That being said, I doubt that giving SAA more modern AFVs a few years back when T-72s were being popped like beers would have increased their performance in any meaningful way.

Even discounting TOW there's still probably dozens of videos of them getting killed by Soviet-designed ATGMs. T-72 performance against HEAT without proper ERA protection is a well known problem. Combine this with the Syrian tendency to leave their tanks sitting out in the open without infantry support, and the end result is a lot of dead tanks.
