Hornanday makes a 9x18 version of their critical defense JHP ammo for carry, and cheap steel 9x18 for practice is easy to come by. if you really want you can buy a .380 acp barrel and have it swapped out and they made so many of the damn, things that replacement parts are cheap and easy to come by. Not that you'll ever really need to replace or fix anything in it.

East German makarov is best makarov

Excellent guns. I bought this one for $325 it came with 2 mags and 500 rds of tula ammo the iwb holster and mag puch were an extra $50. It's my EDC, and is great for appendix carry in minimal clothing.

Were you using the slide release to chamber rounds? I've heard that part is more brittle than other parts of the gun, and it's better to always rack the slide by hand when shooting a Makarov.

Yay, they're very reliable and they're probably the best CC pistol FOR THE PRICE. Sure there are newer guns out there for the same price range, but that doesn't mean shit because the Makarov is still a 100x more reliable. There are tests online, the MilitaryArmsChannel did a good test for it to prove it.

it stopped slamfiring when I replaced like half the parts. as for the DA, when I pull the trigger the hammer comes all the way back but it doesn't drop, and releasing the trigger harmlessly lowers the hammer. It fires and cycles fine in SA. anyone experienced the same thing?

note that this doesn't really bother me because I never carry it, but I just figured I'd post since there aren't too many makarov threads. The gun has about 7k rounds through it and the problem didn't develop until after about 5,500. I've taken the gun completely apart and reassembled it many times.
