Is this deep enough to bury my ammo can? How deep should you typically go? The top is about 6" below the surface
>>35131426
Bury it 6' deep, it's what I do and I've never had a problem
Sure. From whatever paranoid delusion your burying it from sure 6" is great
>>35131426
If you live outside the feel south you want to bury it at least 3 feet deep so the frost doesn't damage whatever is inside.
>>35131450
Dude you're on /k/
>>35131490
I live in the south and there's just ammo inside
>>35131450
What would happen to your buried shit in a flood?
>>35131648
>>35131426
the cheapest metal detectors can sense up to 12" deep, so >>35131490 is right, but the deeper it is the longer it takes to dig up in a hurry. I'd say compromise? I bury my guns with 2' of soil on top of them.
another good idea is to scatter nails and wire over guns and empty cases or cans over ammo stashes, because even cheapo metal detectors can discriminate between lead/brass/steel
always bury stuff in the day, because flashlights stand out and digging holes at night looks suspicious if a hunter going home or something sees your light
always bury on hillsides ore places far off from being developed; last thing you need is a suburb popping up over your stash, or it being paved over.
>>35131426
Should be fine
No metal detector is gonna ping that 6" down
>>35132140
also I always bury my shit with plenty of waterproofing and dessicant; microwaved (hard - nuke the shit out of it to get every last water molecule out) rice makes a nice silica substitute. I prefer contractor bags w/electrical tape for waterproofing, wrapped in heavy duty tarp. if you can't afford tarps to bury, triple up on extra strength contractor bags. they'll biodegrade outside in over time, but the more you use the longer it takes.
be sure to douse any guns (not ammo) in a really good oil (I use WD40 Specialist, most won't reccommend it but I love it, keeps rust away for a year, "guaranteed") prior to burial, and always bury some ammo with the gun.
never bury more than one gun in one spot
don't have a recognizable pattern to your stashes, and NEVER bury that shit in any residential area or city, no matter how hidden it may seem. do that shit in a lake or the boonies.
>>35132161
I have a $40 metal detector from hobby lobby that gets readings from 12"
>>35131426
also nice shovel. you new england?
>>35132254
no, i live in OK
Don't bury it too deep. Just enough that you can press 'F' and locate the stash.
>>35132360
ah. never been. only seen ames stuff in north east.
>>35132367
protips right here
>>35131426
>burying ammo
This thread is bait.
>>35132392
i'm going to bury a yugo ak next then some MREs
>>35132807
Why not just bury something non-corrosive that you can barter, like gold. MREs, ammo, even AKs stored in bad temperature and humidity conditions will go bad.
So, I mean, if you're just committed to wasting money, go ahead and just bury some gold.
>>35132392
Why is it bait? What's wrong with burying stock for a rainy day?
>>35132862
i want something useful on hand if a natural disaster strikes or in case of gun confiscation.
PS that can has ammo in it...
and temp and humidity aren't factors far enough underground
>>35132807
Why not a gun that's undergone a nitriding process so it's less likely to rust?
>>35132972
>temp and humidity aren't factors far enough underground
>The top is about 6" below the surface
Alright, man. Let's try it your way.
>>35132999
after reading this thread I've decided to go to a depth of 3' which puts me 2' below the frost line for where I live
>will post results
>>35133047
I live in Arizona, and I buried a gun on a hill for a week so my bitch ex-wife wouldn't find it and try to snatch it in the divorce. It was about three feet down because I was worried about metal detectors, and it was in a plastic bag inside of a long prop charge can with more than the usual amount of CLP on it. It was weeks before monsoon season and dry as a bone. Guess what had rust on it regardless of all that?
>>35133143
But did you include dessicant?
>>35131648
>You're guns
>you're
>'re
>You are guns.
>>35131426
I always bury my ammo cans 6 feet deep and then get in the hole with them before covering it up so I can be down there with it to keep it safe.
>>35131648
>>35133415
are these bait?
>>35134303
you have to go back
>>35132875
Has he really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
