the 870 express is a fine gun for the price

new 870 has steel receiver
new mossberg is aluminum
>>

unfortunately made by current Remington
>>

Whatever's a better deal
>>
>>35141317
870. mine was fine. just like all my glocks have been. ignore surplus k fuds, acquire reliable firearms and quit being poor.
>>
>>35141358
If it's post freedom group it's shit. If it's pre then it's the kitties titties. If you like a gun that comes with the "rust" finish that's fine, but that's not acceptable by any standard.
>>
>>35141317
>single claw extractor
Yeah naw I'd even take a maverick 88 over any Remington, I've actually have problems with extraction on one
>>
I have a 2010 production 870. finish was so garbage i had to cerakote it to stop it from rusting weekly from ambient humidity.
fuck freedom group. i wish ruger would make a shotgun
>>
>>35141480
the 870 extractor really isnt an issue and is reliable. the peened ejector however is a nightmare to replace like i had to do
>>
>>35141393
Oh, i see.
>>
>>35141317
>have a 20-25 year old 870 express
>works flawlessly
feels good nigga
>>
>>35141517
i should add the the credit of the 870 ejector's strength that i bent it by having a shell get stuck on a cracked ejector shroud that it ripped the brass off the shell where it was holding. i just hammered the extractor back to its original shape and its been fine since.

Double the cost of a Turkish clone, half the quality. Nothing Remington makes is worth their asking price like that 1911.
Mossbergs are good but just plain overpriced.
>>
>>35141656
>Mossbergs are good but just plain overpriced.
200 bucks for a 500A is "overpriced"?
>>
>>35141317
Both are great but the 500 has the lightweight receiver (bolt locks into barrel so it's not an issue), dual extractors, larger replaceable extractors, and an elevator that gets out of the way
>>
I have a 2014 Rwmington 870. It ruats constantly. The real question is, do I spend the few hundred dollars and have Wilson Combat or the like upgrade and duracoat my 870, OR do I clean it up one final time and sell it and out the money towards a different shotgun? Aside from the rust, the gun is fine
>>
>>35141358
Doesn't matter what the receiver is made of, noguns faggot.
Remshit ejects shells like a senile grandma, puts you at risk for limp wristing the action and jamming during a high-stress moment like HD.
>>
What to do about a mossberg with extraction issues?
>>
>>35142319
How old is it?

Check chamber for burrs or rust, check extractor for breakage or weak springs...

If it's newish, contact Mossberg for warranty service.
>>
>>35141656
Mossberg
Over priced

Nigga a Mossberg is going to last longer than your artery choked body.
>>
>>35141317
Mossberg if you are left handed, due to the tang safety and left sided action release (can use left pointer just fine).

Mossberg has always been aluminum, it's literally a simplified remington 31, mossberg just bought the rights to it after it was replaced by the 870. Rem even made a aluminum receiver version which is pretty damn impressive for the era

I broke ejectors on 870 two times, was annoying to replace in a nobgun country, i'dd go with the 500 (plus gloving is fewer a pain in the ass with mossberg)
>>
>>35141317
Or for around 450ish-525, get yourself a Benelli Supernova. It's a pump, has Mag extensions that fit nicely, can chamber Super Magnum (3.5") shells for maximum shoulder pa I MEAN FUN.

Also it's a Benelli

But if you want cheaper:
>Get 590A1
>Get the Magpul stock
>Get a shell carrier
>Get a light
=
Ultimate home defense gun for under $550.
>>
>>35141358
Unless the bolt locks into the receiver itself like on a fucking FAL or SKS, that's fucking irrelevant.
Aluminum is strong enough if used correctly, while steel is a liability with a shitcrafter like Rustington.

Put your post-Cerberus garbage rod in your mouth and pull the trigger, frogposting scum.
>>
>>35141656
>overpriced
Considering what a steal the 590A1 is, no they're not.
>>
>>35142159
I'd sell it and buy a Mossberg 590A1 or a Winchester 1300 Defender.
>>
>>35142646
I love the M37, I wish they made a tactical variant for fags like me.

