>>
>>35124189

People badmouth it because it has some problems, it launched with more bugs than RO2 did, and some things haven't been fixed or simply aren't done very well.

Stuff like MG bipods being fucked up in general, weapon resting on certain objects somehow results in firing into said object, despite the sights being above the object, and there not being enough room to jam your rifle into the object, setting aside how retarded doing that would be. The general atmosphere and voices aren't as good as RO2/RS1

Overall it doesn't feel as well put together as RO2/RS1, but it's still good, has gotten significantly better since launch, and will likely continue to improve. I'd recommend it.
>>
>>35124285
thanks for the headsup
>>
>>35124287
My big complaint on it is that it's been normiefied since RO2. Ruins the immersion.

Any of the sniper elite series of games is great . Especially if you want to watch the bullets from your vintage sniper rifles explode people's balls.

A retro comic book Based alternative is the rogue trooper video game It's about genetically engineered infantry men created by the Southers to fight the Norts. While this game features creative cover based shooting as well as stealth kills and out in the open fire fights, what really does it for me is that its based on the comics written by 2000 AD, the same people behind judge dredd and tank girl. The game Put you into a Halo esque version of the allies versus the axis but with the overtones of the Civil War. I actually don't own very many comic books but playing this game convinced me to purchase the Anthology version of the comics for myself. You will need Over consul to play it though I have it on the original xbox and the play station 2

Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander could suit you if you want an action-filled RTS at an *actually strategic* scale. Instead of having a pile of money with which to buy units, you get a constant production of power and mass from your resource gathering installations and use that to constantly build units. Your transports can be set up to airlift units from one location to another continuously, reinforcement lines grow into place naturally etc.

Strategic nuclear weapons fuck shit up and you better have anti-missile defense in place before your opponent goes nuclear.

My favorite thing in the series are these Destroyers that can fold out spider legs and continue a naval assault on land along with units deployed from landing craft.
>>
>>35124287
In RS2 bullets don't shoot from sight so you need to lift it above object.

There's never been a better time to get into Rainbow Six Siege.

Be advised, the learning curve is stupid steep for what is by no means a Mil-sim type game. It's arcadey but map knowledge, Operator knowledge, and learning angles will take time. You will die quick, you will die often, but the reward is amazing gameplay.

The lack of maps is probably the biggest problem.

I think a lot of people get frustrated with the game and drop it, too. The game's realistic mechanics mean that campers have a major advantage, and playing the objective can get damn infuriating on public servers where nobody deals with them.

Also, the servers fucking blow. I'm in LA and somehow get 100+ ping on Seattle servers, in any other game that distance would be like a 30-40 ping. That results in a lot of getting killed after running into cover, or getting shot by guys who aren't even looking at me on my screen.

Also
surprise surprise, the creator of h1z1, an early access online survival game that had a battle royal mode left his game to make another early access battle royal game. Give it a few months and some hot new battle royal game will come take all the fame from pubg, and Brendan Greene is going to move on to something else new marketed as 'early acess' to start the cancer over with

I like PUBG because it's a decently competitive game but without the aspects that make most competitive games stressful. There's no team to let down, and no rank to lose, so if I do badly in one game I can just join another and try again.

>I don't like getting shot by enemies I was not aware of, which happens in every other shooter
>I also don't know there are FPS only servers for all three gamemodes now

You could at least bring up legitimate complaints like the devs promising not to bother with micro transactions until after release, fucking up their implementation and then retracting it after massive community backlash, and then resolving to lock all the camo clothing that gives a tangible in game benefit behind a retarded tf2 crates system upon launch

Let alone all the streamer drama

But with these complaints what are you doing playing shooters in the first place

>h1z1
>niche
over 6 million people played it, how many people do you think have seen it on youtube?
>being shot by shooters that catch me off guard
I've played plenty of online games over the years, I've been killed by more campers than I could count, If I got shot in the back of the head in halo, I was cool with it, If I turned a corner in CS GO and get buck shot to the face I'm not mad, back during the arma 2 mod days for Dayz I wouldn't even get really upset if I was too close to a road and a sniper took me out because that was my mistake, it could cost me up to 4 hours worth of lost time but I respected their patience. What upsets me in pubg is that the game forces you to do stupid shit like sprint across open fields to get away from the blue zone as fast as possible. The game puts you in situations where you're forced to do stupid shit.

If you actually pay attention to the timer, plan your route of travel, and move before the circle comes in then it isn't hard to stay in relatively well covered areas while moving for the circle. Or hell, even just find a vehicle to cross those open areas.

