I've had the exact same experience, not entirely sure what causes it but once grit gets into the action, the bolt carrier doesn't want to go all the way home. It stops just slightly out of battery. Sometimes you can palm it and force it into battery but it makes me uneasy.

Well nobody can shout monkey model now.

Inrange would a lot more interesting if they discussed the logic behind the design.
>>
>>35097059
if you look at the slow motion sections of the video it almost looks like the forward motion of the charging handle catches mud falling off the exterior of the rifle and funnels it into the action. if you dump muck on top of the magazine or the bolt face the firing cycle is going to put fouling exactly where they were having problems with it.
i bet if they shook the loose mud off they would get a much better result, at least until they got to the dust cover open section. at which point i can only imagine it would completely fuck the fcg assuming the bolt could even cycle with that much crud on around the hammer.
>>
>>35097126
It'd be more interesting if they understood how to work the design

I'm impressed though, it shows he actually gives a damn. The fitment would probably be good enough on the US handguards but he wants to make sure to get the fitment just right on the original handguards. He's a perfectionist.

I'm jealous of his position. He has more work than he knows what to do with, he is revered and respected in the community, and he presumably spends all day building AK kits. And since he is a preferred builder he probably has some really unique stuff come through his shop.

AK kit building won't last forever but right now he is living the dream

most of ours are along the road to the ski resorts, lol
there are also tons of pot shops out on the peninsula. i can't believe anyone would come from out of state to be cold on our beaches or that weekenders manage to support them but they're still there. i guess it's not like there is anything else to do outside of hunting/fishing/foraging seasons though.

>>35097566
at 2 cents a round, fuck that shit.
>is 7n6 really that much better than standard ammo?
i don't really think so, at least not in regards to target shooting. as long as whatever you're shooting doesn't keyhole and it lines up reasonably well with the sight increments you should be good. it's probably marginally higher quality but i don't think you'd ever notice the difference unless you were specifically testing it or something just shoots exceptionally poorly out of your particular rifle for whatever reason.
while it's worth noting i've never shot commercial shit at steel 7n6 will go through a fuck lot of mild steel like it's not even there. but so will m193 for that matter.
fwiw in 7 or so crates of 7n6 i only experienced a few FTFs. the shit is meant to last forever in storage and hold up to field conditions.

>good defensive AK ammo
soft point, pointed soft point, hollow point, any hunting or otherwise expanding offerings you can get to reliably feed would all be more ideal than ball but it's a rifle, mind your background etc.

if ammo characteristics are your primary concern after the firearm cost you could always go 300blk pistol, i mean the cartridge was literally designed to replicate 7.62x39. but honestly modern .223/5.56 bullets (read: not military ball) will ruin people/game at realistic shooting distances for a pistol.
>>

300blk is stupid over priced. Id rather cheap ak or AR ammo. I guess the thing I like about AK ammo is that out of a 10" barrel, even FMJ ammo has good terminal ballistics and that I think I could trust an AK to take down a black bear if I had too innawood way more then an AR.

Its such a hard choice though because I have plenty of AR mags already.

Nothing wrong with that if that's the case, IMO. I've got purple Lancer L5s for my AR for the same reason.

No.

When I replaced the rear trunnion on my 5.45 Saiga I screwed it in rather than rivet. I've got ~1500 rounds through it since then and everything is absolutely rock solid still. Even after being mortared hard enough on the stock to damage my folding mechanism.

Use good hardware, don't cross thread your shit, torque everything well, and use a proper threadlocker. Rocksett or an appropriate "permanent" loctite.

I get the point of these drills. But after watching a ton of Ukraine v. Russian war vids, This kind of "of fuck I just spawned in front of a camp of bad guys and there is no time to find cover" stuff is pretty uncommon. If you found yourself in that situation you're probably gonna die anyway, even if you do a reload in 0.25 seconds. It's always better to reload behind cover and at that point you can usually take your time.

aye, i agree. there is a lot of trench warfare in that conflict though and it's compounded by the fact that the russians are at a technological advantage, especially with imaging and communication

if you were raiding a compound or doing any kind of CQB and were in immediate danger it would make sense to employ an emergency reload. not all of the time.

they don't deal with the flex and associated forces that are inherent in the design as well as rivets. look at a slow motion video of an AK firing and you should know everything you need to about why threaded fasteners are less than ideal even if you use locking nuts/washers/compound as >>35098317 stated.

