>tens of millions of zombies
Where the fuck did they all come from, anyhow? I read the book and never found any reason or excuse for this shit. What, if you saw a zombie lurching around you're going to go play with the thing amd get infected? Even a Newyorker probably knows better than that.
>>
>>35151339
The global outbreak narrative starts off pretty good and spoopy but it falls to shit really fast. Since it's not a TWD style outbreak where everyone who dies becomes a zombie once the great panic sets in it's like people are lining up to get infected, especially in China.
>>
>>35151339
That's not particularly well explained. The book literally opens with "and a horde of zombies several million strong starts shambling out of NYC towards the gathered might of the entire US military, who are in static positions but somehow only have enough ammo for 30 minutes of sporadic small-arms fire and 1 good arty salvo and can't lock any of their vehicles"
>>
>>35150539
>>35150614
Hell, even at that battle they had land-warrior satellite images, you'd think that more napalm and crap could be dropped onto new york itself and just have collapsing buildings take care of it.
>>
>>35151650
It's even worse with China, where you go from 'a few locals in some backwater village are infected' to 'every second chinaman is a zombie, refugees are pouring out, and the politburo is feeding everyone that's left to them'.
>>
>>35150657
Sort of, in the context of how other countries had to adapt the information they were getting from the US (a survival radio operator makes mention of the fact that their scripts were coming from the Americans and needed the references to civilian-owned guns changed for broadcast elsewhere, among other things).

Crossed is stupid retarded.

Fucking Alan Moore was brought in to unfuck its storyline and say that rampant STDs in ever feral tribes of Crossed and a gradual growing population of human survivialists retook the majority of the planet. Hell even the authors were forced to admit their previous gore orgies were just guro porn and the latter arcs have less and less explicit torture rape.

It is meaningless. They'll print a limited first run, and it will somehow make it into the top sellers for a blip of a moment, and then the second run can have "New York Times Bestseller" or the infamous "From the NYTs Best Selling Author..." which normies don't understand is juking stats.

The same thing happens with video games. A video game may get rather lewk-warm reviews, but if ONE publication (usually a few no-names) name it as a "GOTY" contender, the publisher will then put GAME OF THE YEAR edition out a few months later, despite fairly universal panning of the game.

And yet the zombies were weak enough that a helicopter's rotor could be used to chop them up. If the zombies bodies were weak enought to get sliced up by that or people with katanas foled over 1 million times, then zombie brains would be crushed by melons by artillery overpressure waves strong enough to shatter concrete. Even if you assume that the brain is magically immune, pretty much the entire body would be turned to literal mush, rendering the zombie a non-threat

Max 'The M16 is widely regarded as the worst modern rifle' Brooks.
>>
>>35157396
Yes, of course. The so-called "Fulda Fuckheads" way of battle would have been the perfect way to do battle against a multi million strong horde of zombies.
Except, that's not how it was actually written because Brooks thinks Fulda Gap = one line of defense with lots of "useless" equipment and the artillery and CAS being held back until the first few zombies were within visual range.
>>
>>35157494
B-but you don't need to reload blades!

W-what do y-you mean you'll get tired?

Wh-at do you mean attacking an enemy which can only harm you in hand to hand at hand to hand ranges is a good idea?

What do you mean that blades dull and break???
>>
>>35157658
The fact that Brooks thinks that a late 2000s/early 2010s US military still operated anywhere close to Fulda gap style defense in depth is ridiculous as well. That shit was already gone by the Gulf War and mobile reflexive force of firepower was king even in the early 2000s. Which incidentally, would be amazing against slow shambling hordes who can do nothing against you as long as you don't let yourself get pinned.

The only good part of the film was a four second long scene during the credits rolling where it had the news showing how other countries were dealing with the outbreak. It depicted in all of its tiny glory because it was sized to fit around the massive streams of names rolling by, a horde of zombies charging at Russian or East Euro Farmers (who looked straight out of the fucking dark ages) who leveled pitchforks at the zombies in a makeshift Pike square.

I wish the entire movie had been that rather than what we got.

Spanish Conquistadors vs Mayan Zombies
Shinsengumi vs Zombies in the streets of Kyoto
American Pioneers accidentally set free Indian zombies
Bubonic Plague but delayed-fuse zombies
Mongols conquer the zombie king
Vikings pillage unknown shores when suddenly zombies
Rourke's Drift but in Zombia

Seriously,if you don't want to come with a reason why the well equipped forces can't into zombies but 6 random dickholes can, just choose a setting without those forces. Or make the movie about those forces.

