Straight blowback gun with separate firing pin operating from closed bolt is more accurate both in semi auto and full auto (first short of the burst) and is more convenient to shoot without perceivable delay between trigger pull and shoot.
Aperture sight is more accurate than tangent sight and of course it can be adjusted too.

which is 9x19mm Parabellum with a specific loading, Suomi in Finnish service used a pretty damn hot 9x19 Para load, so it should be able to take 9x19mm with pretty much any load you can jam inside the case
>>

its also vastly more expensive to make and that level of accuracy doesnt matter at the ranges involved in the gun's intended operation anyway

you can hold the stock behind the magazine (might be a bit awkward but if it works for you, it works for you), you can hold the magazine (seems to be the most common way of holding it), or you can even hold the barrel shroud (favored when hip-firing, which *was* a thing that was done in real situations), which ever works for you best.

There was an experiment with a vertical grip but it was dropped when it was actually more awkward than the alternatives & it added more to the already horrifying production cost and -time.
>>
>>35147164
>its also vastly more expensive
Pls. All bolt rifles had separate firing pin nobody called them expensive, it was your basic gun.

>and that level of accuracy doesnt matter at the ranges involved in the gun's intended operation anyway
This was wrong WWII thinking "SMG is gangster gun fro shooting from hip they can be made as utter abominations". "Shooting at head popping out from cover 100 yards downrange? No, this is ridiculous scenario for combat"

Suomi was built for accuracy, the manufacturer & FDF even went as far as to test-fire each produced barrel, mark the barrel with a special stamp denoting where on the standard target the groupings appeared with the factory's standard test-firing sight settings, so each time a barrel needed replacing its' stamp would be checked & a replacement with the same stamp issued in return for the old barrel.

Open bolt SMG can be slightly more accurate, but open bolt design cool down much faster, are structurally much more simple and hence more reliable & easier/cheaper to mass-produce. With its high rate of fire and 71-round drum mags Suomi m/31 would have had major overheating problem if would have been closed bolt design - but with open bolt design and spare barrels that could be swapped easily overheating was not much of a issue. This design gained legendary reputation for its reliability during World War 2 - its a very well-sealed design, feed is far more reliable than with MP-28 related designs, its known for working also with substandard ammo and even without extractor (although with extractor blown off it is recommended to turn the weapon to its right side to add extraction).

I take it from 2. that you have no shooting experience with the real thing. The trigger is US-made semiauto-only (TNW-made) version is indeed garbage, but the trigger in original select-fire SMG is actually pretty good. As for 3. the ergonomics - they start making sense when you have SMG with working full-auto setting and know the proper shooting technique instead of trying to shoot with it like it was a rifle.

can't you get a pistol version and put a brace on it? some of them look surprisingly like stocks now.

I wish I had a M39 with that type of wood.

Do they make a brace that actually looks like the correct stock for the full size Uzi? I don't think they do.

Jesus, is it really that bad?

Buy the uzi. Sbr it in your state. When you travel between statea put the longer barrel on it out of state. Works for other guns too
>>
>>35166772
>Sbr it in your state. When you travel between statea put the longer barrel on it out of state.
But traveling out of state to shoot is a monthly occurrence for me and has been a significant portion of my range time as of lately. I really can't justify going through all the tax stamp related shit only to not be able to actually use the gun half the time.
>>
>>35166795
different anon, swapping the barrel on an Uzi takes less than a minute, no tools required, I fail to see why that would be too much hassle to do couple of times a month.
>>
>>35166942
Reread my post. I'm not actually getting to use my SBRed Uzi if I'm swapping back to a 16" barrel for a significant portion of my range trips.
>>
>>35166962
no matter how many times I re-read the post I see nothing that would explain why you wouldn't be able to use the Uzi, sure it wouldn't be an SBR with the long barrel (duh, that's the point of swapping the barrel), but I'd say being able to shoot with a non-SBR Uzi is still better than not being able to shoot the Uzi because you can't bring it out of state.
>>
>>35167045
Except not wanting a retarded Uzi with a 16" barrel is the reason I haven't bought a non SBR rifle version, and being stuck with a retarded Uzi with a 16" barrel whenever I'm doing some more causal shooting with other people instead just of shooting at my local range by myself completely ruins it. Would you want a sports car that turns into a rusty yellow Ford Pinto eyesore every time you're not at a track and just driving casually?
>>
>>35167119
so, using your own analogy, because being able to drive a sports car would mean having to at times drive a Pinto, you'd rather not have either?

