Snub nose .44mag
pick up a glock 17, close your eyes and bring it up to line up on a target, now open your eyes. repeat with a M&P9. Buy which ever lines up better. Fit in hand at a gun store doesn't mean much. People aim certain grip angles better than others. The glock is more like a luger and a M&P is more like a 1911 (upright). Alternatively, shoot them if you have the option and buy which ever. They're basic bitch handguns because there isn't really all that matters besides meme brand loyalty.

Canik TP9SFX.
This is essentially a competition gun, it will run you around 4-500 dollars.
The TP9SFX comes with everything you will need in a pistol, the best part is that it has the best trigger for any striker fired gun below 1000 dollars. It has adjustable backstraps and the ability to mount aftermarket sights as well as a red dot and threaded barrel.
The only thing this gun won't really do is concealed carry.
Any .22 semi auto. The Ruger Mk. IV would be a good starting point.
Yugo m57 in 7.62x25 or M70 in 9mm

Heritage Rough Rider.

No. Too expensive for a 22. Once you are properly trained on grip and follow through, you'll never use it again unless you like eating squirrel.

Yes. Cheap, 22, simple, and accustoms you to a cowboy plow grip.
