I decided to go with the longer barrels, no cheek poker. Had I done it the other way, I would have welded on a 1/4" steel rod. If a folding sig brace is good, then that surely would be.
I'm planning on doing a quick and dirty build, using standard hardware store steel. I'm going to build it very similarly to this, but with a slightly different technique due to different steel stock shape. The receiver will be a like 2 1/8" plates welded to the breech block.
I will keep posting in these /gg/ threads with updates.

I've been looking at building a Galil for a while now, and I have a few questions. I've searched online for a little bit and there aren't really any quality video tutorials like you have made for FAL's and AK's.

1) Is it any more difficult than a standard AK build?

2) What tools are required? Are they generally the same tools needed for a proper AK build?

3) How hard is it to find barrels that are reasonably priced?

I've been planning on doing a galil video, I need to finish and edit it
but yeah
1) about the same, maybe a little easier.
2) you can use some of the same tools like trigger guard riveting tools and pressing on the gas block/fsb, which is the only component you'll need to press on.
3) you can still find OG galil barrels on gunbroker, I actually just recently sold a bunch. There are U.S. made ones available as well.

My "girl friend" and hopefully future "girlfriend" is in Northeast GA. She says she's alright. I'm in West Georgia and everything has went to shit. Power outage, trees down, luckily my shop is unscathed and I only had a little water leakage and a parts bin had knocked over. Had moved my gun projects in yesterday just in case.

I have family in the Upstate but I didn't want to get in Atlanta traffic.

Any of you goys know where to source Taurus parts? Made the mistake of buying a pt111 and couldn't even get a full box of ammo through it before the trigger bar snapped.

>inb4 muh lyf tiem waruntyy

Apparently since I took it apart enough to know that the trigger bar is fucked up, I have voided the warranty and have to pay for all repairs. Looks like I won't be able to find a replacement trigger bar so unless I find one real soon, dubs decides how I destroy the pistol. I'll film it and share the link here of course.
>>
>>35138179
No, it will be legal for the same reasons the Mossberg Shockwave and Black Aces "firearm" are legal.
It will not have a stock, and it will be over 26 inches long.

I have a commercial machine and am a pretty decent welder. I'm sure I could tig a little bead onto the tip of it (where it broke off) but I'd have to file it until it's exactly the right length (hard to tell because the broken off tip is missing, don't know how long it is) and if I couldn't even get a single box of ammo through the gun brand new, frankly I don't want it. And rather than keep dicking around with it to try and resell I figure I'll just cut my loses at 200$ and destroy it or something to release my anger with Taurus and hopefully provide the slightest bit of entertainment value for you goys. Unless someone has a link to a trigger bar for sale, dubs decides what I do with the gun.

>I'm intrigued. Explain how this is legal, please:

>How then does the Mossberg 590 Shockwave, with its 14" barrel, qualify as a non-NFA item? Due to the manufacturing process used to build the gun, it doesn't fall under the prevue of NFA regulations. Instead, the definitions that apply are found in the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA). Under these regulations the Shockwave is legally considered a “firearm,” not a shotgun.

>If, at the factory, a brand-new receiver is fitted with a pistol grip first instead of a shoulder stock, it's considered a Pistol Grip Only (PGO) firearm. If the overall length of that firearm, with the pistol grip and barrel installed, is greater than 26", then the barrel can legally be shorter than 18". In the case of the 14" barrel Mossberg 590 Shockwave, the Raptor bird's head grip gives the gun an overall length of 26.32". That makes it a firearm.

>Shortening a shotgun's barrel to less than 18" changes its legal qualification to Short-Barrel Shotgun, making it an NFA-regulated item that requires a $200 tax stamp and all of that lovely ATF paperwork. If a shotgun's shoulder stock is removed and replaced with a pistol grip resulting in an overall length less than 26" (even if the barrel is 18" or longer) the shotgun's legal status changes to Any Other Weapon (AOW). An AOW requires a $5 tax stamp instead of a $200 stamp, but the paperwork and process remain the same.

I got a (((Galil))) kit from apex. Just came today. It came with a new 223 barrel I didn't order, and didnt come with a torched receiver I did order. Kinda pissed I got screwed out of a $1 hunk of trashed metal and got a ~$70 precision turned barrel.