The main infantry killing weapons are the coax machine guns. You can shoot head shots with turret mounted fire control computer aimed MGs all damn day long and you can stuff at around 10,000 rounds internally to a tank and still have full fighting function for tank on tank combat. You could double that or more if you only needed to be able to shoot MG rounds. Stack as many boxes of ammo on top of the turret and you want and conduct a walking speed tank withdraw for hundred of km till you need fuel, or do refueling while moving.

I get what you guys are saying and in any other situation you would be right. But in this case you have an enemy that doesn't feel pain, doesn't care about losing a limb or being destroyed. And there is over a million of them.

They would overrun any static defensive structures by sheer mass alone.

And the soldier talking about his buddy getting nailed by a boobytrap set up by someone long dead is what I think of when people talk about scavenging or looting post-SHTF.

And the SHTF threads here remind me of Crossed when the assholes start talking about how they're going to just kill anyone who has anything they want, and start raping and eating people and shit. Asian-moot should have a red chiller font for those creeps.

There's a lot of pages there that'd make good exploitables, I think

Nothing like soldiers missing legit field training for a deployment, so they remain deployable for a deployment that isn't for another 6 months, but goddamn if the numbers don't brief well in the weekly training meeting.

Real chat, I'm an lt. I will never be a company commander. Every time I've sat in for him in a training meeting or sitrep I brief honestly what our status is. All the other commanders have somehow completed the entire weekly tasking by Wednesday, then get more shit pilled on because they don't have the backbone to tell their rater an honest timeline.

It's not that they're super strong, it's that they perceive pain as pleasure. So as a consequence they don't have the physical and mental limitations that most people have. So when they physically exert themselves, instead of experiencing pain to discourage them from continuing they instead feel pleasure which just further motivates them to exert themselves

> they're just fucking hopped up masochists?

Not exactly, while what that other anon said was true there is more too it, they actively seek out to find fresh humans in order to torture to death as they enjoy doing that also. There are also smart "Crossed" which have some level of concern for their safety and these smart crossed often lead large packs to find fresh humans to torture and kill.

Storytelling is rather shit but I guess it's better than something corny like them finding some cure, mainly it's just all about shock value, hell there is even a part when a crossed beats another person to death with a horse cock.

Some stories can be interesting however, there is a whole comic about the prime minister of the united kingdom being holed up in some building surrounded by the military and police.
>>
>>35171923
They will also rape and murder you, your family and your children, in everyway imaginable. And when they rape your kid and wife's holes and cum in them in front of you, they turn from screaming tortured victims being defiled and choking on cock for their last breath into depraved rape animals into their own right.

And will also weaponize their fluid transmission to spread the taint, along with using cruelty to drive survivors insane and fall into their traps. And they will fuck the bodies regardless if the human survivor is alive or dead, and if they commit suicide or is accidently killed by Crossed getting too excited.

Like if gurochan was an army mixed with ebola. And they kill off and torture rape 99.9% of the population of earth. So imagine if literally billions of women, children, and even men aka everyone all got murdered or mutated after getting mutilated and fucked in every single hole imagineable, and died at the hands of possessed loved ones who were also raped and turned into monsters by the insane virus.

Or if they were lucky, they would get to avoid living with the mental image of their daughters heads being decapitated and used as a fleshlight by killing themselves. But unfortunately their bodies would still be necrophilically raped and cannibalized too, only they wouldn't be able to feel it.

Shits the very definition of edgy, which is why in the latter arcs they actually stopped showing most of the rape orgies because even the writers knew it was just basically western gore porn, and wanted to focus on character building or storyline with smart crossed. And the human survivors eventually manage to rebound after about a 100 years of guerilla warfare and push the crossed back along with STDs killing a shitload of crossed too, until smart crossed tribes retreat and work on different strategies to launch their resurgence and take over human settlements again.

>tl;dr its fucking horrible when you really think about it and the scale

>>
>>35172241
Nope they eventually die en masse and the couple million human survivors get serbian as fuck and fight back once disease and crossed infighting decimate their enemies. At one point they take back the cities and launch pogroms.

Degeneracy punishes the degenerates, although smart crossed like Salt (a serial killer/rapist who creates his own tribe and thrives) form bands that become societies in their own right who can wait before "analling" their victims and build actual armies along with infiltrators with burned faces or brainwashed uninfected humans to attack the human settlements too.

They fast forwarded the series about 100years when the humans stabalized and the smart cross emerge to launch their offensives. The current arc I think is about revealing some of the secrets of the smart crossed tribes which are not as uniformally evil as we think.

There turns out to be fractures within the smart crossed tribes depending on their different strategies and beliefs, and it turns out a good chunk of the captured humans from occupied cities were actually recruited to fight ANOTHER secretive Crossed army buried under Greenbrier Hotel. Doesn't work, once the survivor coalition punches through the collaborator human camp and get turned by the Sister's tribe via bioweapons.

