Even before the scary clown thing I'm sure clownery as a whole was declining rapidly, I'm 29 years old and don't think I'd ever seen a clown in real life at any kind of event. I think clowns being entertaining dwindled sometime during the cold war, and movies like the original IT and another 80s movie I can't think of took the notion of perverting an innocent, yet already a little bit creepy thing and turning it full blown creepy-scary. Hell my grandma, who died last year, always thought clowns were scary and she grew up with them being an innocent thing

Clowns aren't really a thing where I grew up nor have I seen one in person ever so I never formed an impression about them, however if I do see one of those asshole clowns that would chase you and act all creepy and shit I would be spooked good. At that point they stopped being just clowns, they are people with unusual strange appearance and questionable intent and possibiliy a threat.

I don't have coulrophobia, but I'm still weary of clowns. Is it years of pop culture seeping into my bain? The uncanny valley? A general mistrust of people hiding their faces?
