Sup /k/.
I was wondering: why bother with calibers higher than .22?
The .22 LR rounds are still bullets and they are deadly, cheap and go through a lot of things, including 2x4, coconut, ballistics skull, and other materials. Beginners, kids, women, and old people can comfortably shoot the low-recoil .22. So why not carry a .22?
From what I can see most people don't consider it powerful enough, and 22LR rarely feeds reliably.
But what do I know, im a noguns eurofag

Me too, but I'm going to buy my first handgun at some point. I'll either buy a legal 22 or a higher caliber pistol from an alternative source.

Low velocity and low mass make it less likely to reach vitals and provide an effective, immediate kill. Also, rimfire suffers from higher failure to detonate than center-fire, and rimmed cartridges are extremely difficult to reliably doublestack due to rimlock.
yeay, why would anyone NOT carry one of these and ONLY one of these
.22 is all you need, just carry one of these and you'll be okey dokey

Good man, european. I hope you can come to live in America some day.

Sup, rimfire ammunition is less reliable than centerfire ammunition. That being said, a .22 will still kill you dead.
after all a .22 has all the stopping power of a .45 with the recoil of 6mm caseless
>>35154145
No reason not to have this as a backup gun.
I am an HASGUNS Eurofag.
And this anon here >>35154143 nailed it pretty good.
The .22LR is a fantastic cartridge if you take it for what it is; in such a small package you have plenty of power, excellent accuracy and almost no recoil, if you think that it is a 130 year old design using a mere lead bullet.
I do own several .22LRs both rifle and handgun and I want to add that buying quality ammunition (CCI - Winchester - SK - Fiocchi) I very rarely experienced feed issues and fail to fire. CCI in particular, no fail to go pew that I remember.
But back to the point of >>35154143, trust me i NEVER had a fail to fire or fail to feed in 9mm.
So, when critical operation is needed, Centerfire.

Everyone should own a .22lr. It helps with learning to deal with stoppages. It will also help you build up your Kentucky windage skills.
cumulative damage
>>35154071
Because 22 is boring as fuck to shoot.

This

Out of a pistol it gets very poor penetration, it deflects off bone and is more likely to deflect of skulls (obviously not on a square hit but at angles), you're limited to 10 rounds in most pistols because of the rim which intensifies the problem of lacking penetration, and rimfire FTF and fails to cycle more often than centerfire.

Because semi auto rifles that fire 25 rounds 308 Winchester exist. Which 1 to 2 bullets can kill damn near every living thing on this planet. Not to mention what it can do to a human. Even if they're behind "cover". Or I can shoot at a charging 1100 lb. Grizzly bear with an impotent puny rimfire round and be mauled to death for my trouble. I live in a place where this is a legitimate problem and I wouldn't have it any other way.

And death by grizzly isn't quick they start eating your intestines while you're still alive.

rim fire cartridges usually have about 10 duds in a 100 count box. centerfire, never once failed to fire for me. when I point and click, I want a dead bad guy with my bang, not a click with no bang and a live bad guy coming
>>35155066
I can't remember the last time I had a dud .22 cart. Last time I did it was the fault of the rifle because the firing pin was too worn down
