One of the best military science fiction writers of the last century. Janissaries, Footfall, the CoDominium universe... I feel that people on /k/ would appreciate knowing of his death, as his writings have undoubtably influenced many us one way or another.

He worked on Project Thor, was on the early space councils, and was a big reason the DC-X got funding. Did more military advising for the govt than most people usually think..
We also need to thank Pournelle for ballistic missile defense. He was instrumental in those projects being pushed forward.
Everyone should read The Strategy of Technology. Sill relevant today. Dunno why it is no longer required reading for various service academies.
I used to love his column in Byte. Told me about shitty hardware to avoid, even when the manufacturer was a major advertiser.
