The one on the left is called American military style. The one on the right is Olympic style. They both work, so use whichever one feels better given the terrain.

If youre shooting right handed, the right leg should always be in parallel with the weapon, i.e you can cock your left leg out at an angle but the right always follows straight behind your body. You can cock the right leg as seen in OPs pic but your shin still needs to be in parallel with your body and the rifle. If you dont do this or have your body off at an odd angle to the target, the recoil wont be straight back into you, and thus youll have to spend a bit more time reaquiring the same target after each shot.

Left, always and forever. Recoil management is the name of the game friend. It's not so much about getting that first shot on target, as much as it is all the following shots.

NOW if we're talking about a machine gun, the right is the superior firing position simply because of the high rate of fire and recoil. Heels down with a machine gun is a recipe for disaster.

Left is the only way to accurately shoot large caliber rifles. You don't recoil straight back on the right, which may not matter with intermediate or rimfire/airgun olympic shooting but will fuck up your shot if you try it on anything large

I do a modified version of the one on the left. Basically the same but my feet are more to the left. It is a straight line through the rifle down my side to my right foot. My left foot is about 2.5ft away with both my legs full straight.
