That's nice. What grain and how much pressure will it generate? How will you calculate what pressure your pipe will take with what mass projectile? What breech plug will you use?

Its a bomb. It could fire twice before stress fractures cause it to take your hand off.

A lot more to it than that. They preferred to use old horseshoes as the effect of cold hammering helped. Even then a barrel maker did a 7 year apprenticeship. Most colonial guns were imports. Either parts or complete guns. Locks on revolutionary era guns came from mainly Bristol in the UK or after hostilities France.

BTW that is the crudest possible barrel, winding composite strips around a rod and then hammering or even Spanish style layers of increasing diameter sleeves. Gunsmiths were using high pressure hydraulic testing to initially proof barrels pretty early on to. Its a fun vid but there is a shit ton more to it than that.

I agree but its a nice thing not a how to. traders like ketland supplied colonial America with guns as did the Bristol gun trade. Then the french with Charlevilles etc. Damascus barrels are particularly dangerous when old by the way. Trade guilds kept gunmaking techniques like annealing and blueing as masonic style secrets.One man did one job, originally the word detonator was for the man who fitted the firing mechanism as an example.
