Why not just incorporate this concept into Eugene Stoner and/or Mikhail Kalashnikov's designs? Sig is already coming out with shitloads of designs for internal upper buffer tube, gas piston billets to just slap on any ol m16/ ar15 lowers and what not. Also, look at the AR-57. I'm sure the chinks and slavaboos are cooking up something too. The best technology is always backwards compatible

That cant be yet judged with any certainty. The Koreans never really saw combat in Afghanistan and while the Chinese have had a favorable response to the ZH05 in use in anti-piracy operations, that could be a result of skewed perceptions, since prior to that they only had access to the QLG91 (low-charge caseless 35mm m203 copy) and Type 87 (nearly 30lb beltfed launcher). The only party that has met definitive success is the American, who retained the semi auto and beefed it to 25mm, though that project ran into its own problems.

The OICW is a completely outdated concept, from back when the military wanted everything fused together at all costs. Nowadays they want modularity, each component has to be able to be used individually and added to each other depending on the situation's need in order to save weight.
Only South Korea and China actually went through with this, and notice how they made the grenade launcher bolt action, and China even made it single shot, in order to reduce bulk, weight and cost. Even then that shit is bulky and heavy as fuck and no more efficient than some rifle with a grenade launcher.

China's attempt is not bad.

Fully loaded (30 round mag and one single grenade in chamber) its weight is still just 5kg, which is manageable.

Sure, single-shot grenade bolt-action launchers are not really the epitome of firepower and one may say that 40mm airburst would be appropriate, but the added bonus of having a high velocity airburst grenade with flat trajectory even at longer distances should not be underestimated in the tactical aspect.
