Faster artillery not tied to rail transport.
What caused the stalemate was that you could pull your guns back and bombard the enemy's new position faster than he could move his guns up to bombard your position.
So, when you could hitch a gun to a truck and advance at 30 mph, you could continue to prosecute a pursuit past the enemy's prepared fallback positions.

The fact that trench warfare sucked so much that people created tactics specifically to avoid it
Didn't the Iran-Iraq war have trench warfare?
On that note, what's a good book on that topic?
That ping noise old rifles would make when the magazine ejected

It still happens when people don't have their shit together well enough to conduct a combined arms offensive.
See: Iran-Iraq War, Ethiopia-Eritrea War

Whats the tactical disadvantage to not trenching in that case?
Spanish flu.
>>35101675
Radio killed trench warfare allowing coordination between infantry, tanks, aircraft and supporting artillery.
>>35103623

>>35103639

>>35101675
People stopped wanting to dig trenches, so the top brass made science their bitch and came up with much more efficient ways of killing, i.e. armored vehicles, planes, drones, etc.
>>35101675
the banning of gas and the realization that there is lots of natural cover in the world
so basically, canadians did it
>>35101675
Tanks and shit that made trench warfare something to very much avoid.
>>35103639
Not him, but making cover from enemy fire is a reason

Lack of trenches.
You see, the trench, once a native feature to the European continent, had become harder and harder to find as time passed on.
Eventually, people decided to go to war without them.

Tanks. It allowed for a tactical breakthrough to turn into a strategic breakthrough.
People got tired of digging trenches, so they stopped doing it.
>>35101675
The ability to break through trenches. This doesn't mean trenches aren't still dug though. Defensive fortifications are still used, they simply aren't the insurmountable obstacle they were in WW1.
>>35101713
Then why is there still trench warfare in the ukraine
