>buying first gun
>want to get a revolver, S&W appeals to me
>learn about internal locks
>only models I want are the ones that have those

Is it worth it to go through the uncertainty of buying a used gun online, or are the pros of getting a brand-new gun worth dealing with the lock?
>>
You'd be giving shekels to a business that bent the knee to the DNC, that lock is called the Hillary hole for a reason.
>>
>old s&w heavy frame

save your cash, it will be worth it
>>
>>35135521
The guns with locks are fine.
That said you can get a nice condition 686-4 for the same price as a new one and you'll skip the MIM parts and lock.
>>
>>35135521
you can remove the lock, there's tutorials on it but then again in the case that you ever zimmermanned a trayboon with that gun a prosecutor would argue you "modified the gun to be less safe"
>>
Lock + MIM parts + questionable QC = better to buy old
<--------- recent 686-6 buyer; ruger puts out better quality at this point
>>
Just don't use the lock you idiot. Fuck I'm tired of these lock meme threads for SW.
>>
>>35135763
I obviously won't, but the concern is there's reports of the lock spontaneously engaging itself.
>>
>>35135776
Never had a problem
>>
>>35135833
You can interview everyone that didn't die in the holocaust, proving incontrovertibly by firsthand evidence that it wasn't dangerous to anyone sampled.
>>
>>35135872
But the holocaust, like the hillary hole, is exaggerated.
>>
>>35135872
death != danger
>>
>>35136051
>lock engages itself in a self-defense situation
What do you call that then?
>>
>>35136073
not what I'm even talking about

you equated death to danger, I.E. everyone who didn't die in the holocaust was fine
>>
>>35135970
It's not the odds. It's the stakes. Lightning strikes are rare as fuck but I' still not going fishing in a thunderstorm.

There is zero reason to buy a S&W with a lock. There is not a single product they make whose function cannot be served by a pre-lock S&W or a revolver from another manufacturer.

InB4 Muh aesthetics. S&W's finishes are total shit these days. Yes Ruger shits up their guns with billboards but at least a billboard can't lock up my gun when I need it most. If anything a criminal might feel bad I had to buy a gun that ugly just to defend myself from him and he will rethink his life choices.
>>
>>35135521
Why donĀ“t you just browse a few gun stores/pawn shops and look for a used one in good condition?
I live in germanistan and even here every reputable gun store has at least a handful of pre-lock Smith's (which are like half the price of a new one here)

Don't worry about it to be honest. I have a 686 with the lock and I've fired hot shit through it. Never once have I had the lock engage from recoil.

If it's this big of a fucking issue just get an older model; or be a real man and get an auto loader.

And that prosecutor would be wasting his time because there is no law against modifying a gun.

Just because it's legal doesn't mean the prosecutor won't try to spin it around for a jury.

A jury full of borderline illiterates don't care about the law, they just perceive and declare guilt.

Not OP. But I'm also in the market for my first revolver Thinking about something in .357. Can anons drop some lesser-known-knowledge relative to revolvers and different ammo types? Is barrel length/twist going to factor into ammo type like 5.56 does? Any overwhelming reason to pick more beefy .44? pic not related

>a prosecutor would argue you "modified the gun to be less safe"
Then you use reverse psychology. "Of coooooooourse I removed the lock on my S&W!! Anyone can google it!!"
>>
I've always kinda wondered. Why does S&W still put the hillary hole on their revolvers when people bitch about it constantly and they don't really do anything positive for the company?
>>
>>35139581
For the same reason their product is generally soulless shit these days(like most other historic American firearms businesses) and that is because S&W is not run by gun people any more.
>>
>>35137282
>>35137377
>>35137554
>>35138740

That's when you bring up every anecdote of the locks malfunctioning on other people's guns and argue that the lock itself is unsafe
>>
>>35139658
Doubt a jury will care compared to poor little Dequan, just needed money 4 skoo n books n shiet
>>
>>35139581
It's one of those things you can't take back. It would be suicide to take them out
>CNN reports, a historic gunmaker voluntarily put an internal lock on their guns, in the name of safety
>now they are walking it back and REMOVING this feature, making it easier for kids to shoot themselves
>a gold mine for anti-gun lobbies
Gunowners would rejoice, but gunlovers don't control the media. And it's so much easier to push the "guns kill people" narrative than "guns save people"
>>
>>35139782
Your theory is an extra large bucket of fail. No one who buys their products gives two shits what anyone in the media has to say about guns.
>>
>>35139829
In case you haven't noticed gun control is dead. If it wasn't for billionaires bankrolling their "grassroots" organizations they wouldn't be able to pay to light a storage shed for a presser that no one would attend.
>>
>>35139840
For the record, I'm not a fan of the internal locks either. I'm just trying to think of it from their perspective. Assassination in the media is still bad publicity, and no one wants that. It may work well for other people/things, but not a huge corporation with over a hundred years of history.

>>35139864
Dead how? Please let it be true
>>
>>35139882
You are either a lefty shill or you don't get out much. The mass media is so thoroughly discredited in conservative circles(where most gun owners are) that they are irrelevant.

>Dead how?
Outside of communist shitholes Like Cali, NY, MA etc list all the new gun control measures that have been passed in the last decade. Compare that to federal and state wins. Outside of the liberal bastions the left has been losing across the county for Obama's entire term. Even now they can't fundraise for shit compared to the repubs. Globalist sheckles and their stranglehold on media are the only things they give them the appearance of legitimacy.

Now shut the fuck up Donny.

I know you can purchase the snubbies without a lock. I did. The model under glass had a lock though so I asked if the store could order a lockless model from their distributor, which they obviously did.
>>
>>35141378
What? Can you do that with all models? I just asked my gun shop to order the S&W 36 for me, but I didn't even realize I could ask for a lockless version. Fuck me.
>>
>>35141404
Don't freak out yet anon! I don't think S&W makes lockless versions for all models.
>>
>>35141454
>for all models
Nope
>>
I have a 329pd with an internal lock; probably the most susceptible to locking up out of any of them (44 mag that's 24oz) and didn't have it lock up, even with hotrod ammo. All that said, I still took the fucker out, even though it's probably more likely to lock up from crimp jump.

I don't mind it for that particular gun but I do have a fancy for Ruger's overbuilt 44's as well.
>>
>>35139581
The company that makes the internal locks, Saf-T-Hammer, bought S&W in 2001. They've changed names several times since then, but ownership hasn't changed hands.
>>
>>35135521
Wow I haven't seen a Hillary hole in a while now.

I shot it with the wood grips on during wintertime with 240gr at 1200ft/s ammo and it beat up my hands pretty good. The rubber x-frame grips make it quite nice to shoot but it's still snappy. Oddly easy to get on target because of how light it is. That sucks that you can't have it in canada.

Oh, and some hot 260gr hard cast kicked pretty good; hoping to just keep the defenive ammo as the 220gr.
>>
Just buy an older one.
>>
>>35141896
Yeah, I imagine it would on an aluminum-framed .44 Mag with wood grips. That's asking for punishment. The light weight definitely sounds like it'd point very quickly.