>>35172239

>Talking tonnage which is way more vague because with actual counts you've been proven wrong

the point Max Brooks tries to make zombies hard to kill with is that there's thousands of ways to kill humans but only one way to kill zombies
Could you use HE ordinances against zombies? yes but the effective range would be much much smaller
they don't burn, they don't bleed out, they don't get injured, they don't have internal organ failure

an explosion has either
>put a piece of shrapnel through their skull
>be so close that the shock wave physically destroys the brain, not just would cause an aneurysm or burst a blood vessel, it has to disrupt the neural pathways
>burn the zombie to the point that it immolates the brain

yes ordinances would set them on fire, or take off most of their body or could kill a normal man, but the rules that the zombies operate by limit the usability of explosives considerably

>>
>>35172502
Its not about killing the zombies.

Its about mincing their muscle tissues and turning them into paste, or cutting their fibres with the shrapnel formed from the bomb itself.

That's the silly thing about Max Brooks claim, he doesn't understand the complicated effects on tissue that sheer explosive and shrapnel effects have. It doesn't matter if the zombie is still "alive" and has a head attached to maybe one arm and 2 fingers, its combat ineffective.

And tonnage matters because it means we can EVAPORATE the entire biomass of a given area and pulverize it into NOTHING, because we have literally deforested and cratered entire countries before.

Bodies are not tougher than forests and concrete and stone cities, or armored formations. It doesn't matter what zombie magic keeps them alive, if it doesn't protect them from katanas weirded by otakus or .22lr. Because then it really won't stop far more dangerous weapons.

>>35172571
This is why brad pitt urged them to make the zombies fast, because when they filmed it in real life, they realized that tactically slow zombies were completely fucked and could never outmaneuver or outsmart dedicated human armies used to fighting long conflicts via maneuver and retreat, which would easily whittle away any horde with ease.

Helicopter gunners alone would destroy ungodly amounts of slow shifting zombies, the same way they already are used to kill dug in insurgents and tens of thousands of hogs every year.

>>35172808
So is that the best you've got?

You have to admit civilization works a whole hell of a lot better than just running around doing whatever the fuck you want. If it didn't, we'd all still be in the woods rolling in shit.

We're social animals, people will form tribes and those tribes will be more effective than loners. And civilization, which is essentially tribes+, ended up working because of morality. If you want to accomplish really anything beyond a hunter gatherer existence you need teamwork, and for teamwork you need trust. It's what everything is built on, and it's what morality fosters.

You're ultimately dependent on these people that you want so desperately to kill and take shit from for everything that you can't pull out of the corpses of wildlife you may or may not be capable of even killing on your own, or make out of flora with your own two hands and decidedly limited skillset.

And you're going to find that, while you may be able to get away with murdering other solo looters here and there, a group of people isn't nearly that easy to fuck over. They will do it better than you, and you will ultimately get wrecked.

If I was going to be scared of anyone, I would be scared of predatory gangs - at least those ones have the brains to engage in teamwork and things like racketeering, rather than murdering the very source of the things they need because it fulfills their sick fantasy.

When we pulled the outside road wheel we were able to pull out an almost perfect loop of smashed together cable off. Got three of them out and left the rest of the cable for maintenance later because it wasn't hurting anything.

Rock Island Arsenal produced 13 million 20mm Oerlikon rounds from 1942 to 1945 on top of the 1.5 million 1000lb bombs it produced. It was the smallest military arsenal the US has ever had.

Lake City Army Ammunition Plant produced an estimated 1.2 billion rounds of ammunition from its inception in 1941 through the cessation of hostilities in WW2 on 2 September 1945.

In 2007 Lake City produced 1.7 billion rounds of ammunition by itself.

Or more conservatively any group of 3+ people will easily kill you in a firefight and even if you win, you're playing against the odds with every round expended in your direction with no ability to treat a gunshot wound. And any settlement will hang you old west style like a horse thief.

>if there are a thousand places like that and they all produce a stockpile nobody touches then maybe after a year you would have a trillion rounds of ammo
>I don't think you people understand just how fucking insane that number is

There are hundreds of places that DO produce that kinds of ammunition. Literally loads of countries have ammunition factories and lots of them too, including the united states. Remember that Lake City is NOT the only ammunition plant in the us.

Also you do realize that just one us ton of ammunition equals like 70000 rounds of 5.56 or 34000 rounds of 7.62 nato right?

And when you have literal tens of millions of tons of that stuff just in US government hands, that adds up to hundreds of billions of rounds easy. And gun shops and civilian stockpiles can easily multiply that by several times more.

Because if you honestly think most civilians only buy what they shoot, pawn shops would literally never have shitloads of ratty old ammo and military surplus wouldn't even exist.
