Will an unsuppressed .223 from a 11.5" barrel indoors assrape my ears? How much worse than 16" would it be, and what sort of damage could it cause to my hearing in the short and long term?

What ammo can I use to mitigate that while still retaining fragmentation power?
>>
>>35153824
>11.5" barrel indoors assrape my ears

YES

Store some electronic hearing protection with your gun if you're using a shorty for HD anon.
>>
>>35153832
How bad would 16" hurt?
>>
I forgot to ask: does a shorter AR barrel heat up much faster? I am not able to put on a vertical grip so idk what to do, maybe an angled grip + gloves would mitigate heat
>>
>>35153874
Still bad. Everything is loud indoors. Rifles doubly so.
>>
>>35153824
1-it probably will never be used, don't worry about it too much
2- if it does get used, it'll probably be for two or three shots, don't worry about it too much
3- if you insist on worrying, electronic earmuffs don't cost that much these days.
>>
>>35153874

every gun fired indoors is going to hurt your fucking ears.

>Store some electronic hearing protection with your gun if you're using a shorty for HD anon.

This fucking meme. Like you'll put them on at 4am when dindus are kicking down your door.

Also remember that while you can still hear with them on, you completely lose the ability to echolocate and that can be pretty fucking dangerous in a life or death situation.
>>
>>35153898

A lot less mass, so heats up a lot more... BUT, you basically have 90 rounds before shit gets uncomfortable.

For law enforcement, home defense... anything domestic, short of a zombie apocalypse you'll be fine.

Military guns need to be able to handle sustained firefights, high volume, shitty enviroments...

Civilian home defense gun needs to work for 1-15 shots, in a (relatively) immaculate environment.

Also, just get a silencer if you're so concerned about it. Personally, I used to be OCD as fuck about protecting my hearing, but truth is men in general lose hearing from power tools, concerts, loud bikes and cars... turns out that long term exposure is more likely to cause serious hearing problems than short loud noises like guns.

Shouldn't purposefully expose yourself for no reason, but don't freak out about it either

/thread
>>
>>35155905

The worst worst worst thing ever is a SBR with a muzzle brake. That shit will give you fucking TBI if you shoot it too much. Shakes your fucking brain in your skull.

Between permanent brain damage and eroding a suppressor blast baffle... I value my brain over a suppressor

YES. Reverb is a bitch. Indoors without earpro is always worse than outdoors for this reason. Wtf are you thinking.

>>

We aren't fucking bats anon. A good set of electronic earpro can be put on and powered up in like 2 seconds, and the better ones do a good job of increasing your natural hearing, giving you a distinct advantage and preventing your eardrums from getting raped by 160+ decibels from shooting an AR indoors.
>>
>>35153824
I shot my mini with a 18.5 in barrel using 5.56 next to my friend last week doing a murder line at the end of our range time and he's had tinnitus for the last week, we were out doors.

>we both spent 40 bucks on electric ear pro now
>>
Would one of these help? Supposedly they redirect the sound of the blast forward and away from your head.
>>
>>35157444

I think he meant you can't tell where sounds are coming from.

Or he's a land dolphin.

I have a vertical grip on a 10.5" pistol build, it's 26.5" OAL, therefore it's a "firearm" and not subject to the no front grip restriction on pistols.
If you wanted one on an 11.5", you're within the legal definition.
>>
>>35153824
Put one ear plug in, when your open ear goes totally deaf switch the plug. By than the intruder will also be deaf an you'll have the upper hand.
>>
If you can fuck with a SBR you can fuck with a suppressor. Also, 5.56 sucks out of barrels that abbreviated.
>>
>>35153824
An unsuppressed .223 SBR in the next lane at an outdoor range will assrape your ears even with earpro.
>>
>>35155905
>Shouldn't purposefully expose yourself for no reason, but don't freak out about it either
People have been known to bleed from the ears with ruptured eardrums after indoor shootings. If that doesn't bother you, then sure don't worry about it.

There is no legal definition. You may legally put a vertical foregrip on a pistol.

Both wrong, you can't put a vertical grip on a pistol period, an AR pistol is still a pistol even with a 30" barrel

Show me the law that says >>35159799
>>
>>35161075
Wrong

VFG can only go on 26" OAL or longer

Prepare to have your dogs killed and your ass raped by jamal in prison, or maybe get your money assraped in court if you're lucky

It has to be law or it doesn't mean dick, ATFucksticks can suck it
>>
>>35153824
slightly worse than 16". If you have a brake, 2-3x worse.

Use a suppressor.
>>
>>35155925
>>35157444
you cannot hear where sounds are coming from with electronic earpro, retards. All sounds are reproduced on the internal speakers.

I used to have a 10.5" pistol w/ 3 chamber brake.

It was sort of useless but I used to take it out just to startle the fudds.
>>
>>35155961
Try a .300 magnum in a concrete gunsmithing shop.
>>
>>35153824
You probably won't even feel it after the first shot anyway. I speak from experience. I didn't hear much and my ears were fine after. My mouth was open because I was yelling though.

10/10 experience. Would shoot a home invader again.
>>
>>35161180
By your definition the ATF can literally arrest you for any reason at any time under a completely frivolous interpretation of any firearm law and it would come down to whether or not the judge saw fit to throw out the case
>Spoiler alert, they can
>>
>>35160974
No, you may certainly not.
Angled foregrips are okay though, of course. Fucking ATF.
>>
>>35159799
Take it off before the cops arrive.
>>
>>35161759
just put the damn story in the post instead of making us have to ask you (and someone will every time because I love these)

but yes, do go on anon

best option is get a HD gun that has a supressor on it, you don't compromise your hearing for situational awareness and you don't utterly fuck your ears

Have you faggots fallen for /k/ memes so hard that you seriously think as soon as you touch a vfg to an ar pistol it sets off a fucking homing beacon to the atf? Holy fuck if you're that paranoid take it off as soon as you're done using it. Shit like this is stuff they tack onto an existing case.

They do have a slight bias towards the front though. I wear mine backwards at work because it makes it really easy to detect any horseplay behind you.
>>
>>35158155
Not if you're indoors
Hell, those don't really help outdoors either. They're just so you don't have to subject your range neighbor to the concussive blast of your muzzle brake.
>>
Even a .22 is fucking loud indoors.
