You have to be 18 to post here.
First is the original 10mm Handgun from, you know, the first Fallout? I know you never played it.
Second is the SCAMP which, indeed, has nothing to do with anything.
Third is the Perfect 10, which is literally what is present in Fallout 3, NV, and 4, but in a practical, real-life form.

>build a shit ton of ships

This is why. UNSC ships are huge, and if they werent built right the forces of the super MAC would rip them apart.

And to be fair, a few ships had MAC guns of that size. Most were smaller.
>>
>>35122128
they did, MACs and tactical nukes are the primary weapons of human ships. the ones on the orbital defense platforms are stationary, so it stands to reason they'd be more powerful, much in the way a stationary .50cal is more powerful than a M249 a single troop can carry
>>
>>35122128
That's what they did, MACs are on fucking everything because humans cannot into high-tech blue boomsticks.

That doesn't fix the problem of not getting blown up, UNSC ships could poke holes in enemies or nuke them (if the nukes got through) but at the end of the day it's one haymaker that takes awhile to wind up again.
>>35122375
>UNSC ships are huge
lol

Tit for tat the Covenant out-weigh, (mostly) out-gun, and out-armor every human ship out there. Even picket vessels are bigger, the one thing the UNSC have is the MAC blasting for most of the war and that's barely effective.

>>
>>35122550
Not disputing that covenant ships are pretty much 110% superior to human ships b pretty much every possible metric, but the UNSC does utilize nukes. the 1-2 punch of a volley of nukes + mac shot seems to knock out a covenant ship pretty easily, the EMP produced by the nukes dissipates energy shielding and MACs even on smaller ships are quite capable of mission-killing or completely destroying Covenant ships of a similar weight class.
>>
>>35122576
holy shit, he's in every thread.
>>
>>35122642

Lol nope. For most of the war UNSC got curb stomped, at one point some captain said it was considered a victory if the took down a covie cruiser and only lost three human ships in the process. If it wasn't for Installation 07's discovery, and the destabalization of covenenant through civil war, humanity would've been extinct.
>>
>>35122576
Nah, 40k attracts weirdos because it's pretty much a slightly more socially acceptable version of Fuhrer worship, you can go around screaming FOR THE EMPEROR and pretty much the worst thing that will happen to you is weird looks or neckbeards responding in kind (worse imo), but stand on the street, throw a Roman salute and yell Sieg Heil and see what happens.

People want (and need) a strong figure to look up to and emulate. Many 40k people are closet white supremacists, the whole shtick of the Imperium is "kill xenos because they are inferior, keep the race pure by culling mutants and psykers, fight heresy (communism) wherever it appears, revere the Emperor". The parallels with the ideas of racial hygiene are obvious. Even the ones that aren't racist tend to be conservative. It's why "God Emperor Trump" is a thing and people unironically refer to him as such. More well adjusted white supremacists like myself keep their spaghetti in their pockets and only out themselves on anonymous Cameroonian blacksmithing websites, of course.

That doesn't have anything to do with the actual capabilities of human vessels or their tactics, if you sent a regiment of redcoats across an open field to fight against troops manning a PKM you're going to get the obvious results. That doesn't mean that the Land Pattern Musket is a shitty weapon for it's time, it's just that the immense technological disparity renders it....a little ineffective. Eventually the redcoats would figure out to take cover and flank that MG nest, because if they could get in range even their obsolete weapons could punch through the gunner's armor and kill him. The UNSC figured out that if you nuked a Covenant ship first to take down it's shields, THEN hit 'em with the MAC, you can more or less guarantee a kill. The challenge, for both the redcoats and the UNSC ships, is staying alive long enough to carry out your plan.

Also, the incident you refer to takes place around or during the Battle of Reach, before humanity figured out how to fight the Covenant in space.

The Orbital Defense Grids on Reach, Earth, etc are powered by generators on the surface with the power transmitted wirelessly into orbit.

The amount of energy required to power a super MAC couldn't be fit aboard a UNSC ship without some insane size. In that case, they were just a bigger target because the Covenant possess the ability for very accurate in-system slip space jumps.

Super MACs have the advantage of defending a position the Covenant HAVE to advance on, so aiming is a bit easier. In open space, it's easier to avoid letting the enemy line up a shot on you.