I never thought I'd have to say this to someone on /k/, but no-one cares about your first-world problem, so suck it up.
>>
>>35166231
Well this is from my dad who shot the Suomi SMG, the drum mag was really easy and fast to load if you knew the trick with it. Mind you he did say he prefered the KP44 in the long patrols they had to make in Border Guard. Another problem they had with Suomis was that theirs where handme downs from the military and their barrels tended to be worn down such a degree that the started to be dangerous to use. One incident he told was guy shooting balsawood blanks in a training excercise and the blanks actually would pierce the tents they where shooting at as the adapter in the barrel failed.
>>
>>35167175
>because being able to drive a sports car would mean having to at times drive a Pinto
When the only times you'd be able to drive the sports car would be when your by yourself in a semi serious practice environment, and any time you're driving casually you'd be stuck with the rusty yellow Pinto eyesore, then yes, especially when I have other options available that don't limit me in that way. What's the point of having a gun that you like if you can only use it in a semi serious practice environment by yourself? It's the same reason Canadians prefer guns other than AR-15s that they can shoot at places other than official gun ranges.
>>
>>35167211
interesting that they didn't have decent barrels (the armorer was probably a cheapskate or something along those lines), also Suomi didn't have a separate blank firing attachment, instead the barrel would be replaced with one that has had its muzzle-end flattened.

>What's the point of having a gun that you like if you can only use it in a semi serious practice environment by yourself?
what exactly is preventing you from using it elsewhere? Is there some weird law in your state that foces you to either use it as an SBR alone on a certain range or put in a 16" barrel and take the gun to another state for shooting?
>>
>>35167286
reminder: this is what you said in the first place:
>traveling out of state to shoot is a monthly occurrence for me and has been a significant portion of my range time as of lately.
to me it sounds like you are *choosing* to go out of state to shoot, why can't you shoot in your own state?
>>
>>35167306
Huh didn't know that, the adpter was all my addition as I haven't shot Suomi myself. Dad did say that the barrel was so wornout that it didn't stop the blanks and the guy shot right through these tents when they where attacking a camp during excercise. Luckily nobody got hurt, just scared the shit out of unlucky guy doing the shooting.

And what I understand that was the general state of the Suomis the Border Guards had at that time, as I said they given by military who had been using them for several decades by then.
>>
>>35167444
that explains it; it was probably the blank-firing barrels that were worn out & dangerous, the ones used for live firing were probably still good to go since I recall hearing that when the Suomis were finally surplussed there were piles upon piles of pristine barrels that were now going to be scrapped & the people tasked with the scrapping thought it was a crime to destroy perfectly good barrels.

The other people I shoot casually with don't live in my state or go to different local ranges. It makes more sense to shoot on one of their properties when we get together than having everyone pay for membership at another range. You do understand that people sometimes live near the borders of states, don't you?
>>
>>35167658
>You do understand that people sometimes live near the borders of states, don't you?
all you had to do was to say "I want to shoot with my friends & they can't come play with me in Shithole, Arizona", no need to be an ass about it.
>>
>>35167702
>"I want to shoot with my friends & they can't come play with me in Shithole, Arizona"
I thought that would have been pretty obvious with my post here: >>35167119, so I spelled it out for everyone who apparently didn't get it the first time..
>>
>>35167722
you had me confused when you started saying that you'd *have to* shoot it alone, since you apparently have access to a range in your state, why can't you take your friends there, does everyone who shoots there need their own membership or something?
>>
>>35167775
>does everyone who shoots there need their own membership or something?
Yeah, you need to be a member to shoot there. Members are allowed to bring a single guest, but that doesn't work when you want to shoot with more than one person.
