Whatever you call it, it does it's job very well.
>>
>>35147921
Agreed. If you use it like a tank, for all intents and purposes, it's a tank to you. Some nations used 90 mm armed IFVs as ersatz tanks. The problem is people today conflate the MBT with the concept of "tank" in general. I mean, look at the naval classifications. See, a WWI destroyer would be charitably called a patrol boat today, while modern day German frigate would be called a battleship or cruiser in WWI.
>>
>>35148730
Germans did not use Stugs as tanks.
>>
>>35147843
lol at people who think "superior" German equipment was what made them so good in dubya dubya 2, when this fucking thing was their most effective mechanized armor. They had to use these things like tanks and got BTFO when troops got up close because they didn't even have MGs

Germans didn't use Stugs like tanks. They used them as assault guns and antitank guns.

>uhm excuse me that's not a "tank" it's an armored tracked vehicle with a turret
>>
>>35162784
that's entirely possible, many ifvs match your description.

what makes a tank a tank is that it can stand it's ground against other armored vehicles and anti-tank guns at least up front. if it can't handle direct fire from any when it was built angle it's not really a tank.

light tanks are only capable of handling direct fire from machine-guns and auto-cannons as far as armor goes but era and aps will murk this line of definition as passive armor is less and less important.
>>
>>35150015
what game?
>>
>>35162823
What makes a tank a tank is that it fulfills the role of a tank as set out by the country that uses it.
>>
>>35162861
Looks like Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy
>>
>>35162823
Not a single German tank could stand its ground against other armored vehicles and anti-tank guns up front in BoF yet they were definitely tank.

>Tank Destroyers and Assault guns aren't part of what we call Tanks
I hate this meme. Have you ever encountered someone saying the KV-2 wasn't a tank because it had an heavy artillery gun ? No ? Then any tracked, armored vehicle intended for direct fire can be called a tank.
>>
>>35164330
Why not just called them AFVs?
>>
>>35164919
they are afvs without a shred of doubt.
they were called tanks by the brits so they can talk about them without revealing their true nature. after that it became a slang term for all afv after that people started to get picky about what they considered a tank or not usually fully enclosed vehicles were tanks and not fully enclosed were not, but later on casemate style assault guns became a huge thing which were also fully enclosed but lacked the tactical mobility and versatility of the turreted designs and so on...
