Dinky sights. Not even close to drop-safe. Low cap, no ambi safety. more recoil than the average soldier can manage.

Seriously none of you know the answer? The licenses to produce 1911 pattern guns expired (but the patent *didn't*) and Colt wanted to increase the cost of both individual pieces and the cost of licensee and basically other gun companies + DoD said go fuck yourself. The 7+1 and other issues were used as justifications why they choose the M9 and what they were looking at *LONG* after the fact they announced they were dropping the Colt deal.

BTW they tried to do the same thing with the M4/M16 licenses but a court case ruled that pattern of firearm to be 'too ubiquitous' to own and basically canceled their unique ownership of it. That's why the Carbine trials and replacement trials were so big a few years back.

How is it so few are aware of the business side of war?
>>
>>35133413
Because that's nerd shit and I just wanna make things go bang and pretend that one day I'll be able to shoot looters during a natural disaster knowing deep down that I'll just panic and be really indecisive and then eventually just pretend that it'll all be fine and hide in the corner of my room if it actually happened.
>>
>>35131387

Because we had /out/ which was nice bit after that it all fell apart and now we're drinking and cleaning guns to hide our pain.

I mean .... because there's double stack 1911s now
>>
>>35133460
Double stack 1911's are hammered dogshit 100% of the time though.
>>
>>35133428

Yeah but the business side of guns is 95% of what actually causes to happen, to happen. Money is the driving force, particulars and details and constraints are just justifications as to where and how you spend the money. Believe me, if Colt was offering 1911's at $20.00 each to DoD and licensing it out for $100/year, we would still be using 1911's and *no* one would be questioning it.
>>
>SINGLE

>>35133490
Belts are single stack too. Are you saying that the 1911 should have been modified to be belt fed?

>Nah, let's switch to the Sig.
Glock really blew the 1911 right the fuck out, man.
>>
>>35133563
It's not like I can't tell you're being mean to me you know.... Besides the Sig P320 is basically a non drop safe Glock copycat like everyone else. Everybody that makes guns makes their own version of a Glock. Don't get me wrong everyone also makes 1911's. It's just almost all law enforcement uses Glock now.
>>
>>35133599
Yeah Glock did it first, but it's not like if there had been no Glock, the gun market would be drastically different. Everyone would have gotten where we are now anyway.

Because of modern cost cutting procedures

Modern poly guns are like modern trash throwaway Kia econoboxes

1911's are like 90's jap sports cars and American hot rods and gassers

High performance in an attractive, sleek design with well designed ergonomics
>>
>>35135972
Ergonomics wasn't even a word in the English language in 1911. The design was groundbreaking, but you're jerking it off a little too much here. Modern polymer guns hold twice as much ammuniton, provide greater reliability, and are lighter. There are plenty of polymer framed guns out there that outclass and outshoot a 1911.

because unless you have an outdated design that needs it to be drop safe, they're utterly pointless and just create another possible point of failure.

Why do all modern drop in triggers get compared to the 1911 trigger?
Why do companies market that 9mm is now just as good as 45 in expansion?

Why is the modern thumbs up and forward gripping style already suited for a 1911 with a thumb safety? It's all conducive to the idea that the 1911 is not outdated.

All these single stack handguns are said to be good for carry when the 1911 is extremely thin for what it is.
>>
>>35137035
No. They're mid tier at best.
>>
>>35135053
What "measurable improvements" have been made to the glock design by other manufacturers that aren't just subjective shit that some people prefer.
>>
>>35137875
>Why do all modern drop in triggers get compared to the 1911 trigger?
>Why do companies market that 9mm is now just as good as 45 in expansion?
Because it's marketing you idiot. Doesn't matter if it's fuddlore, if it sells guns it sells guns.

>Why is the modern thumbs up and forward gripping style already suited for a 1911 with a thumb safety?
Because the 1911 is designed around a natural grip. You're putting the cart before the horse.

>It's all conducive to the idea that the 1911 is not outdated
No it's not. The 1911 IS outdated. Not obsolete like a cap and ball revolver, but obsolescent. Anything the 1911 can do, modern handguns can do better, cheaper and with quicker and easier manufacturing.

The 1911 was the best handgun of its time, but it is still a product of its time.
>>
>>35131731
>saying this sarcastically
If you aren't ready to blow tyrone's dick off with a blunderbuss during a home invasion, should you really have guns at all?
>>
>>35137875
>Why do all modern drop in triggers get compared to the 1911 trigger?
Because the 1911 is babby's first SAO.
>>
>>35131387
Because new 1911s would cost $$$$$$$
The only reason they stuck around so long is we had fat stacks of them left over from WW2 and immediate post war production.
It's be quite interesting to see when the last new order shipped from colt. I'm guessing some time in the early to mid 50's.
Also NATO reasons.
>>
>>35131387
Because it's an ancient memegun that is too difficult to disassemble and keep reliable compared to the BHP and everything that came after it. I've used one as my CCW for years because of its thin profile, but the 1911 is a novelty of a bygone era. You buy it for the same reason you buy a FAL when there are better .308 rifles out there today.
>>
>>35131387
>single action
>heavy for the amount of ammo it holds

Never understand people complaining about this. Why would you want the government to waste significant amounts of money for a product that performs identically well when they actually bother to test the things against each other.

not to mention the whole

>sigfags complain beretta just out jewed them and is therefore an inferior product

>berettafags/steelfags in general complain that glocks are an inferior product that just out jewed them

>glockfags now bitch about how sig is an inferior product that just out jewed them

people get so assblasted when individuals pick a comparably performing but significantly cheaper product.

>>
>>35138849
I think a good looking brick would have worse ergonomics than an ugly one as the ugly one has a better chance to be form fitted while a good looking one will be mainly judged on how rectangular/square it is which is generally not a shape that is comfortable to hold.
>>
>>35138849
1. ergonomics is subjective and personal
2. plenty of people, particularly those with big hands, like the 92 series ergos
3. no further points needed.

We needed something that was NATO friendly. That meant not only using 9mm NATO but also using a handgun potentially not American-designed. The 1911 had her day. She shot a big round and was good for killing shit dead. But more capacity from double stack magazines and allied compatability with NATO rounds was more important in the Cold War.
>>
Better question: what were the other pistols contending with Beretta's entry now known as the M9? Was therea big controversy like with this recent pistol competition?
