More sanctions on whatever else they could possibly sanction at this point, a strong condemnation from the UN, Trump mouthing how we can push their shit in, and the cycle repeats yet again. So all in all, nothing will really happen.

Most likely nothing, the Japs will probably be pissed off, and the U.S. will most likely run some wargames in response. At that point, I think China would intervene on its own to stop them since it does not want another war and millions of refugees flooding its doorstep.

Japan has a huge impact on modern culture and technology. Realy their problems are two fold.

They've been cucked for 60 years by the U.S. There are still clauses written in to their charter that keep them firmly under the U.S.'s thumb and challenge their national sovereignty.

The second is their aging population. Therefore a different approach was engineered: don't change the culture, just encourage a more "egalitarian" application of its gender roles. It worked, today Japanese women serve as economic providers alongside men. The modern Japanese populace dedicates themselves economically to family units with the same vigor as their parents but with scant opportunities to build romantic connections let alone incentive for anyone to serve roles that are essential to raising productive progeny.

The west is being corrupted by it's tolerance of hedonism. The east is being corrupted by a slight mutation to their macro-familial dedication. I could write a book on this morbidly fascinating contrast.
