Not unless you really want a rifle in that configuration and you can't get one cheaper, no. They go for about half in the US.

It's not a bad rifle at all, Mausers never are, but the barrel is a bit short and the stock is a bit heavy. You can find them with longer barrels and synthetic stocks but still, it doesn't have much over a standard hunting rifle except iron sights and a detachable mag.

Getting a gunsmith to put iron sights of your choice on a rifle might be a better option. If I had known that I wouldn't have bought a mossberg mvp

Look at Howa rifles. I have one in .308 and it's great. They don't come stock with a detachable mag but you can get kits to convert them to a 10 round detachable box.

No iron sights though. I love my irons on my .22, wish I had them on my larger calibre guns.

16.5 is long enough for .308. it's not ideal of course, but it's enough to burn the powder and you don't really see velocity drop much until you go less than that. And the synthetic stock is only like .2 pounds lighter

I thought the exact same thing until I read op was looking for a detachable box rifle with iron sights. You can modify either rifle to get there (at least here in the states) but it would probably be more expensive to do so
