I'm moving to San Diego in a week and I can't find a good answer about the legality of my .22 H&R "Sportsman" 12-Shot revolver. I have heard about certain stores selling these in California, but it obviously exceeds 10 round capacity. Halp?

OP seems like a cool guy, don't go to school tomorrow.
Also, this is the best answer I've found but it's mixed:

I did. And the forum answers have been mixed.

Were you planning on registering it?
>>35102366
Yes. Didn't think that was optional.
>>35102372
It's not technically...

???
!!!

Let's just say if you didn't they would have no way of knowing.
Law has an exception for .22 rifles with tube mags. Revolver cylinder isn't a tube mag. Tentatively I'd say it's illegal but anyone looking at it would assume it's a 9 shot.
In fact, before you move trade it for a 9 shot. Problem solved.

This is the response I got on calguns:

But if I get pulled over and they find it, they're not going to look to see if it's registered?
>>35102664
Let's just say don't fucking register it and don't fucking carry it either. It will be safe in your safe.
Laws are more like guidelines... Especially in your particular case.
>>35102372
Sure it is. You don't do it. Tada.
Registration is for confiscation, clearly illegal due to Federal law against such things.

any person in this state who possesses any large-capacity magazine, regardless of the date the magazine was acquired, is guilty of an infraction punishable by a fine not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100) per large-capacity magazine, or is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100) per large-capacity magazine, by imprisonment in a county jail not to exceed one year, or by both that fine and imprisonment.
tl;dr it only covers MAGAZINES over ten rounds, not guns that have a >10rd capacity that are not magazine fed

Thanks, that's what others have told me.

I dont know what kind of shitbag a cop/da would have to be to try to prosecute you for this. I can only imagine it would be a charge tacked on to something else (drug possession etc.). I am in cali and as long as it isnt LA or SF I dont think most cops would even bat an eye at an old rimfire revolver that is over 10 rounds.

He's actually dead on the money, CA has a very specific definition of ammunition feeding device and cylinders do not meet that definition.
