Also forgot, it's commonly called "teacupping"

It's bad

Here is another example of proper gun control. You push into your non-trigger hand, not sit the weapon on top of your palm, which does fuck all for recoil control, I don't care if you're gripping hard or not.

that thing they do re-gripping their support hand after each shot. they don't build a proper grip so they have to replace their left hand each time the recoil knocks it off the grip. I fucking hate that shit so much.
>>
>>35113056
I probably looked like a novice the first time I shot at a civilian range unless they saw my groupings.

In the military, Infantry 4 years, they tell you to 'unload show clear'. So we'd eject the mag and hold the rack back as the RO walked by and looked inside your ejection port.

The civilian place said to 'clear your weapon and place it downrage'. So I didn't lock it back, just ejected magazine, did a brass check, and laid it on the table. That's when I learned you lock it back, then lay it on the table.

I saw people looking at me like I must be a newbie, just was my first time on a civilian range and they do things differently.
>>
>>35113056

Side bar: was in a gun store today and this gentleman was there with his son (<4 y/o) and so his sons running around and what not. Then for some reason the dad sits the son on the counter while talking to the owner which the owner was fine with (they knew eachother). The dad then basically allows his son to play with his new glock and his son literally pointed it directly at me and said pow pow and tried to pull the trigger. I walked away to another isle and hear the dad say "no (kids name) don't put your mouth on that (gun)." jesus fuck

Cup 'n' saucer grip is basically shooting with one hand. The support hand is just supporting weight. If that's your goal, then, sure, it's not "wrong". But if your goal is to shoot two hands because it allows the maximum control over the pistol, then it's plenty wrong.
>>
>>35113056
Visible unfamiliarity with guns, too gentle with guns, poor posture/weight distribution/grip/trigger control, shooting before they're ready, Weaver stance, not having the upper body strength to support the gun, holding the gun too close, holding the gun too far... the list goes on.

Posture and technique are the basic giveaways.

Nope. Most of /k/ isn't as good as you think they are. Shooting is also a very small portion of conceal carry, most people here couldn't even tell you just how fast they can clear their cover garment and get a shot off at something like a 5 inch circle at 7 yards.

/k/ is more of a gun collecting/gun enthusiast board and there isn't anything wrong with that. Actually shooting, taking classes and shooting competitively is something out of the left field for most people here.

The easiest one is the way they hold their weapon when idle. With a novice (or hollywood) shooter, It's the whole focus of their stance, versus someone who's spent hours and hours with the weapon and has a stance that will let them hold the weapon for a long time without getting tired.

I don't think the guy you wee replying too specifically had CC in mind with his comment. That video was fucking terrible. I've seen little old ladies with snub nosed .38s learning to shoot for the first time do better then that, specifically in regards to safety. I've also been to several /k/ meets and I've never seen any really unsafe or idiotic behavior from anyone. People generally know the basic fundamentals of shooting even if they are bad shots, they don't flinch like bitches or wave their guns around trying to figure out why they are getting FTFs every other trigger pull.
>>

>cup-and-saucer grip

Do you mean teacupping? Look, I know you're new to this but you really need to work on getting the vernacular right. You also have to learn that you're not the penultimate authority on shooting. Just because you don't do or know a particular style or technique doesn't automatically make it a sign of a novice. Otherwise, you'd be doing silly shit like assuming that paper patch reloaders are noobs.
>>
>>35113252
A grip style that used to be popular after one-handed shooting fell out of style. There's nothing wrong with it, other than it offends the living shit out of millenials. Not enough tacticool factor, I guess.

In teacupping, you support the bottom of your grip hand with your weak side hand. I suspect it evolved as the Weaver stance became popular.

Look at some pics of LE or Mil range training from the 50s and 60s. Even into the 70s, teacupping was how they trained. It's what came about after 1 hand shooting started to lose popularity, morphing into Weaver and isosceles-style shooting.

>Weaver stance

What could possibly be wrong with Weaver?

The only reason isosceles is popular is because the military/police use it, and they only use it because if your wearing chest protection it presents the largest frontal plate to the target which increases the chances you get hit there, whereas prior to the use of armor the one handed stance was popular under the logic that it presents a narrower and thus more difficult to shoot silhouette, Weaver lets you use both arms and have the same effect.
>>
>>35117785
That must be why I keep seeing competition pistol shooters use that stance.

Alot of shooters hold their thumbs halfway on the slide. If your gun isn't loosely assembled, jangly trash, it won't pinch you and happens so fast you don't even feel it. I shoot my cz with my forward thumb almost at the top of the slide and have never had an issue. It doesn't work for all guns. But it's not retarded at all.

Because it provides more control over the gun in every aspect. The reason LE/mil use it is because competitive shooters do, not the other way around. You'd know that if you shot any sort of action pistol in the last 20 years.
>>
>>35126071
Need stronger hands. You can also torque your hands into the sides of the grip. Ron Avery has articles on it and grip strength training on Tactical Performance Center. I think it's also called the Vogel grip.

>>
>>35134815
This. I grip high af and focus pressure at or above where the slide meets the frame. I like to think about it as controlling the barrel instead of just gripping hard in general.
>>
>>35135251
That sideways inward pressure is also how Jerry Miculek can fire a .500 S&W without his strong hand thumb wrapped around the grip. It's wicked useful.

That used to be a pretty popular grip (minus the weak thumb up) in the 60's and 70's. Custom guns would have finger grooves added to the front of the trigger guard to facilitate it.

If anything I was being generous. Getting picky over an equivalent variation on the same damn name and then turning around and trying to excuse using completely the wrong word which means something else entirely is hypocrisy of the highest order. He seeks to judge others on the basis of insignificant differences, yet seeks to be judged by so loose a standard that he says one thing and means another thing entirely, yet expects to be given the benefit of the doubt.

Competitive shooters do retarded impractical shit all the time to get better groups. Might as well start using ultra low power loads so you can land accurate headshot groupings within 4 seconds. And add a compensator to your cc because you gotta mitigate that recoil boy.
Might as well defend your home with those ergonomic .22 pistols too, you know they're good because oylmpic athletes use them.
