Hey /k. I'm moving to a city of rather questionable safety soon and I'm wondering what good, cheap, reliable pistol's I could look at getting? Preferably not a Hi point.

Police trade in Glocks or Springfield XD's
Taurus PT111
Taurus 605
Makarov
M&P Shield
Bersa Thunder (probably not the best desu)
Those SCCY things

Any of those would be serviceable. I'd mainly recommend the police trade ins or the 605 though.

Buy a Canik TP9, be sure to check out all the models and get what's right for you. If you can scrape together about 400~ you can get a TP9SFX which would last you forever really, it's the best striker fired pistol straight out of the box that you can buy.
>>
>>35095105
If you can save up 30 more dollars theres USP40s for 385

>>
>>35094531
Go with a tarus revolver, both the 85 and 605 are great guns that I've used with no problems.
I'm thinking about getting a Tarus 709slim. IDK,
Is the 709 a decent gun? I always feel like modern handguns are going to fail when I need them most.

>willfully moves to unsavory city
>wants good, cheap, and reliable in a package under $350
>eliminates the champion of this tier right off the bat
>>
>>35094531
Those SCCY 9mm pistols are cheap, simple and rugged. From what Ive heard they are pretty decent for less than 300 dollars.
Ive been thinking of getting one myself for the just of it.
>>
>>35095438
Not so much willfully, more I have no better options then going back to New Orleans. Last time I lived there I had a string of issues, so this time I want some protection.
>>
>>35095589
Well i wouldn't recommend a SCCY any new shooters, the ones I've used had mosin tier triggers
>>
>>35094665
wtf is wrong with it at this price? Also I really want this but in 9mm
>>
>>35094600
You could find an extremely decent Makarov or Tokarev for that price, but those things excel at being little tanks and that's about it. You could also find trade-in Glocks, RIA revolvers, used Springfields, and maybe even older Smith and Wesson 442s
>>
>>35094600
Forgot to mention, don't underestimate EAA CZ75 clones, they are claimed to be very functioning, durable handguns. Very cheap as well
>>
>>35095124
I bought a trade in usp and it shitout before 50 rounds. Hk durability is a meme
>>
>>35099990
>I bought a gun used and abused by cops

>something broke

>>
>>35100015
Bbbbbbbbuuuuuuut they the most reliable pistol ever made
>>
>>35100060
With proper care and maintenance
>>
>>35100070
>With proper care and maintenance
Every gun should be reliable with proper care and maintenance. If a manufacturer wants to brag about their reliability, the product should go above and beyond the competition by remaining reliable even without proper care and maintenance.
>>
>>35100188
It's not a good paper bag if it lets the smell of dogshit through when lit on fire and stomped on.
>>
>>35094703
I've got a compact Springfield XD that I'm pretty happy with. You should go to a range that rents firearms and try a few to find out what fits your hand and you are comfortable with.
>>
>>35100203
If bag brags about being superior, it should be flame resistant and sealed in such a way that the shit doesn't easily break out.
>>
>>35094531

Go to a pawn shop and buy a .38 special double action revolver. Ruger, Colt or Smith and Wesson.

They're a ton of them out there so they can be had affordably; but they're much more dependable than a cheapo pistol.
>>
>>35100188
So, the guns have magical regenerative properties and the springs don't wear with use? HMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Hmmmmm. Hm.
>>
>>35100496
You tell me. Hi Points do great with zero maintenance.
>>
>>35099864
Police trade ins. Make sure to check my other links, I tried to get a quality pistol in each of the major chamberings.
>>
>>35101518

>>
>>35101518
How can you break what is already broken?
>>
>>35094531
Hipoint is hard to carry

There's a list of cheap guns for $200 new, even more if you buy used
If you can't find one, just go to GunBroker and have a local gun shop ffl to transfer it
>>
>>35101585
The police trade in P226 are all german frames with stamped steel slides. The DAK trigger is also less desireable and the guns likely require mainspring and recoil spring replacements, a cleaning, and a lubing. Caliber conversion kits are also $400. Also only one mag and no case/lock.