>top rail on receiver
>peep sight with protective blades, front sight post with protective blades as well
>plastic furniture
>8rd magazine tube with end cap and lug for M7 bayonet
>ventilated heat shield
>cerakote finish
>no disconnect to allow slamfiring
Basically a Trenchgun for the 21st century.
>>
Neither. W1200.
>>
>>35142711
I have a Remington 870 express model and I can tell you for a fact that it ejects shells weak despite how hard I rack it back. Aside from that, it stove piped a lot as well. Sent it in three times, but have yet to go back to the range to test it. If it happens again, I'm just gonna sell it and save towards something that isn't a shotgun.

Cue 100 idiots complaining about new Remington while having no new Remingtons themselves.

I've never seen such a saltfest from fags over a sub-$500 shotgun. I have a new 870 "tactical" and it performs just fine.
>>
Is a mossberg 500 okay if I'm only going to trap shoot with it? Or should I get an O/U?

What are some O/U's in the 350 dollar range that are good? Or is the mossberg 500 good enough
>>
>>35141317
They're both budget-tier pump shotguns meant to compete with each other on the market. One isn't appreciably better than the other.
>>
>>35145360
if you are trying to be competitive a pumps bad
if its for fun the 500s good enough

there are no new good 350 o/u. they just dont exist. you might find a nice used double at that price but i wouldnt count on it. the stouger condor is not a good gun. its a cheap gun. pretty much the shotgun equivalent of taurus.
adequate o/u are roughly 500+ and good ones are 700+
>>
Got an 870 express around '14/'15
And have shot many more rounds through it in its time with me than a normal shooter due to it being mainly a sporting gun, local trap team practice and competitions around the state. I will say the finish is a bit worn, with a bit of a rustic hue to it in some areas, but clean her up and she looks just fine. The only time ive had stovepiping issues is when playing doubles and id be so focused on getting on the second target id short stroke the pump and clamp in my ejected shell. If it wasnt my fault, it ran.
>>
>>35145360
Pump guns are perfectly fine for trap. Been at it with my 870 for years.
>>
>>35145195
>rustington shills
Come back to me when I can buy an Express without horrible toolmarks, rust and brittle ejectors.

2/10, would not recommend.
>>
I have two 500s and an old 870 police magnum.

If you told me I needed to pick a gun from my collection to use as a club, I would grab the 870 and not think twice.

While Remignton has its issues according to the internet, Mossberg has started to use cheaper maverick parts on some newer models of 500s, so be aware of that. One of mine came with the one piece slide, while the older one has the metal action tube inside the handle. It's really only a big deal if you intend to swap the handle- you'll have to buy the action tube as well.
>>
>>35147170
>Mossberg has started to use cheaper maverick parts on some newer models of 500s, so be aware of that.
theyve done this for over a decade, usually its combo guns or walmart ones.
>>
>>35147214
The combo ones are cheap? Which ones aren't cheap?

>>35147890
the one you dont want is the one with this type of forend
its not even price really since the wood stock guns cost roughly the same and have the "good" slide where you can swap things.
it comes down to examining what you buy.
>>
>>35147952

Yep. Just look, it's easy to tell what kind it is.

I wasn't really upset when I found out since I had paid $160 new for it, but it was disappointing.

>new 870 has steel receiver
>new mossberg is aluminum

Yes and? Since when has that ever been a problem? The bolt locks into the barrel extension. The AR-15, and just about every recent semi-auto rifle uses an aluminum, or even plastic receiver, with a steel barrel extension for the bolt to lock into. Shit's fine.

Personally, I have the berg 930, which has been a whole lot of fun. one of these days I guess I'll get some kind of pump.
>>
Mossberg 590.
>>
>>35141358
dumb frogposter
>>
>>35147952
At least it's cheaper to buy a forend tube compared to a 2nd barrel
>>
>>35141317
Y'all are faggots, my Rem Express Magnum is fucking sweet
>>
>>35142864
Or be a normal person and test both.
For me supernova felt super unergonomic and heavy, compared to the extremely light and comfortable mossman. And for my usage the weight of the gun is significant.
3.5 inch shells are a meme btw.
Supernova is a great gat but with shotguns you really need to hold them in your hands before making a decision.
>>
>>35141317

Have a 500, glad I have one. Thought I will admit that the sound of racking an 870 sounds so fucking hot.
>>
>>35141317
Pretty much identical, but I like the safety on the 500 more. The maverick 88 is also exceptionally good for the price.
>>
500 is more reliable so go with that