Apex has some great customer service if you contact them they'll send you the receiver peices for free and you'll get to keep your barrel. Once a package broke and a barrel I had in it got lost (there was even a hold the size of a barrel on the box) and they just sent me a new one

You don't ever want to just weld a whole length like that, especially not one side at a time and linearly.
That thing is now probably bent.
>>
>>35166453
>implying it was straight to begin with
Shot gun is good. You see Ivan, when barrels are bent, is make bullets of hit more enemy.

>>
>>35166917
>i did tack it into place first
I thought that was pretty evident, myself. Especially in that pic: >>35166209
Whether the barrels are bent or not from the welding process, you're still going to need to regulate them by filing the muzzles, so it's no huge loss.
Are you going for O/U or S/S?
>>
>>35166419
Isn't the heat from the weld going to fuck up the temper of the steel and make it brittle? I know that's the reason why double barrels are usually soldered onto the spine. I know the types of pressures you're dealing with with a shotgun aren't super high, but still.

I thought about this and decided "eh, fuck it."
A few reasons why:
1 - The pipe was already soft as shit
2 - royal nonesuch did a torture test with this pipe, you can't blow it up
3 - I'm pretty sure that welding it would make it softer if anything, idk tho
5 - I could always try to harden it in my hole-forge if I felt like it.
I appreciate the concern.

not familiar with the Hungarian P9M or your situation so take whatever I suggest with a grain of salt, anything you do is at your own volition and I'm not responsible for you following any directions implied or otherwise.

here's some ideas depending on what you're dealing with

1.Screw (Phillips or slotted)
A. take screwdriver and try unscrewing by simultaneously applying pressure to the threaded side via a dowel rod or similar rod shaped item, if/when the head of the screw is exposed enough(assuming a T or Y shaped screw) take a flat head and place under neath the head of the screw and apply pressure to further back out the screw.

B. Screw threads are royally fucked no amount of A. fixes the issue.
B.a. Start by praying to whatever deity will answer your prayers even the vodka gods may do (but do so soberly)
B.b. Go buy a drill press (preferably a mill), tap and die set, and screw to replace the screw
B.c. Use a undersized drill-bit and bore through the stripped screw as close to the center as humanly possible (mill would make this easier)
B.d. Go up a size until you hit threads
B.e. re-thread the hole where the screw used to be or go buy another gun because you fucked it up...

2. welded in stud or anything else (see 1.B instructions)

I don't want to have to buy more mags and another ammo type. I don't own any 223. Closest thing to it was this savage axis I converted from 223 to 545
>>
>>35177907
yeah mine is fucked, threads are fine, but the tabs are gone, and the lugs are gone.

I thought about welding it back up and milling/grinding the welds down and see if the headspace stays. shame welding this material is so fucking difficult to get just right.
>>
>>35178013
For real. What is this shit made out of? I wonder if heating it up like 41xx steel will help it weld easier
>>
>>35178030
possibly 4140. heat it up with a torch and weld it up, then grind/mill. check for fitment and headspace, then HT and tempering.

or you could buy an 80% galil from tortort and let me know if they're decent.

>or you could buy an 80% galil from tortort and let me know if they're decent.

Kek I'm extremely poor there's no way I could justify buying that when a torched one was $15. I have access to tools out the ass but no money for other things. That's why I got into building in the first place

Hey /gg/, does anyone know what the rules are for building blank fire only weapons?

step one: go to harbor freight
step 2: buy $100 flux core welder and auto helmet
step 3: practice for an hour or so

I'm pretty sure in the us you can go wild as long as it's like fully fucced according to atf regs.
>>
>>35180502
What do you mean by "fully fucced?"
>>
>>35180547
Well I haven't looked up blank guns, but I would assume that a blank gun built to atf specs of non-gun or dummy or destroyed or whatever would be fine. Like plugged / drilled barrel, etc.
Again idk about blank but I think it would be similar to a non-firing replica or drill dummy.