With all that said I still have the urge to get this gun since it's so cheap. That way I won't care if it's ever lost or confiscated. On the other hand I *should care if it's lost or confiscated.
>>
>>35094703
>2 Taurus options
Looking at the PT92 myself, prefer the frame safety/decocker, and holy fuck less than half the price new.
>>
>>35100188
>If a manufacturer wants to brag about their reliability, the product should go above and beyond the competition by remaining reliable even without proper care and maintenance.
You literally ask the impossible. All mechanical systems require care and maintenance.
>>
>>35094531
Police trade-ins are your friend.
>>
>>35102042
If you want a beat up piece of shit with a 10lb trigger and dead night sights.
>>
>>35099477
It's the one flaw of an otherwise phenomenal budget pistol, that Lord of the Rings Extended Cut length trigger reset. They fix that, it would be the absolute best subcompact pistol in its price range, hands down. 10 rounds of 9mm in a miniscule package, no fiddly safety, and impressive reliability for sub 300 MSRP. I still regret selling mine, but I was so hard up for cash.
>>
I was hoping to find a thread like this. I'm looking for a handgun to carry as well, preferably under $500 if possible.
>>
>>35100188
Can't you just send it in and get it fixed under warranty?
>>
>>35103439
500 is a very flexible budget for a carry gun. At that point you've got all the usual suspects available to you. Nothing wrong with a subcompact or compact Glock, especially if you want aftermarket support. Personally I'd look at Beretta's Px4 compact with the fancy rotary barrel and maybe a subcompact SIG like the 250 or 320.
>>
>>35103439
Re-read this thread and realize some of the best replies have already been posted.

Is there like a chart or something? I'm not him but I'm also in the market for my first ever gun and I have no idea. Was thinking Glock but there are a ton. Any /k/ meme charts?

I'm just going with the usual answer of Glock, and a few guns I've carried that I like. Only real downsides to the Px4 are that even as a subcompact it's not very conceal friendly and magazines are too pricey for what they are, but it's accurate and runs very reliably, and honestly I'm partial to the decocker/safety.
>>
>>35101784
I have the PT92. I haven't fired it much (only about 500 rounds) but it seems to be really reliable for a Taurus.

It's a fucking massive gun though, and you'd be hard pressed to find a way to carry it.
>>
>>35103520
Go to a range with rental Glocks and try a few out. The G19 is a pretty safe, middle of the road 9mm pistol, the G26 is a smaller version of that. If you want more info for that brand as a first time buyer:

Thanks mate, I'll do my best to follow these steps. At least once I convince my family I require my own, personal weapon that I have unrestricted access to at all times. If I can do that.

Sub-350 pistols I've bought or shot:
>Norinco 213, 9mm, $200
Like: single-stack 9mm with nice aesthetic Gun runs like a dream. Half-cock safety is easy to engage and disengage consciously, conceals smoothly.
No like: Single action with no decocker isn't ideal for CC, relatively low capacity, US mandated external safety is literally useless.

>SCCY CPX-2, 9mm, $160
Like: 10 round capacity, very compact, little felt recoil, fairly cheap spare mags, easy take down, shoots straighter than I can.
No Like: long, long, long trigger reset. Just take your finger up off the trigger before pulling again if you don't want to short stroke it.

>Glock 26, 9mm, $350 (per owner)
Like: Good sights, easy to get spare magazines, decent trigger, reliable and consistent.
No like: noticeably high bore axis, more felt recoil than comparable pistols, personally can't stand the grip angle which is why I still don't own one. I just hate the way it hits my hand.

>Beretta Px4 Storm, .45 ACP, $280
Like: illuminated sights, extremely manageable recoil in .45, decocker/safety combo with DA/SA trigger, great trigger, underbarrel rail, comfortable to hold
No like: first gen finish is prone to flaking, heavy, hard to conceal, mags are too expensive.

>SIG Sauer P250, .45 ACP, $280
Like: Size is manageable, finish holds up well, trigger is excellent, accurate and easy to maintain, probably drop safe, newer model has standard rail
No like: Aftermarket is dead as a doornail, first gen had curved rail, XChange platform no longer supported by SIG.

Any opinions on the P30L?

How do the P220, P250, and P320 stack up against the P226?
>>
>>35103551
Its easy to conceal a px4 you lying faggot
>>
>>35094600
Ruger p-series for a tanky, full-size 9mm
Ruger Security Six is you want a cheap, solid wheelgun
Beretta 92 trade-in, one that's beat up enough can be had for ~$300, nice spaghettinigger gun
Bulgarian Makarov straight outta surplus'll be ~275 shipped, it'll conceal fairly well and taking it apart and cleaning it will be a great way to familiarize yourself with the firearm.

desu I just want to look cool while shooting pieces of paper down the range. I was considering getting a holo sight, extended mag, and zero reset trigger in a desert eagle.
