No, because the outer jacketing of the projectile is mashed down by the barrel, it gives the rounds a faster muzzle velocity and a straighter path of flight

The projectiles are made of a deformable metal, take lead for example, but also have a core of hard metal, which have a diameter of the muzzle. Basically it is a bit like a syringe filled with water, you press a little and the water flows faster out of the tip then you are actually moving the plunger of the syringe. But generally you are right, the wear on the muzzle is much higher then a conventional weapon.