Newbie anon here, how do I into gunsmithing? I've been wanting to do this for years but I don't know where to start.
>>
>>35182383
Depends what you mean when you say gunsmithing. Honestly, your best bet is to just learn various metal and woodworking trades and transition into it unless you just intend to swap barrels, bed stocks and drill/tap scope mounts all day.
>>
>>35182455
My grandfather taught me the basics of welding and metal cutting (and automotive repair, though that probably doesn't translate). Anyways, I've always wanted to be able to build my own guns by finding schematics/blueprints for them online. It's probably a lot more complex than that obviously, but I figured it would save me a lot of money if I got good at it, since my grandparents already have a lathe and workshop at their house.
>>
>>35182696
You're 100% correct that it's more complex than that and if you're doing anything more than one-offs or really small batches, it's going to be a significant team effort because it's just too much for one person.

My suggestion would be to go to a trade school and then get hired by an existing firearm manufacturer.
>>
>>35182065
Hey, that sounds like a neat idea. This one will be centerfire though, I wanted a quick and dirty build. The pinfire will be a little more work, not to mention a lot less practical.

>>35155127
it really depends on the kit, different guns might need their own specialized tooling.
Most will need a new receiver and barrel, you'll either have to do a re-weld or but a new one. usually with SMGs you have to convert from open to closed bolt and make a striker or hammer system yourself. usually some machine work is needed.
>>35177590
nice receiver
>>35182383
>>35182696
just start on some beaters. Buy some old or surplus guns that need work and start tinkering. go on forums and google around how to fix or do specific mods to the guns. Buy parts kits, hit up forums like weapon's guild and start building, following tutorials or making threads, asking, googling etc.
>>35179843
each "Non gun" blank fire gun design must be approved by the ATF as a "non gun".

Because blank fire guns can be approved as non guns, there are legal and approved Full auto blank only firearm designs out there that can be built from parts kits. Most notably, Indianapolis Ordnance has several world war era firearm blank only designs approved by the ATF.

They all follow the same principle with open bolt full auto blank guns: The mid receiver sections are all new manufacture, or the entire receiver is new manufacture. The inside diameter much smaller than the original receiver and the bolt or bolt carriers are machined to fit. The barrel is permanently attached to the receiver and cannot be removed without destroying the gun. Typically it is done by machining the chamber directly into the receiver as one piece, so instead of having a trunnion or a machined portion of the receiver the barrel is installed into, you instead have the chamber itself machined into that "trunnion" or directly into the receiver

...cont from previous post...

Firearms that use a "trunnion" will have that "trunnion" permanently attached to the base receiver, typically by machining it as one piece. That's why I have trunnion in quotes, as it is not a trunnion in the typical sence, but for firearms that use trunnion based designs, this method must apply. the receiver would have to be destroyed and then rendered useless to remove it, same as if it were actually the barrel itself. This would allow the receiver to be considered a "non gun" receiver.

The chamber MUST be cut for a blank only cartridge. Most BFONGs use either 9mm PAK (a blank only "9mm" round) or 9.3 BFONG. These are propitiatory chamberings that do not allow the chambering or firing of a live round.

Indianapolis Ordnance has made approved designs that shoot short "Crimped" blanks as well, like their DPM BFONG which uses the surplus crimped 54R blanks.
Now, because the gas regulation and chamber are all integral parts of the receiver, there is no real "barrel" attached to these guns, as technically, the barrel is no more than just a chamber built into the receiver. The "barrel" on the BFONGs just act as a tube to direct the flash to the front, so you have the simulation of gunfire.
The chambers are usually off center to these "Barrels". In firearms that rely on a gas piston, there is still a typical gas port drilled on the fake barrel that allows gas to enter the gas block and work the action as normal.

These BFONGs can use the original magazines, although some with crimped blanks might need an adapter to allow them to feed into the chamber.

That's how almost all of the BFONGs on the market have been designed and approved, but you will need an ATF letter of approval for each new firearm design.

Hey guys I have a rare daihatsu jumbo that wasn't technically supposed to be imported but now I need to know, what belt feds out there have mounts that could easily be attached to my new car? I would like something that is bolt on and not permanent as these vehicles are very rare in the US. I'm thinking about bolting a tripod of some kind to the bed. Perhaps a sg43 with the wheel mount that stands up?
