What is the best calibre and why is it 7.62x51mm?
>>
Because it costs a Kennedy a pull
>>

Nope, it's .577/450 Martini-Henry
>>
>>35086123
There great. I'm kinda sad that Turkey is the only country that has developed a new infantry rifle chambered in 7.62x51

If you have a battle rifle you have a weapon capable of killing every single animal on the planet and Swiss cheese cars like they were nothing.

Could probably even stop a terminator

They're a challenge to shoot. My 556 hits whatever I point at at whatever range with no difficulty follow ups *yawn* my battle rifle takes skill to tame.

Its also my hd weapon and I trust it ccompletely. If degenerates get into my house I may leave in an ambulance but they're leaving in a hearse for a closed casket funeral.

So wait is it a FAL thread or a 7.62x51 battle rifle thread...

(also who the fuck are you nice trip)

What's the twist rate for an FAL? Ever think about a muzzle brake to reduce recoil?
>>
>>35086398
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=FN+FAL+barrel+twist+rate

There are a few different muzzle devices... pronged, ventilated, solid... they each have their design and reason for a purpose. If you just want it to be cool or whatever get literally any 762nato muzzle device and go nuts. It's going to look stupid as fuck but, go for it.

when I went looking for a battle rifle I was dead set on a DSA or PTR then i stumbled upon a saiga 308 at my LGS and it suited my needs perfectly. And I've been able to squeeze some good accuracy out of it and it's 16in barrel.

I could put a pistol grip on it but the after market stock I put on it is perfect for my hand.
>>
>>35086433
1 in 10 is ideal for 178gr+ some have 1 in 12 and 180gr is about the limit for those.
A heavier grain has better momentum and wounding potential. But I've seen large grizz taken with 150gr. So I buy that because it's cheap.

Its just for recoil reduction like I said and if it could be vented in a way that doesn't kick up a giant dust cloud when I'm prone that'd be cool too.

>'pls can i not have a dust cloud when I shoot?'
... Yeah, nah. And if the recoil is that bad you need to work on your grip and stance when shooting because it is more than manageable enough for 80 pound child soldiers.

A good tip for shooting in the sand is to bring a waterbottle to spray around you to add a bit of mass to it and hopefully keep it down.

Another way is pic related; bring a tarp with you and put the beginning of the action and majority of the muzzle report over the tarp itself.

Got question for you gun nutts, is the AK ammo the same as 308 winchester. Could you shoot 308 win in a AK 47?

You can also use 308 winchester but it's more expensive and usually higher pressure.

>>
>>35086490
The recoil is near negligible for me after putting so many rounds down range. But it's still not zero. And I've got some timed competition coming up so I'm going to get one and hopefully have marginally better follow ups. You wouldn't put on a muzzle brake? Your 308 doesn't recoil in the slightest?

Kek Turk roach using wrong caliber in battle

Its 5.56 to maim u dumb cunts
>>
>>35086539
Obviously it does but part of being an experienced shooter is mitigating it and dealing with it properly. I absorb it at my lower abdomen and hips instead of shoulders; keeping my aim fairly consistent.
Not to say the shoulders don't do their part but you might not be leaning into it enough.
I have the same stance shooting battle rifles when I shoot even bolt rifles like mausers or nagants or arisakas or whatever.

Everyone is different and has different physiology, try blading your stance more, less, resting the rifle higher or lower in your wield...

>I have so many rounds down range
>still not zero
W-what?...
>You wouldn't put a muzzle brake?
If it's really an issue https://www.dsarms.com/c-820-flashiders-and-muzzle-brakes.aspx
Look for a compensator or dissipator. Spend what you want but I think you will be unimpressed and that dust cloud will surely be there still since you are shooting a gun.
>>
>>35086552

I run garbage 308. cheapest I can find. Found a handful of 308 cartridges in the dumpster? I'll buy em. I'm between gf's right now so I've filled up my free time with shooting. And all the money that isn't spent on a girl is going right into 308 ammo. I haven't had bad luck yet but I've gotten some shit that looks like it came out of 'nam. it came in linked ammo belt still had to pull each round but it shot fine.
>>
>>35086584
I guess I've never had issues with my FAL, I was shooting that shit ammo through my bolt action and blew out a couple primers.

I really don't have an issue with recoil I've been shooting this rifle for a few years. I've never considered a muzzle brake before because I've never needed one really. But now I'm going to compete in a local event kinda like 2g acm but not as physical and I'm looking for an edge. But good tips for beginners or others who don't get to the range that often
>>
>>35086606
Nah it's a PTR GI R. Id like an FAL too recoil is better I hear. Plus gas piston rifles are more familiar to me ergo easier to strip and clean. Roller delayed has a weird balance to its recoil impulse. It took time to get used to. It still eats all the terrible ammo I feed it. Which is kinda the opposite of what I hear from other PTR guys.
>>
>>35086626
Again you are going to have to search around and read a ton of reviews if you want to find that muzzle device that best fits your purpose. Utility over appearance.

>>
>>35086412
>>35086490
>>35086561
Different anon. I want a muzzle brake that doesn't increase the concussion. I don't care how bad the recoil is. Basically it'd be there to look pretty and cover the threads. What do you recommend?
>>
>>35086682
Probably the stock prong muzzle device. But realize sometimes even the best designed mitigation can result in the action(which is happening closer to your face) being more violent. I can't point you in the right direction but I'm sure with a few minutes of checking out user reviews on most devices you can figured out what is the best for yourself.
>>
>>35086567
Is point them to the fact that these guns are out there in large numbers and that the US hasn't descended into a gun violence hell hole. You would think the north Hollywood shootout would happen all the time but it doesn't.

Yes a battle rifle has great killing potential but it's near always owned by someone who respects the lethality of firearms, understands the gravity of using it to defend themselves, and is diligent about safety.
They're cool to own but they're not a toy. Which is what they think we think they are.
>>
>>35086349

>>35086488

He was trying to chamber 308 in 7.62x39 there buddy. You got it mixed up. An Ak might just do it too, won't chamber but might be able to strike the firing pin still
>>
>>35086830
Oh you're right. But are also right in part2, there is no way in fuck that's even going to chamber with the ability to be struck to fire.
>>

R8 my battle rifle. (Its century shit)
>>
>>35087025
May be century shit, but if it works it works. Not every one who got one got a paperweight. Jealous of the wood, they pop up from time to time (usually when I'm broke) and I have yet to seize them and cram them onto my PTR. One of these days though...
Those centuries don't have a rear drum sight right? What do they have instead?

I've had it less than a month so I haven't tried a major selection of ammo. I've used Winchester brass case so far with no problems at all
>>

Ah,so. To be fair I have never used the drum since my PTR comes with a tinny optic rail built in but it spins real neato(NATO).
>>
>>35087090
Winchester white box? Because if it eats that I bet I would have a wide range of cheap ammo. I've gotten some dirty questionable ammo from the white box. You get what you pay for.