Sure, you're going to have to do it every now and then no matter what you do, but that isn't a flaw in the game. That's the luck of the draw fucking you.

If it happens to you repeatedly, it means you're shit at the game and bitching and moaning rather than gitting gud.

>Doesn't change that 3rd person is broken OP
Yes, and the whole point there is that if you don't like it then you can play on a first person server, where you literally can't use it.

Wildlands was ass my dude. It could've been a decent Oper8or game, but they cheaped out on the AI and made it so if someone spots you, everyone knows where you are, even if you shot them before they could say/do anything.

That, and the fact you couldn't customise your squad mates ruined it for me. What's the point of me setting up different camo outfits for different terrain if my squadmates are still going to look like a bunch of hipstery cunts?

>3rd person
In general I prefer to play very open games like this in 3rd person when scavenging and running, then 1st person when shooting. I could play in a 1st person only server but limiting mechanics in the game is a failure of the dev.

>the only legitimate complaints that I will say are legitimate complaints are ones you can gather by following the game on an external source and are not inherent to the game's mechanics
from a mechanical standpoint the game is poor. I don't need to get into the politics of what's wrong with the devs despite my stab at leaving h1z1.

It would probably be easier to just import assets to another game with better netcode

You get the award for most retarded post of the year. It's videogame AI meant to cause immersion and challenge, not ask philosophical questions. For the time they created it, designing AI against levels with multiple pathways and corridors and having the AI competently stick to it WAS advanced. The real trick in immersion was in the narration.

It wasn't a fully functioning robot, but don't let people's well earned approval embitter you toward what was a real achievement in shooting.

And for all of your talk about it not being advanced, it's still a hell of a lot better than Call of Duty and its garbage clones "Pop up and wait to get shot" AI despite being made well over a decade ago.

You're the only autist here mate, unless you'd like to actually prove that the AI did anything that hadn't been done before. Just read the paper.
>designing AI against levels with multiple pathways and corridors
Incredible, basic path finding!
>having the AI competently stick to it
whatever that means. Again, they stick to their invisible AI rails and have basic modes, combat, searching, etc. That shit was in MGS 1.
>embitter you toward what was a real achievement in shooting
I agree that it's an achievement, but not because of advanced enemy AI.

Reciever is top tier fantastic.

my only gripe is that its badly optimized, short on content, and that its only you vs machines, not against humans.

D.U.S.T. was gonna improve that, as the same thing but PvP specops in a desert area fighting with rifles. However last i heard the dev quitted the game and dissapeared.

Now that VR is a thing there are no more games with key bindings related to weapon functions.

Is it REALLY that underrated?

Its probably the most realistic RTS in existence. Devs are dicks and wont put it on steam and the game is overpriced as fuck and its outdated, but IIRC it was used by the armed forces to train tactics. That game is retardly realistic sometimes.

>Demonstrates it emperically
>Gets told he's not playing a "standard" rts by the devs
>Demonstrates, without question, something is wrong.

>Dev comes in announces that it turns out unbyuttoned t34 drivers in the middle of dust clouds were spotting as well as the commander of a panther, with its engine off, sitting in woods 2km away, and therefore raging around full speed with unbuttoned crew tanks STILL spot better than any other vehicle in any state.
>Dev locks thread
>Bans guy who pointed it out
>No one apologizes to guy in question.

Also: "Trenches" that are actually 3 foot high sandbag walls.

>We can't sink trenches because then it would distort the 3d terrain and opponenets online would see it

Maybe don't design your engine that way then, fuckface?

STALKER: Call of Pripyat
>With Misery mod
>With The Armed Zone mod

Enjoy the suffering. God knows I have... I also ate almost nothing but cooked mutant meat which gives radiation, and I used almost nothing but booze to cure said radiation. I than had a shot (usually of vodka) every time I drank in the game. I've gotten drunk MINIMUM 100 times from playing CoP, I'm sure. Maybe even 200+ times. I used to drink essentially every single day from around 2013-2016 so yeah, I'm not 30 yet but I've easily been drunk over 1000 times. If I ever felt like playing CoP without drinking, I'd have to dig into my small stash of non-radiated imported food. That and/or use lots of water to help with radiation.