It's a perfectly capable rifle in it's stock form, but if you want something "authentic" you're better off skipping it. After buying all the conversion parts, tools, paying for smithing, etc you'll have just as much in it if not more anyway.

Is the century arms AK shit? It seems to be on the inexpensive side, and I don't have a lot of money to drop.

Would this be an acceptable first time purchase for someone who has shot a few, but owns no guns?
>>
>>35100028
it's a hungarian parts kit made by century, so it's gonna be shoddy. Decently cheap price though

it's super hit or miss with century, would probably serve well as a range toy, wouldn't count my life on it though. Only century guns i've ever seen explode were the 74's they used to put out. I'd save for a parts kit build by a reputable builder or an npap df if u want an underfolder

I get the feeling people take these mud tests way more seriously than Ian and Karl intended, which explains why they're successful videos. To them, they're just having fun out in the desert with rifles making videos with a friend and the internet has taken them and turned them into something vitriolic and not at all what they were supposed to be.

There's also something inherently jingoistic about people that suck stoner's dick so hard that they go out of their way to get into internet comment fights about which rifle is better. At which point I can't help but giggle about the fact that by this metric, the Garand is a giant steaming worthless pile of shit since it didn't even get off round one.

he was thinking of coming back assuming he even had ms for real to begin with.
ms is bascially the "lol i don't think youre depress but i dont want to dig deeper" diagnosis. even if you have multiple corroborating brain scans that happened to occur during attacks it's so up in the air you don't even know for sure until autopsy, at which point it's "there's shit fucked up here but no real reason we can find so it much be ms lol".

people with ms tend to do better the more active they are. being all 'ms is tribble' is sure fire kill. whether he comes back or not good to him to live his life.

Always with vague and esoteric motivation encouraged by a bunch of retards commenting saying how WOKE he is. Now he goes radio silent and removes all his content because he's been TOTALLY BLACKBAGGED DUDE. But what was really weird was how much effort he was putting into the editing of his cryptic Instagram videos. Maybe I'm just intimidated by him because I could never figure him out. He seemed to be very skeptical of Trump but he also spent a ton of time making a John Wick edit with Trump's face tracked over Wick and news media logos tracked over the bad guys. It was well done and took a lot of work and I don't think he posted it anywhere but Instagram.

I figure this or the gunsmithing general would be a good place to ask.
How difficult would it be to build a Galil in 7.62 NEATO from one of the 5.56 kits? Could I use the 5.56 bolt carrier if I lengthened the piston and made room for a beefier bolt? I figure most of the other differences would just be part of the receiver. Maybe I'd get fucked on the gas block forcing me to go with a pencil barrel.
Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

Whores lie.

The chances are fairly slim a soldier is going to fall in deep mud, rifle malfunctions at critical time, it affecting a battle. It's hilarious people fall for these bait videos. Niggas they were ramping up for WW3, sealing the safety for mud was the least of their concerns. All the design sacrifices the AR makes for an extra MOA of accuracy and this bygone notion of the "individual marksmen" is kind of laughable in itself.
>>
>>35104881
I know, it's just that I thought that sub wouldn't be as bad but apparently not. Out of the 50+ comments, all but three of the woman posters are advocating lying or saying that it's "creepy" or "beta" to even ask or want to know.

All women are whores.
Those that say they aren't, are lying and thus whores.

