http://www.contactairlandandsea.com/2017/09/12/thales-aims-new-rifle-at-nato/

>Thales says the F90MBR is one of the lightest assault rifles on the market at just 3.25kg, and is fitted with ambidextrous controls to enable fast reaction times and rapid target engagement.
>Features include availability in multiple barrel lengths, fully-ambidextrous forward bolt and magazine release controls, and a ‘drop free’ magazine release function to facilitate even faster magazine changes, regardless of the hand-dominance of the firer.
>F90MBR safely accommodates off-handed shooting techniques through the use of a case deflector, and can be easily modified by the operator without tools to a dedicated left- or right-handed ejecting weapon.
>The weapon’s open architecture incorporates a NATO tri-rail system and magazine compatibility to ensure interoperability with existing NATO weapons.
>'Over-the-beach’ capability means it is well suited for use by amphibious forces. Soldiers can swim with the weapon, and fire immediately after emerging from the water.
>“Both the F90 and F90MBR enable the soldier to reach up to 600m accurately and with ease.
>>
>>35153735
So that means it uses Stanag pattern mags?

Fucking awesome, that was the only thing kinda holding me back from wanting the f90
>>
so its an aug with no forward grip
>>
>>35153735
>that grip
this is why bullpups are mistake
>>
>>35153766
Bullpups are fine. It's just that they're incompatible with the C clamp grip.
>>
>>35153752
Yea, the F90 is patterned off of the Styr AUG but instead of just the barrel getting swapped, you swap the barrel, chamber and upper receiver at once
>>
>>35153752
There's a little rail under his L index finger, so I reckon that's an easy fix.
>>
Well, I can't see those NATO sales happening.

The real question is are they making them ahead of sales, and will the resultant pile of Austeyrs with new furniture be going on the civvy market?

>>35153752
It has a rail there for attaching a forward grip; pic attached shows a (non-MBR) F90 with a folding forward grip. You could also swap the forward grip for a bipod, etc.
>>
>>35153805

If it balances like an original AUG, a forward grip is useless anyways. Putting your hand on the trigger guard works just as well.
>>
>>35153862
You've got no particular use for your dick m8 but I bet you'd still be sad if somebody lopped it off.
>>
when will the bullpup meme die?
>>
>>35153859
Thales is selling a civilian model called the Atrax rifle in the US, but it's based on the slightly earlier version of F90 (I don't think it has a drop-free mag release for example), but still shares most of the same features.

>>35153862
The F90 is balanced even closer to the grip, so ultimately it's up to the user whether they want the forward grip or not - forward grip's generally still better for maintaining vertical accuracy but some people do just fine with the trigger guard grip.
>>
>>35153908
Yeah, but at that price why buy the knockoff. A big unsold pile of them might do something about that.
>>
>>35153928
Not when they are full auto MIL versions that civvies will never see regardless

>>
I don't see this going anywhere. Maybe the Australian army would get some, but the market is too competitive for a modernised AUG to sell. Everyone wants conventional layout HK rifles these days.
>>
>>35153735
>"over the beach capability"
>"soldiers can swim with the weapon"
But you can swim with any weapon short of lmgs
>>
>>35155187
Try reading the entire sentence as a whole.

It means you avoid this
https://youtu.be/vjMH94PuT_I?t=60
if you don't wait for the rifle to drain after swimming with it submerged in water.
>>
>>35155245
No matter what gun it is, you don't swim with the mag in. Insert mag after exiting water. If you passed Combat Water Survival Training, you would know this.
>>
>>35155327
Is this an american military course?

You know, the one that uses M4 derivatives that explode if you do that? Yeah I wonder why
>>
>>35155374
Yeah, USAmry. You would likely be fine with an AK pattern, but bullpups usually have tighter mag wells than m4s, so even worse idea to swim with mag in.

Also, I imagine swimming with a bullpup would be more awkward than swimming with an m4.

