Just rig a DARC strap like a normal person. The only real change you'll need to make is that you'll be slapping it on the back of the carrier with duct tape instead attaching it with one wrap looped through MOLLE.
>>
>>35133107
Three choices:
>Just get a MOLLE pouch for the smoke and it won't look so retarded.
>add another ALICE pouch to the other side to balance it out
>accept that function trumps form and that it doesn't really matter anyway
Also, source on the chest rig. I like when the MOLLE webbing is a different color than the base fabric. Ranger green MOLLE on coyote tan fabric is the sexiest.

Alright. Is it safe to attach a personal retention lanyard to a rigger's belt being used with a MOLLE sleeve, or does it have to be rigger's belt worn in your pants? Truth be told if someone just bought an empty plate carrier and didn't have the budget for good plates, I would be inclined to say spend $12 on the airshit foam dummy plates to hold the carrier's shape while you save up money, as opposed to scraping up 50% or more of what a good set of plates would cost.

What's a good pouch for a minimalist IFAK?

Something along the lines of 1 Israeli bandage, a roll of tape, a roll of regular bandage, gloves, shears, and some disinfectant, maybe band aids if there's room.

Speaking of which, for giving someone untrained in first aid how useful is a pair of chest seals? I'm guessing minimally...

>>35139374
Mag pouches were sewn so out of spec that getting a GI mag into them was nearly impossible.

>mag pouch
>cant hold mag
Not sure what their endgame is
>>
>>35139298

So then... generally speaking how fast does the onset of chest decompression being necessary happen?

Would it be a retard proof addition to put chest seals in the kit with the instruction to stick these motherfuckers ASAP in case of a chest wound?

You'll have to forgive me if I'm asking dumb questions here, I'm totally new and looking at taking a basic first aid course.
>>
>>35139441
If you need experience then look into your local red cross office or maybe even fire departments and hospitals for first aid classes and such. I don't think chest seals require printed directions since all you have to remember is to make sure the entire wound is covered and to check for and exit wound. As far as the chest decompression thing goes, you may never have to use one even with penetrating trauma to the chest, or you may need one right away. It all depends on if the patient is showing signs of tension pneumothorax or not. TPT is so dangerous because air gets trapped in the plural space of the chest cavity and actually causes the collapsed lung to get pushed into the heart until it impedes blood flow to the body causing death. The speed in which this happens varies greatly between types of chest wounds (open or closed) amongst other things. Keeping and NCD in your IFAK and having the knowledge to use it can be the difference between life and death.

My IFAK is set up based in my state EMS protocols because unlike most of you neckbeards, should I need to use it, I am licensed, certified and endorsed by an MPD to do so, hence why shit that doesnt follow state law wont be in my kit.

tell that to CoTCCC and the hundreds of soldiers, marines, and sailors that have done it overseas.

>They dont need just packing, they need surgery and a helicopter to a trauma center
if you have the medical background you claim, it should be obvious that the vast majority of the people wounded that seriously would be dead before the bird even lands

>>35140139
fucking folded gauze like https://www.narescue.com/nar-s-rolled-gauze. CoTCCC says start with hemostatic gauze, backfill with regular gauze if bleeding doesn't stop
>>
>>35140205
They are packing regular gauze, or folded gauze. Its the same shit and works just the same. I literally said I carry gauze in my kit. National EMS standards will even say to pack with regular gauze LIKE I HAVE IN MY FUCKING KIT.

Vast majority dead before a bird lands? Keep talking out of your ass. We are still going to launch airlift get them to us. My nearest trauma center is 2 hours away by road, 40 minutes by air. Our helicopter can be as close as 25 minutes away or over an hour. If the patient dies before then, nothing we could do would save them. No amount of packing is going to save someone who dies before the 40 minute flight to the trauma center even arrived, if they died that soon they were going to die regardless of our interventions.

Have you ever treated a gunshot would before?
>>
>>35140274
>They are packing regular gauze, or folded gauze. Its the same shit and works just the same.
if you think packing with 2x2" or 4x4" pads is the same as packing folded gauze, you're retarded and you should have your license revoked.

>National EMS standards
that's your problem

>My nearest trauma center is 2 hours away by road, 40 minutes by air. Our helicopter can be as close as 25 minutes away or over an hour. If the patient dies before then, nothing we could do would save them.
nigger someone can die in that time from a traumatic amputation or severed femoral artery. all things you can treat with the most basic interventions the US military teaches to the most retarded grunts.

>Have you ever treated a gunshot would before?
yes and it wasn't a shitty .32 like you probably did
>>
>>35140120
> if you think you can carry enough trauma dressings in a personal IFAK to pack a wound like that, you are sorely mistaken.

Two packs of H&H gauze and a stack of 4x4s is all you really need.

>They dont need just packing, they need surgery and a helicopter to a trauma center.

Correct.

My IFAK is set up based in my state EMS protocols

So what, you carry a BVM and an oxygen tank? Come on most EMS calls are for granny's COPD. This is obviously a thread dedicated to tactical equipment and the medical gear people select is for treating gun shot wounds and other major bleeding. Not taking crack-heads down town because they cant afford a taxi.

TCCC is the gold standard for treating combat casualties. GOOD medical advice (for our purposes) can be found in the TCCC protocols available at this link.

.22 bounces around inside the body though. You should TQ it just to be safe.

No. Have you ever seen an arterial bleed? A flimsy little band-aid is not going to stop that. You need a TQ, or to directly clamp arteries if you can.
>>
>>35140694
>holding direct pressure the whole way all the way to the hospital
nigger read your own flowchart, it says to pack with hemostatic and apply pressure dressing if it's not a open chest or abdominal wound. AKA the same shit CoTCCC says, with regular gauze backing up the hemostatics if you need more pressure.

>>35140703
why don't you think about how much volume of gauze is in a few 4x4 pads vs a single packet of s-fold gauze with 4.5" by 4.5 yards of gauze
>>
>>35140703
>4x4 will do the same fucking thing as folded gauze.

Its not as good as H&H for finger fucking into a gun shot wound. Its good for applying direct pressure over the top of the wound though.
>>
If the wound is deep, you may need to apply suction (using a straw or reed if nothing else is available), or worse, dig any dung or dirt out of the wound with whatever is availible. (Make sure whatever you use to remove the filth is sterile, even if you only wash your hands before digging it out with a fingernail)

Of course, none of that means anything if you can't stop the bleeding. In order to staunch the flow of blood, make sure to tie a tourniquet tightly. (Some people say you shouldn't tie it too tight cause you will get gangrene, but they've never seen anyone about to bleed out. You can loosen it later, in an hour or two)

If a tourniquet doesn't work, use fire. Give you're patient something to bite onto. If they pass out from shock, they might die, so do everything in your power to keep them conscious. You may need to cauterize an artery or vein directly, or seal it off with a clamp, especially if its a leg wound.

Late to the minimalist IFAK pouch discussion, but I kinda like the idea of the Tactical Tailor 5.56 mag pouch medical insert, and I plan on getting one soonish.

A double M4 mag pouch does not take up a whole lot of real estate, USGI ones are plentiful and cheap, and for under $20 you can shove a reasonably sized kit into a "semi tearaway" sort of setup. Just sew a red cross patch on it (or spray paint one on with a stencil) and put it in an accessible spot on your kit.

Hell I have a brand new UCP camo m4 pouch laying around somewhere, that's probably eye catching enough haha
