What does /k/ think is the ultimate outdoor handgun?
My pick
Ruger GP100 .357 mag 4 inch
>stainless steel version is more rust proof
>built like a tank Ruger, the most durable easily obtainable revolver in production
>Reliable regardless of ammo, from rat shot .38 to 200 grain .357 hard casts and anything in between
>Can be shot accurately at distance with cocking it into single action
The only other handgun I think can compete is a Mark 23 or USP loaded with .45 Super

I like the ruger blackhawk convertible in the same caliber but I think yours is better desu
I just love the fact that hand loading manuals have a "blackhawk only" section

How outdoors are we talking?
My bring it hiking but don't lug around a brick gun is a 3" S&W model 60 pro 5 shot 357 mag. I have buffalo bore 180gr hard casts for it. They hurt a little but I could probably shoot 3 of them before crying like a baby.

Glock 20 long slide with bufflo bore rounds. That's enough firepower to put fear into any skinwalker.

I would vote
1. Model 29
2. 586 Performance Center
3. 586-L Comp
...Smith & Wesson, needless to say
>>35161395
>rust
>easily broken polymer frame
Jk
Its a good option for sure. There is a lot of firepower in that thing

>Outdoor
>Ultimate
Like another anon said, how outdoor are we talking? Are you ultralite backpacking, hunting, being a hermit in the middle of assfuck Mongolia? Taffin has his "perfect packin' pistol" for these situations, but there are like two dozen that he likes for the job. If you have a chance of encountering big game I'd go for .44 magnum class power assuming you can handle it, but if you don't need that kind of power a .357 is mighty fine. If the biggest animal you're likely to encounter is a person then a 9mm is even better, but a .22 will serve the purpose.
If you're looking for versatility I'd go big, you can load it down if you need to. Loading a small gun hot can become a false economy.

S&W Model 460, it's big and shoot big rounds but not retarded big ones.
>>35162364
>X-frame

Heavy is good

Get the 3.5" version

When people advise these as bear guns i have to wonder, with the size and handling characteristics of these guns, why not just get a carbine or a shotgun?
>>35161895
would a .357 be good enough for black bear?
>>35164392
The whole point of a handgun is that you sacrifice power and round count for convenience anyway, so why bother?