The ODSTs have their place.

The whole point of that fight was to show off just how utterly balls to the wall amazing Spartans are, how they're not even human anymore - they're on an entirely different level, and it's how they can justify them threshing through the previously very scary covenant like so much chaff.

NCO Man, when properly armored and with his crime against everything AI in tow, literally punched a rocket out of the air.

So yeah, the Spartan is ultimately more capable - yeah, he can kill that sangheili. Yeah, the guys in this image are really acting more for show, because they know that if John actually intended to kill that officer they'd be on stretchers and the officer would be in several pieces.

But they do it anyway.

For the Spartan it isn't as impressive because he is on that other level. He is wearing armor that costs as much as a cruiser by itself, he's had his nerves wired, his bones are made of metal, and he has been practicing more or less since he could tie his shoes.

The ODST doesn't have any of that. He was the first generation boogyman, before the Spartans - equipped with covert weaponry, designed to be the ghost in the night and to strike fear into the hearts of the Innies.

With a few exceptions, he's expected to tackle the same missions as the Spartans, being just a man. He knows what he's up against, and that while Spartans never die he stands a very good chance of it.

And he does it anyway.

And he succeeds.

Not the guy you might be trying to reply to. But I think I know why he's one of the people who pretty much shares the same idea as to why our tech beats Imperium and such.

He probably does not like the very boxy designs and looks that are present with 40K Imperium tech and prefers the much more smoother and sleek sci-fi designs. Same for me, I too don't really like 40K's grimdark and boxy designs and prefer the much lighter and smoother and sleek sci-fi tech stuffs.

Anon's probs basing the facts of how GW also describes the armor thickness and effectivity of Imperium tanks in one of the codexes. And really the Imperium war machines are described don't sound that good at all. Likely due to the fact the people of Games Workshop, the creators of 40K are simply geeks and nerds who created a fictional universe with space magic, demons and shit. And that they're not actual military engineers or don't have that much "proper" or actual weapons knowledge to know how to make their fictional hardware sound more powerful.

I can understand not liking the aesthetics, but the lasgun for one thing would BTFO the vast majority of small arms we have today. Imagine having a standard infantry rifle with literal laser accuracy, rechargeable ammo that can be replenished by leaving it in the sun for a few minutes, and the stopping power of an M2 Browning with none of the recoil, on top of being able to blast apart concrete walls in a single shot.
>>

It's pointless to compare a lasgun to anything in the real world because physics absolutely do not allow for it to work as described.

It's actually not good to obsess over anything, much less history. I can guarantee you that most people look at you the same way you look at other people for liking a hobby/setting that you don't. I fucking hate Halo's gameplay, but I understand why a lot of people like it. However, I don't sperg out in a thread calling them all petulant manchildren for liking the game or the design of the weapons (poetically, acting exactly like those you are describing). You're just projecting how pathetic of a person you really are, worse than the ones you supposedly hate, when you've met one person that conveniently fits your stereotype, if that happened at all.

If you've ever actually met a group of people who likes 40k or other miniature games, you'd find they're mostly upper middle class guys who like to paint and play skirmish games.

>I just can't bring myself to get over the neckbeard aspect of it all.
Then kill yourself. It will only haunt you at night you overdramatic bitch. It's a hobby, people will continue to play it despite your worthless input, you're not going to stop it. He wouldn't see with good eyes a bunch of heavily armed soldiers unnecessary burning alive thousands of innocent lives everyday.
Also I'm surprised the white supremacy thing comment,I mean to the whole empire, your skin colour doesn't matter as long as you serve the emperor.
Even yet the IG is supposed to be the most multicultural fantasy army ever created as hundred of regiments come from different planets with different climates, resources and cultures. This is even enforced by how extensive the empire is that a lot of regiments have their own distinctive uniform and equipment by how logistical impossible could be to equip them all the same.

My man ..how I miss sniper rifle distance tags (fun fact - the tag had bullet drop after a distance so it could go further) and frags with my opponents calling 'Hax!' (to the point I got a few bans, lol)

Human rifle was cheese with its grenades for easy kills really which was why I liked the Bully - untagged or tagged, using it was a show of skill
