I need your help /k/
I just got two handgun permits, and one of them will be going toward a 1911, the other is for a .357, but I can't decide on which one.
Anyone have any major preferences of either the Blackhawk or 686+?
Keep in mind the use will primarily be range toy.
If it helps, I also have a Henry Big Boy in .357 so if just keeping the Western theme through multiple firearms with the Blackhawk (or Vaquero?) is a good reason I'll take it.
Where do you live? Do you live somewhere you can get Manurhins or Korths? If you do, I would avoid Rugers and S&Ws entirely.

So why do you need two permits even though it is a certification?

best .357's
>early colt pythons
>s&w 686 without lock
>manurhin mr73
>s&w model 27
>ruger gp100 i guess
>ruger blackhawk i guess
the best out of those, nobody would agree unanimously. pythons are smooth but delicate, expensive, and the later models aren't as good. model 27 is very large and heavy. ruger is considered a lower range brand and has bias against it. manurhin is french and hard to get anything that isn't some surplus, and the 686 has so many changes through its production that it's hard to decide which version is the best other than the ones before the lock.
just as an aside, IMO the best 686 is the 7 shot no lock model. it's practically impossible to find and people want $1000+ for them.
TL;DR depends on what you really want, nobody will agree

I mean both are strong enough to handle hot loads indefinitely, especially the blackhawk, and both guns are emblematic of their type. Would you rather a single or a double?
If you're going for a more Western theme Ruger makes the New Vaquero, which is a slightly smaller Blackhawk with fixed sights.

whut he said. I have a 6" 686-4 and it took a year an much patience to find. I would not rule out DW from the original factory

I love my Vaquero

Not quite
>>35120024
this is an example of what i was talking about with the 7 shot no lock 686. notice how they want like $1,800 for what otherwise is just a 686, a gun that goes for under $1,000?
http://www.gunbroker.com/item/690287955
it's a good version and probably what i'd buy if I wanted a 686. not that exact one though since this turbo low IQ faggot """""customized""""" it.
>>35119287
I have the exact model 686+ in your pic and I love it. Don't listen to the fags about the lock. Literally no problems with it, I load some pretty hot .357 and it all runs smooth. If its really a big deal you can take it out and plug the hole.
Trigger and finish are really good, shoots like a dream and is fun.

>HURR PYTHONS ARE DELICATE AND BREAK AT THE DROP OF A HAT
I hate this meme. Idk how it got started but it's fucking wrong. If you shoot a Python enough to break it then guess what? You've also probably shot enough to break a S&W or Ruger as well.
AND if you can afford to feed it a steady diet of heavy .357 enough to break it you can afford to have it worked on IF it ever needed it.
>tl;dr: Pythons are not "delicate" and parroting internet memes doesn't make you seem intelligent to anyone, quite the opposite.
They're held up on a pedestal by some that they shouldn't be, they're not as nice as a Korth, but they're not fragile either.

I would definitely limit myself to Vaquero or Blackhawk. I prefer fixed sights, and no stupid keyhole exposed to dust. Manurhins are overpriced unicorns. Blackhawk will last forever. Vaquero will teach you discipline, like a single-shot rifle or SxS. Personally I'm saving up for one of these: >>35120207
Nice sixgun anon.
how do you guys feel about gp100 vs the two mentioned guns in OP?

Can you guys explain this hole meme? I am looking to get a 686 but I don't want to buy it if it's gonna cause problems? What is it, just an external safety that people get uppity about?
>>35120337
GP100 is a great gun, my buddy has one.
Looking to pick one up soon.
>>35120359
Its a lock that has a key you can engage to prevent the hammer and cylinder from moving.
Fuddlore states that if you shoot hot 357/44 in the models with the locks it will accidentally engage the lock and freeze the gun up.
Like I said, I load some HOT 357 for hunting and theres been zero problems with literally thousands of hot loads through mine.
>>35120390
The purported issue is in aluminum-framed snub-nosed revolver. S&W somewhat acknowledges it, since they make J-frames without the hole currently.
>>35120337
I'm looking to get a 4" SP101 next week, they seem good enough
>>35120409
The trigger is my biggest complaint. When they get hot they start to get a bit of trigger slap. Can give you a bad blister. It's also pretty heavy, and lightening it will usually give you unreliable ignition.
Ther than that I like it.
>>35120492
interesting, I like the heavy trigger and I'll probably be shooting it mostly single action anyway

kill yourselves.
How much do super blackhawks in 357 usually run?
just get the s&w. cowboy guns not in cowboy calibers are gay.
>>35119287
Rugers suck lol
Smiths are the only revolvers worth buying, fact
>>35121871
> X sucks lol
>because I said so that's why
Well at least all the revolverfags can agree that the .357 is a great round that shits all over the the endless 9mm .45acp cucks on /k/.
>>35120332
>You've also probably shot enough to break a S&W or Ruger as well.

probably not

Super Blackhawks are typically .44 magnum, but .357 Blackhawks are usually around $550.
>>35120967
In no way is it a big deal you fucking moron.
