So /k/, I've been looking into finding a good carbine for a while now, and I think the CZ-527 looks pretty good. Any thought on the rifle or possible alternatives?
Great choice. I'd say that's your best option, possibly something like a Ruger Gunsite Scout.

You don't have a lot of options for a carbine, at least in the US market.
True carbines:
>Zastava's micro mausers, which are pure shit
>CZ 527 Carbine
>Remington model 7 (pre-2003 are okay, post-2003 are a gamble)
Carbine-esque variants of full rifles:
>Savage's model 11 Scout and Hog Hunter
>Mossberg's MVP Thunder Ranch and Patrol, which have rampant QC issues
and that's about it.
>CZ 527 American
>Ruger's GSR
IMO the CZ 527 is the best option.
A little more expensive than the 527, but Ruger made an m77 in .357 with an 18.5 inch barrel.

I have one in x39 and I love it. My only gripes are the magazines (which is why I'm considering a Ruger American in x39 right now), and I find the bolt to be a little on the shitty side. It's not super smooth or quick to operate, and seems kind of cheaply made. On the whole, it's a great rifle though.

OP here, thanks for the rundown, I pretty much need to go with the 527 cause I'm broke. The I've looked into pricing, and .308 will hurt the checkbook a lot more than 7.62x39
didn't Savage make a nifty carbine up until a couple years ago ?
>>35109020
Hog Hunter 111 comes in .223 and .308
>>35109082
yeah one of those
do they still make them ?
>>35109091
Absolutely. I bought one in .308 earlier this year. Stock is cheap feeling but the rest is great.
>>35109125
wanted to get one of the scout carbines in 7.62x39 but bought some other shit instead
later on it was sold out and never made it to Europe again

Winchester 94
7.62x39 and .30-30 are pretty similar ballistically, with .30-30 having the edge.
The 94 only weighs slightly more than the 527.
Levers are faster than bolts.
Also, it's not Fudd shit because Fudds hate .30-30 now.
>>35108253
Did you get yours threaded on your own? I didn't think they made those.
>>35109141
>Levers are faster than bolts.
Harder to shoot levers while prone.
>>35108069
Mein nigger. My favorite rifle is my CZ 527. I put on a leather Rhodie sling as well. Highly recommended.
>>35109141
Fudds hate .30-30 now?
>>35108253
>>35109825
Only problem I've read is that the stock is prone to cracking or chipping. Any problems with that so far?
>>35109176
Ya if your handicapped and can't lean the rifle.
>>35108114
>True carbine, carbine-esque rifle
You have a weird ass definition for "carbine", anon.
>>35109009
>Worried about money
I suggest .223, of which the cheapest rifles that aren't poverty spec boltguns are AR's. Even brass isn't that expensive unless you go for match or whatever. 7.62x39 is also alright, but the cheap stuff is steel cased garbage designed for AK's.
If you're in a ban state the Mini-14/30 are good options, though the latter has trouble with steel cased ammo. If you're specifically looking for bolt actions, again, most manufacturers make a .223 and a fair number of them make a 7.62x39, the two most quality ones with an appropriate action being the CZ-527 or Howa Mini.

>7.62x39 is also alright, but the cheap stuff is steel cased garbage designed for AK's
The CZ527 is specifically made to shoot steel case hard primer "garbage". The bore is speced out to Russian/soviet specifications (.311) and will shoot American made 7.62 (.308) like shit.
>>35109941
Nada.
>>35108069
I have a 20inch Howa 1500 Whitetail in .308 from Big 5. I've never had a problem with it, plus it's pretty accurate out of the box.
>>35111365
Well I meant as far as accuracy goes, you're not getting sub moa with Tula unless you've been blessed by the Gods.
>American manufacturers loading x39 with .308 bullets
Assholes, the lot of them. They should burn in hell.
>>35112524
I also almost exclusively shoot the cheapest steel case I can find, so it doesn't seem to have a problem with steel.
>>35108069
I have had 2 of them. Great Guns, Accurate, the set Trigger is Tits, and backup iron sights to boot. Buy it, you won't be sorry
>>35108069
Got one of these for 650 barely used. Has a few mags and some scope rings for it. Anyone know of a good scope for it?
>>35108069
Consider a scout rifle like Ruger's gunsite scout.
>>35109913
Probably thinks Fudd is any casual gun owner with a king ranch F150.
>>35109941
My CZ in 458 Lott didn't crack the stock and I hotrodded the fuck outta the handloads. I think you'll be fine. You could bed it in the stock if you're really worried, but just check the lugs and that it's properly seated and you should be fine.