Less of this, more AKs
>>

Dammit, so stay away from it? Any good AK74's out there that isnt shit? And would the Y/I stamping or proper selector markings affect the weapon at all in terms of functionality?
>>
>>35104949
You're an idiot. You need to stop dating girls and date women.
I only know 1 woman that's been with more partners than me. None that I've been with have lied. They have no reason too.
>>
>>35104951
>Dammit, so stay away from it? Any good AK74's out there that isnt shit?
Yeah, parts kit or second hand SLR-104FR or SGL31
>And would the Y/I stamping or proper selector markings affect the weapon at all in terms of functionality?
They don't, which is why I would suggest an SLR-104FR or SGL31, it's just that with a nice kit like an Izzy 88 AK-74 it's a waste of a good kit.
>>
>>35104949
I wouldn't say all. It's just that society has given both men and women a lot more freedom to do what feels good and shames old silly things like dedication, or makes them difficult to follow through on, like the instability of work and long term employment. Want a job you're going to work the rest of your life? Lol nope, you "entitled" millennial shit. Want to buy a house that you'll die in and pass onto your kids? Lol nope, you "entitled" millennial shit. Want a wife and a big happy huwhite family? Lol nope, you "entitled" millennial shit.
>>
>>35104980
Aren't both of those AK's discontinued though? I was looking for a SLR-104FR but couldn't find any. I found some on auction websites though
>>
>>35104988
Also
>inb4 hurr you can do that, I did it or am doing it
The point isn't that it's impossible, it's that every few years it becomes more and more difficult for normal people to just have a normal, happy, and stable life.
>>
>>35104991
Yeah, they are discontinued but there are no current production AK-74's that aren't poorly executed parts kit builds so it's either you get one done right, which will run you $1500+ once done... or you get a second hand of the two.
>>
>>35105005
Well fuck me, I thought that izzy build would be my best chance at getting a good 74. Well I might get one later then. I'll just buy an ar like everyone else
>>
>>35105012
You can find SLR-104FR's all day on Armslist for about the same price. You can also find them on Gunbroker for decent once in a while. I wouldn't be afraid of going the parts it build route because at this point, they're not getting any cheaper. Get a decent parts kit, then a barrel, then a receiver like a Childers, then the 922r stuff (lol), and then ship it off to a builder. That extra $400-$700 isn't that bad when it's spread out over six months or more.

>>35104988
There's a lot of truth in this. It's all about instant gratification anymore, and less long term satisfaction.
For anything, including relationships unfortunately.
>>35104994
Yep, it's just getting more and more difficult to have a "normal" life, without a ton of bullshit browbeating you at every turn.

Can you guys post AKs if we're going to wax poetic on this subject?
>>
>>35105025
>>35105012
Personally I'd suggest this order:
http://www.k-var.com/shop/AK-176B.html
and
https://rguns.net/shop/bulgarian-ak74-parts-kit-wood-stock/
And then
http://www.childersguns.com/Receivers/CG2-Polish-74-Receiver
With all the proper markings. Then ship it off to JBI or someone else and realize you'll be waiting a few months at the minimum to get it back. Still a great deal though, you'll be getting a quality rifle that you won't regret a thing. It's just a game of patience and knowing when to order what.
>>
>>35105031
>>35105012
Although I'd go parts kit before barrel but they're both cheap enough that I wouldn't worry about it.

We're all just being made into perfect little consumers. A real "nation" of immigrants with no roots, culture, or people to anchor into to. A soulless history-less mass of peoples from all over the globe buying into a coca cola America. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about, it's why the (((banks))) and (((big business))) side with (((academia))) and leftists. It's why they've worked so hard to destroy the homogeneity of the West.

It's also the perfect excuse for an every growing government. The "internal" conflict this sows and the last bits of conflicting interest of all these groups clashing against each other and muddied into a beige colored human paste, a country of coffee colored consumers. It won't be ending any time soon. You can see this in the "environmental" movement, when the best thing for the environment is fewer people and buying things local, the same people advocate for mass immigration and "greener" forms of globalism like Solar or Wind. Solar and wind of course being reliant on rare earths which destroy and contaminate the soil from which they're extracted for millennia.

If you could manage a legit aircraft metal locknut for the screw to mate with, nothing IRL but that nut should be easy to replace.

Otherwise, forget it. Lockwashers are shit, which is why they are very rare on aircraft. Loctite is too brittle for use on screws which are used as pivots.

Possibly, but it'd be kind of a pain. You could use a x39 bolt with the face opened up, and you'd have to lengthen the magazine well, move back the triggerguard, move back the ejector, as well as some other stuff. The gas block is ak47 (milled) diameter, which is the same diameter found on the zastava m77, so not really a pencil barrel.

AK MOE works but you could get an rk-3 and not deal with buying an uglier grip that will feel about the same as the original

Welp the other direction I want to go is to sell the dust cover and go with a traditional cover+RPK sight. The issue is that like I said before, it came with the rifle and the spring is designed for the dog leg rail. Any suggestions on a good spring to swap it out with with if I choose to go that direction?
