Didn't have one in a long time. Post and discuss everything with treads.
Was the Comet actually a completely different tank or just a Cromwell with a QF 17-pdr?
>>35115435
Someone can maybe give more detail on the chasis differences, but it wasn't a QF 18-Pdr it had. The Comet used the 77mm HV.
Very very similar, but not quite the same gun.
>>35115451
17-Pdr*
Silly typo. Good excuse to post another Comet pic though.
Didn't know that yet, great picture btw!
A very pretty tank imo.

obviously
>>35115432
So when a motorcycle goes up on one wheel it's called a "Wheelie".
When a tank goes up on one track is it called a "Trackie"??
>>35115943
Good question man, seems logical, but I'm no expert on the issue.
>>35116138
I ask because I play World of Tanks, my M24 Chaffee is my primary tank, I've modified the crew and the equipment and turned it into a super fast drift-tank, which goes off jumps, drifts donuts around heavy tanks and TDs and often can be seen traveling over 80kmh on one track as I flank behind enemy snipers.
Shit is fun, and I want to see a real tank doing a rackie. I've seen tank drifting, but it's always on ice, never cobblestone or sand like in WOT.
>>35116171
I don't play World of Tanks, but it must be possible somehow...
me on the left
>>35116655
these things look really cool imo
>>35116171
>playing world of tanks
God that game is hot garbage. You would throw a track super fucking quick if you did the shit you do in that game.
The first German TD of the war.
>>35116690
Right? They have a solidly cool look to them. Clean and simple.
>>35116715
I wouldn't feel safe in them, though. Especially in a city, where there's a good chance you'll get a Molotov cocktail thrown inside.
>>35116729
Oh, definitely. Thing must have been like a bucket waiting for a drop, the way it looked. Is art okay for the thread?
>>35116750
>Is art okay for the thread?
I guess so, I'm not someone who originally made these threads, just remembered them and thought they were cool...
Serious question. Are rubber tracks here to stay?
They have alredy been proven to handle 35 tonne vehicles and its probably just a matter of time before someone peresents a set for MBTs.
Given that their main drawback (field repair) has been solved, is there any reson not to go with them on things like APCs and IFVs considering the advantages?
>Substantially better fuel economy (25 - 30%)
>Increased top speed
>Less vibration, meaning less fatigue on the crew
>Less maintanance (due to less vibrations)
>Reduced weight
>>35116786
>>35117465
So it is said, so shall it be.
>>35117469
>>35116930
They do not stand up well to rocky terrain, have significantly shorter track lives as vehicle weight goes up and cannot be field repaired easily.
They are an excellent option for support vehicles, but not front line combat vehicles at this time.
>>35117489
Metal tracks will be the track of choice for anything other than even ground and roads for a long time coming, if you ask me.
Poland and Ukraine teamed up for a T-72 modernization, the PT-17.
It has an 120mm L/50 gun and an autoloader.
>>35117564
Big tonk

>tfw no leichter panzerspahwagen to patrol border in
>tfw ywn drive the mountain roads with your bros in a souped up scout car
>>35117489
>>35117521
That might be the case, I guess it also comes down to what type of terrain and climate you have in the country of operations.
Metal might be better in some places and rubber in other.
hey, I got this chart here about the chinese tank developtment. IIRC there was for slav developtment too. Does anyone have the other ones?
>>35117602
It's not like you couldn't...
>>35117602
>>35115460
Israeli captured these tanks in '67 and used them during the Yum Kippur war.
>>35116699
Oh I know it's super unrealistic, but it's pretty fun as far as free games go. I compare it to a FPS shooter with bolt action rifles and realistic movement across the battlefield, slow precise shooting, slow marches up hills, fast charges down them, highly based on camouflage, cover and stealth tactics.
Pretty much just a WW1-WW2 slow pace FPS with a tank theme.
I'd like the US Army to once again provide light tanks to our Airborne troops.

Better than being outside getting shot by small arms and artillery fragments.

You mean MPF? We should be seeing the current offerings at AUSA next month.
>>35117553
Is the ammo all in the bustle?
>>35119755
Yes, a 22 round autoloader.
How can shitgers even hope to compete?
>>35119777
Nice, thanks.
Any other ammo stowage on the vehicle? 22 rounds isn't a lot, and without a carousel I'd assume some stowage below would be possible if unsafe.
>>35117553
But why a small turret? Why not go a little crazy a create a new one with a lot of gizmos?
>>35120476
I wouldn't call it a small turret.

Start at 6:40. It's just a truck, but its high walls would cause the same thing. Also seen in here is a Char B1 that someone had hidden somewhere and managed to get it working again to kick out the Germans.
>>35118703
Y'know it's hard to pin it down but Soviet era tanks just have a fantastic aesthetic to me. Something about the tracks and road wheels I bet.
The IS-2 is my favorite tank, something about it is just captivating to me, shame it's hard to find historical pictures of it.
any good tank books or websites discovered lately?
>>35119784
Gee, I don't know
Tiger I:
>more accurate gun
>much faster reload time
>able to destroy the IS on normal combat ranges
Tiger II:
>more accurate gun
>better armor-piercing gun
>better armor
>faster reload times
the IS was a good tank, but it wasn't some miracle (just like the Tiger wasn't). A Panther could take it out on normal ranges.
>>35123153
there's a Youtube channel with several detailed documentaries on German WW2 tanks, if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/user/geesusdb/featured

at tank level it is very good, comparable to steel beasts, commanding has a bit of a learning curve due to russian ui developers`