Also, I ALWAYS had a primary firearm and a sidearm, and one of them was ALWAYS a firearm I have owned. No exceptions. I also actually used to go into the files of CoP to alter firearm stats so that it'd be more realistic. For instance, increasing the rate of fire for the TT-33 and SKS, which were something like 1-2 shots per second or something ridiculous like that. There were other aspects I'd change as well.
>>
>>35143873
I already had suspicion that they were dicks because of their excuses to not get the game onto steam and their ridiculous pricetag. But thanks.

However, i still think the game remains the most realistic RTS unless you count in men of war with a few mods.

I have to agree with the sentiment that Cataclysm DDA isn't as /k/ as it should be, mostly because the development team has gotten way, way more cancerous over the years. No crafting guns from scratch because that's apparently impossible (lmao) and any attempt to mod it in is cockblocked at the highest level. Crafting in general kind of makes me sit there and wonder who they're trying to appeal to, because while it is powerful it is sometimes retarded. I saw some people raise questions or make comments and the answer can basically be summed up as...
>"WELL REALISM OK IS NOT WHAT WE ARE DOINGS OK AMERICANS ARE OBSESSED WITH GUNS OK NOT FUN FOR EUROMEANS YOUR OPINIONS OF INVALED."

I mean if you're trying to appeal to the kind of sperg who loves to live in the "yeah I could do that" kind of simulator, and I include myself in that, then why the fuck is realism considered a chore? Vehicles are also a point where I'm wondering why even bother because it's clear the people involved are retarded, somebody suggested hydroponics and somebody else said that was literally impossible. I almost posted pictures of my potatoes being supported by grow lights running of of roof-mounted solar panels. The game has actual vehicle-mounted nuclear reactors and I'm like "how is it impossible."

Just dumb. It's fun right up until you realize it's being plowed right into the ground by edgy retards. Sapped all the interest out of it for me, I just cannot bring myself to bother anymore.

>>
>>35152773
Huh, could have sworn I was playing 2.2 but I guess it was 2.1. Whatever the case, it was loads of fun, and with The Armed Zone mod it adds SO damn many firearms it's unreal. I actually used to collect one of each variant of each firearm save for the rusty/corroded/neglected examples. My stash would become PACKED with various designs, and I ultimately had a list of several firearms I would upgrade as I see fit, and use those over and over and over.

>9x18
TT-33

>9x19
Hi Power (Alternative)
MP5A3 (Customized) (I think...)

>.45 ACP
M1911 (Customized (I think... it's been a very long time since I played it. I need to get a proper gaming computer again)
HK UMP (Customized)
M1A1 Thompson (just to fuck about with when I feel like having a weird loadout)

>5.45x39
AKs-74

>5.56x45
AK-101 (Basically an AKs-74 (Modern) rechambered to 5.56)
Sig 550 (Modern) (If I want a slightly more heavy-hitting 5.56 rifle)
M4A1 (If I want a lighter loadout)

>7.62x39
AKM (Customized) (Or whatever that one on the gas station is)
SKS-45 (I go into the files and increase rate of fire, as mentioned, and make sure it's slightly more accurate and as powerful or more slightly more powerful than the strongest AKM variant)

>9x39
AS Val

>7.62x54r
PU M91/30 (The fancy one you start out with as sniper, and I'm always sniper)
SVT-40 (Essentially the SVD-63 Draguov (Alternative) with iron sights available, always bring a scope too though)

>7.62 Nato
L1A1

>.357 Magnum
Webley Mk.VI (Essentially that funky break-action Russian revolver)
M1 Carbine (I rechamber the M1 Carbine to this so it's more in line with .30 Carbine)

As you can see, some designs I've owned are represented by stand-ins, like the Webley Mk.VI and SVT-40 so that those designs count as ones I've owned. It would be more accurate if the Webley was chambered in .45 ACP, but I need .357 Magnum chambered firearms. It takes a LONG time to get an iron-sighted M1 Carbine and to upgrade it to max.

A laser that can literally vaporize a human body in a flash does actually need to be bolted in place, these things that can punch holes through crazy sci-fi armor are just so much bigger than that. Oh and I have experience with what an insanely powerful current does when forced through cables. My railgun experiments taught me to secure shit because things jump and flail.

When a cable as thick as a grown man's pinky springs to life and snaps in two it still wants to arc, it's fucking insane and instantly lights shit on fire. (in my case it lights everything on fire) Almost killed myself with 1.21 niggawatts in the name of garage science, just to try and make a 13mm ball bearing do it's best .30-30 impression. I burned down my shed in the most spectacular fashion possible and honestly I don't regret it even though it did cost me a lot of money.