I would take my Aug to my apartment complex pool to test this out, but they just closed it for the fall

The f90 is far superior to the aug for the weight difference alone.

hi BAE
>>
>>35156125
plus the ability to pull off the top rail along with the barrel to keep optics zeroed. When the Atrax comes out I'm buying one, I might have to wait now for the NATO version so I have one that takes AR mags.
>>
>>35156154
Nah, Boeing, we have a huge Australian site that does a lot of export variant work, NATO technology integration, space design and launch, Australia is probably Boeing's second most staffed country after America. I know Raytheon and Lockheed have significant sites there as well. Australia is just a big bunch of nothing that no one really looks at too hard.
>>
>>35156279
>we have a huge Australian site
where?

>Australia is just a big bunch of nothing that no one really looks at too hard.
and it has a test range the size of new york state.

Alice Springs by any chance?
>>
>>35156311
http://www.boeing.com.au/boeing-in-australia/subsidiaries/boeing-defence-australia.page

I'm at home so I cant look it up, but at least Brisbane and Williamsburg. I know Boeing Australia gets brought up in a lot of internal notes and has a pretty significant transitional workforce. I almost went down for a couple years. So a defence testing site the size of New York state is pretty significant of a testing range. We're not talking city, which is an island, but state. That's more testing room than America has, honestly.
>>
>>35156371
>That's more testing room than America has, honestly.
let's be honest, if you'll just ask i'm sure that the WA government will let you do spooky shit anywhere you want. it's not like anyone lives there anyway.

The AUG/F88 arent swimmable.
You can drain the barrel but the water gets into the back of the boltgroup and guiderods and either hydraulic locks or tries to jam the back end of the guiderods through the buttplate into your shouldrr.
Thats the official reason SASR and CDTs were able to get M4s instead
>>
>>35153735
they're basically by themselves now. new zealand has switched to lmt so there is even less of a market than there was.
>>
>>35157223
Ok that's interesting. But how exactly are they planning to fix those issues with this new one? I feel like for Australia, despite being an island nation surrounded by islands, the amphibious thing shouldn't be a big deal because they will likely never conduct large scale amphibious operations where grunts need that capability. Not disparaging aussies, just curious.
>>
>>35153908
The ATRAX is supposed to come out this month IIRC, but you can still preorder it from Lithgow.
>>
>>35158278
The Australian Army is actually directly postured to directly amphibious landing operations. It even has an amphibious ready element.
>>
>>35158278
You're completely wrong. If the U.S. goes to war with the norks our prime minister said we will commit troops which indicates we're preparing for large scale amphibious warfare.

Not to mention we have politically unstable island states surrounding us, China is starting to give us threatening looks and fucking ISIS is gaining a foothold right on our doorstep in south east Asia

It's balance is similar to the F88/AUG. I never use the foregrip, even during combat-shooting.

Strange, because we're tought to use it for combat shooting to help reduce recoil during rapid fire...

The NOW-drill? Try both out when you get a chance and see which works best for you. That, or if your rank/instructors are backwards SF-wannabe retards, suffer until you can see what works best for you.

Nah 100% using the trigger guard as opposed to using the vertical grip is a no-go. Think about it, wrapping hand around solid pole vs cradling a tiny pad.

>>35161451
as far as im concerned at least, your standard pattern rifles simply have too much institutional and pop culture momentum.

Same reason we keep telling the metric system to fuck off more or less, everybody preaches about how great it is but the gains just aren't worth the costs right now.
>>
>>35161189
>Fucking rounds eject into mouth when shooting offhand
F88 obviously did, but does the F90 / EF88 still do it with the added case deflector?

>The weapon was designed for Aus army lel
Think he's talking about the specific variant in the OP, which is a further modded F90 (hence the "F90MBR" designation). I don't think the ADF will procure this specific variant though; I know the SGT that originally instructed me on the F88 would have a fit every time a future recruit fails to catch a drop-free mag
>LEAVE THE ENEMY FUCKING NOTHING
>SEE THAT DUD YOU JUST LEFT ON THE GROUND? YOU'VE JUST KILLED YOUR FUTURE SECTION BECAUSE THAT WAS USED IN AN IED
Best & funniest instructor I ever had.
>>
>>35161827
Yeah they still eject into your mouth,
great fun in urban :D

Dropping mags is a thing now because it's faster, ofc in a section attack you'd stow em because you've got time.
