Very little in this world that you can't kill with this gun. Comfy classic. Kinda heavy, but you wanted wood, so deal with that. You can also get something similar in .308, but that's almost down to personal preference and whatever bullet you have easier access to at your local gun store. 30.06 is around 26 bucks for a box of 20 at my lgs, but I'm sure you can find them cheaper.

Absolutely love my axis in 30.06. Great rifle, and it's very cheap. Though if you're worried about kick OP, make sure you don't get the polymer stock, it's very light and does very little to mitigate. But the lightness in my opinion makes it a great hunting rifle.
