How are the Chinese reviews of it? They may eat up whatever shit Hollywood serves them but at least they trashed whatever shit Jackie Chan made over there so I can only assume they have some taste when it comes to local productions.

This movie is seemed to be aimed not at general audiences, but military fans only, who are usually very picky and autistic (China has a huge military enthusiast fanbase).

And they are actually pretty positive this time, mostly because they feel that the directors and PLA propaganda department has finally learned from their mistakes of earlier Top Gun-styled movies.

As in, this time actually using real planes and spending more money on research and better CGI, whilst doing less melodrama and romance side-stories.

For example, the planes they fly and the pilots actually belong to some frontline brigade of the East China Sea task force who buzz US and Japanese surveillance planes all the time.
