supported hospitals to have children who then get to use ALL of our benefits?

And that's on a federal level, local government is more legally obligated to help and have the stress the federal government doesn't want. Like schooling and healthy eating programs?

Cis.org

"The average household headed by an immigrant (legal or illegal) costs taxpayers $6,234 in federal welfare benefits, which is 41 percent higher than the $4,431 received by the average native household.

The average immigrant household consumes 33 percent more cash welfare, 57 percent more food assistance, and 44 percent more Medicaid dollars than the average native household. Housing costs are about the same for both groups.

At $8,251, households headed by immigrants from Central America and Mexico have the highest welfare costs of any sending region — 86 percent higher than the costs of native households.

Illegal immigrant households cost an average of $5,692 (driven largely by the presence of U.S.-born children), while legal immigrant households cost $6,378.

The greater consumption of welfare dollars by immigrants can be explained in large part by their lower level of education and larger number of children compared to natives. Over 24 percent of immigrant households are headed by a high school dropout, compared to just 8 percent of native households. In addition, 13 percent of immigrant households have three or more children, vs. just 6 percent of native households."

Just saying.

The central reason why conservatives hate illegal immigration is that if they get citizenship (not a matter of if- it WILL happen. I fear that will be the next bid agenda for Democrat party) they will most likely vote Democrat for the benefits.

Reagan, not a Democrat, was the one that actually gave amnesty for millions of illegals, and yet most of them and their children overwhelmingly voted Democrat.

Say bye to your guns.

It's hard to vote for someone who hates you and spits on you. Conservatives would've cracked the black and latino vote years ago if they didn't dedicate a large part of their platform into shitting on those groups. Do you really think gay marriage and transgender rights are plank issues for either group?
