Could 20 m777 howitzers have allowed Germany to win Verdun?
>>35168681
Howitzers aren't very useful without ammunition
>>35168681
Nope, would not have made a dent.
>>35168681
No, but 21 probably would have
>>35168691
infinite ammo
>>35168703
Ok, so who is directing the fires then?
>>35168720
observation balloons
>>35168723
How are the orders being relayed? And how are they going to direct the fires when nobody knows what MGRS is?

The battle went on for 10 months, how long can these howitzers fight before they need to be overhauled?
>>35168740
They'll come up with something.
Considering the competition, wouldn't 20 modern howitzers just compeltely obliterate enemy batteries?

The Germans had 1201 pieces of artillery, most of it super heavy artillery. They alloted 2,000,000 shells for those guns in the first six days. If twenty M777's were added and somehow we're able to fire at a steady 2 rpm for 24hrs for six days they would contribute roughly 345,000 shells to that total. But the guns would likely be garbage within the first day due to the ridiculous tempo of firing. They also would suffer from having low throw weight, the Germans were using 14" and 16" Howitzers and Mortars in their attack. 155mm is pretty cheesy by comparison.

Without accurate fire direction from modern systems a modern artillery piece isn't advanced enough over it's predecessors to be some death beam. Heck if a WWI 360mm Howitzer crew had access to modern fire direction they would be a real terror.

there was so much artillery fire even if the m777 were 100% completely accurate the entire battle it wouldnt even be noticed by the french
