The price of the gun isn't anywhere near the cost to manufacture it. It's fucking dumb. But people keep buying em so they never get cheaper.

and before you call me a poorfag, I'll let you know that I'm not. I'm just not a retard with my money. I'm not gonna buy a meme rifle for 3k when I could get a brand new set of PVS-14's for the same price

Even if you had the perfect rifle that's better than the AR15 in every way for half the price... it can't compete with a $0 AR.

SOCOM always had the option of getting M4s and M16s for "free" from the Army. It was only after the new administration's slashed their budget by 15% that SOCOM broke the contract.

Of course you let your friends buy SCARs. It means that they're cheaper after you tell them it's shit and offer to take it off their hands for a lower price.

$95 for the factory SR-25 magazine, and this is a reduced price. There are still sites listing them at $110.

The only reason people shill their AR10 varaint nowadays is because Magpul made a reliable alternative for cheaper.

https://us.hkwebshop.com/Magazines

How would you like to pay $70 for a 10 round AR magazine or $50+ for pistol mags?

http://store.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Category4_750001_750051_757846_-1_757839_757837_image

It's not like HK is alone for selling $40 magazines. Pistols that don't use Glock or 1911 magazines tend to trend around that $40 mark from the factory.

Oh wait, here's and S&W M&P10 10 round 7.62 mag for less than $40!

I have an AR-10 that shoots .6 MOA so far and I didn't even spend 1800 on the whole rifle. That's with a custom Krieger barrel, too.
>>
>>35176976
What do you have on the barrel besides whats base?
>>
>>35176976
You should go through some sort of rifle course to test durability.

I've always read that AR 10s don't compare to their 15 counterparts in reliability. Is there truth to that still or has technology caught up to the platform and cartridge?

I have several rifles and handguns where mags cost well over $100.
>>
I want to build an AR10, what companies have the best recievers?
>>
>>35177007
I have the Krieger M110 barrel profile, SLR free float handguards, clamp on SLR adjustable gas block, (not really necessary for adjustment but I plan on suppressing later and clamp on will be better for accuracy supposedly.) Surefire 7.62 3/4" thread SR-25 MB, Aero BCG/bolt, Mega upper/lower, Geiselle AR DMR weight trigger, Hogue grip, A2 stock (just swapped it out for a Magpul PRS), and Primary Arms 4-14 ACSS HUD DMR with their basic one piece single point scope mount (guess where the budget ran out?).

I'm planning on getting really nice glass and mount, but I wanted to start off cheap with that so I can decide what features to look for in a nicer scope. It seems I don't quite need one for ideal condition bench shooting. I'm still doing load development. I was doing ladder tests with round robin groups using sets of 3 bullets each .3 grains of powder different from each other and got 3 different .6 MOA groups despite the variability of the loads. It may even have further potential.

Everything that takes any kind of wear/force is beefed up besides the same extractor claw, FCG, and gas system components. The gas system seems like it won't take any extra abuse a standard AR-15 would, the extractor claw, being relatively smaller, could possibly tear rims more easily (just speculating), and FCG pins are probably taking a little extra stress compared to the 15 but then again it was originally designed for the AR-10 anyways so they're likely fine.

The trouble is with things like two different rifle length gas tubes and gas ports (DPMS vs Armalite). I actually had issues with mine until I bought an armalite length rifle gas tube and my short stroking went away. Armalite puts their gas port a little further ahead than DPMS by maybe 2 tenths of an inch which causes a builder to seemingly think they have the right components and a shitty rifle, but really they have wrong components.

>>
>>35177189

Krieger specifically makes their barrels to armalite spec in terms of gas port location and you need a properly lengthened gas tube (any gas block is fine) to have the rifle cycle 100%. I had like 50%+ short stroking. It's kind of a bizarre thing since normally you expect the problem to be more binary, but since it's such a minute detail to miss out on it can cause issues like that.

Most other manufacturers go to DPMS gas port specs to my knowledge, but barrel manufacturers are so quick to try and tell you profile, twist rate, finish but never mention gas port size or other gas port considerations. I've bought a 10.5" barrel from aero for an AR-15 build but the barrel had a gas port of .080" which is huge compared to the crane .070" mk18 spec and the .063" carbine spec. It was so overgassed that I had the extractor slipping off every single case after shooting leaving a round sitting in the chamber (not even stuck I just tilted the rifle up and it would slip out!) I used all the way up to H3 buffer but still too much gas! I had to get an o-ring just so the extractor could hold onto the round. Whenever I buy an american made barrel again I'm going to ask about the gas port since they can't ever seem to just stick to the standard stuff. I advise anyone buying anything other than carbine/16"/20" barrels on AR-15's to do their homework and ask about the gas port before you buy since Aero didn't understand I knew more about diagnosing this issue than their rep does.

I think they may need to be cleaned more often, too. My rifle was slowing down on cycling with powder fouling at least with 4064 IMR.

>>35177071
tl;dr there isn't a problem. It's that you need to source the right parts and be a discerning curator instead of hoping the manufacturers can do anything other than build components to their own specifications. They just build to their blueprints and you need to go a little extra step and find out compatibility.

I still haven't developed a load yet and I still think I have yet to(or I've just begun to) hit copper equilibrium in my bore so I think there even may be a little more performance to squeeze out of it. The current goal is getting to .5 MOA, which I'm inclined to think is possible. When I first started shooting federal gold medal match 175 gr. was giving me as low as .88 MOA or so while my handloads were anywhere from .8 MOA at best to like 1.5-2MOA on high end depending on load. Now my handloads are .6 MOA to 1.5 tops depending on the load. I've got about 250 rounds through it with only one powder type and I don't clean the barrel between shooting to maintain copper equilibrium. There's a lot of factors I've been improving and hope to further refine as well including stuff as minute as proper sandbag employment (you need a really tall one for my gun at least.) This is my first precision rifle and I just got into reloading, so there's a lot for me to learn as well.
